I visualise May sitting with Merkel and Macron, drinking scotch and comparing notes on what they have got on Trump and who gets to unleash it first.....

originalbiglymavis · 25/05/2017 18:53

Plotting practical jokes would be my guess.

PerkingFaintly · 25/05/2017 18:54

OK, I can see why the Twitterers referred to have missed the point. Because some of the US press is seriously dodging the issues re the Manchester leaks.

This is the Daily Beast:
"Crime-scene photos showing blood from the victims of the attack were published in The New York Times, enraging British authorities. The name of the suspected bomber, Salman Abedi, had already been given to the U.S. media, while the British press remained in the dark."
www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2017/05/25/uk-cuts-off-us-from-manchester-attack-intel-over-leaks?via=desktop&source=copyurl

And the NYT original statement starts:
"The images and information presented were neither graphic nor disrespectful of victims, and consistent with the common line of reporting on weapons used in horrific crimes
and doesn't get any better.

www.nytimes.com/2017/05/25/world/europe/trump-may-leaks-manchester.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=first-column-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=0

Not exactly making clear that the issue is that the NYT published the name of the bomber in the middle of operations. Followed by forensic images.

The NYT article I've linked does have a brief nod to why it was such a shit thing to do, in a paragraph citing the National Police Chiefs’ Council and one more brief comment further down. But otherwise it's long article of apologia and deflection onto personal distress.

Trump denied he supported National Front's Le Pen in France's election. "You were my guy'' he told Macron today, French officials say.

Lweji · 25/05/2017 20:18

Trump really can't help himself: He brought up size of his election victory AGAIN to EU leaders

He's clearly trying to compensate for something.
Small hands?
Small fortune?
Something else?

lionheart · 25/05/2017 20:25

I think it's great that despite all of team Trump's best efforts to present him as a bigly Statesman, he keeps undoing the project in this fashion.

Interesting to see the different responses to being on the receiving end of a Trump handshake (Macron, for example). Smile

It's a great image to study. Alpha male in action. You can imagine it in slow mo with David Attenborough commentating.

"And he we see the alpha male at the back, he slowly raises his hand and pushes himself forward. Then, his jacket open, he pulls it together with a huff and looks around, confident that he is the dominant leader"

(imagine that in a David Attenbrough voice) Grin

NATO meeting should be like:

Show Donald Trump world map.

Demand he points out where he is.

Can't.

Order Trump to sit down and shut up.

Bravo, M. Macron!

You could tell that Scrotus was pissed off that he didn't 'dominate' that handshake.

To PP's above: I really love the idea of Merkel, May, et al sitting in a room drinking cocktails and planning pranks to play on Scrotus! My God, can't you just see his reaction to being the but of a practical joke? I hate practical jokes with a passion, but I think I'd really enjoy seeing him being made the butt of a good prank. After all, he's already the arse of the US!

cozietoesie · 25/05/2017 21:26

No, Across!!

(If he found out, he might attempt to play a practical joke of his own.)
