AIBU?

To be absolutely disgusted with the conspiracies

That Theresa May and the Tory's have somehow orchestrated the Manchester bombings for political gains. I keep seeing statuses and posts on social media pertaining to this and it's making me sick.

At a time of immense tragedy such as this I couldn't give two shits about political point scoring. Children have died. People have lost parents, siblings, aunts and uncles. Children hospitalised will never be the same again.

AIBU to want certain people to keep their nasty and divisive politics out of this tragedy?

The only place I've seen it mentioned is on a thread on MN.

It stuns me that people intelligent enough to string together a semi literate, punctuated sentence are thick enough to believe this.

YANBU. It is insulting to victims and their families and frankly disgusting.

That's what you call fake news.
They are all over the place......

Actually I think that pointing out that they ARE fake and a lot of bullshit is necessary.

OP when you see those 'news' on FB, do you step up to say it's a lot of crap?

I've seen one or two of these on FB.

Personally, I think somebody has been watching too many action films. Sometimes an act of evil can just be an act of evil, there doesn't always have to be shocking twist at the end of the story.

I am no Tory supporter and no fan of Mrs May but this is just make believe clap trap.

OP when you see those 'news' on FB, do you step up to say it's a lot of crap? Admittedly I don't because I would not and have not ever commented on politics on FB. Some of the responses to people who have called it out have been utterly vile.

All parties have suspended political campaigns.

There will be plenty of time later for these sorts of conversations.

It seems a sad fact that no incident is without it's conspiracy theories now. There are still some who think 7/7 was an inside job. And those that think Sandy Hook was a hoax.

They all have their own agenda, and are best ignored. You cannot argue with a conspiracy theorist, everything is answered by 'ah, but that's what they want you think' or a near variation. I find a good pointer is someone who uses the term 'sheep' - avoid, avoid, avoid.

I have to say I have all manner of Lefty propaganda on my fb feed but haven't seen anything like this. In fact it has all been respectful and subdued.

Go and take a look on the "So an attack is imminent" thread and there are several (albeit a tiny minority of the total posters) either posting such bollocks or carefully insinuating it was an "inside job".

I try and pick them up on it, but it's very boring and tiresome.

It's not just on FB.

I don't believe the Tories had anything to do with this, but it is quite helpful to their campaign.

And...?

If they had no control over the incident, they how can they be "blamed" if it is helpful to their campaign.

I really don't understand why people here are so upset with speculation. Surely the motivation behind any asking of questions is to try and get to the truth. I don't see any evidence that most MNers are blindly accepting of, or unquestioningly faithful to the government the rest of the time. Why should their natural scepticism be any different at a time of national emergency? Why the obsession with trying to make everyone think and feel the same way you do?

Because speculating that Theresa May was behind the attacks or that she deliberately turned a blind eye to them is as sensible as my mother believing there are cities with pyramids and everyfink on 'the other side' of the moon.

TM had no more to do with the attack than Miley Cyrus or aliens from outer space. Suggesting otherwise is ludicrous and detracts from the real issues that need exploring.

Add people who talk about 'getting to The Truth' (-as in the 'truth' that only YouTubers and keyboard wizards on the internet can 'know' -) to the list of people to avoid. The fact that they're all only on YT, or their own websites, is a big clue to their credentials.

I,'d love to know what gives you such unwavering faith in the woman looks on smiling as her successive government creates such poverty and desperation that millions of its citizens only avoid starvation through the philanthropy of the Trussell Trust and other food banks.

I'd love to know what's given you such unwavering faith in a woman who has been part of successive governments' humiliation and betrayal of sick and disabled people, many of whom have either starved to death or killed themselves as a direct result of government policies.

I'd love to know why you have such faith in a woman who has blithely overseen the dismantling of the NHS since 2010. I'm not just engaging in rhetoric here, seriously MotherOfBleach what has she done to cultivate your trust? Id love to know so that I can be as accepting as you are.

Report
MotherOfBleach · 24/05/2017 12:41

I don't trust her. I cannot stand the woman in all fairness. But there is not a single scrap of credible evidence that TM knew about or improvised the attack.

Unless such evidence comes to light I'm happy to file TM the Terrorist in the same drawer as Aliens Abducted Me and Elvis Lives. They all make as much sense.

Could someone explain to me why this is? Not being goady or saying I believe it.

Just saddened in the aftermath of any tragic event by some people. Had to block 3 lefties on FB over the last 24 hours, spreading their poison about how TM has created this.
Some people have no shame

The reason it's distasteful is because of the psychology of conspiracy theorists. They do what they do because they get a kick out of believing they are 'special', part of a tiny group of extra-wise souls who have the intelligence to see what's 'really' going on. So effectively, they are 'using' this tragedy to big themselves up and make themselves feel good.

Haven't seen anyone suggest any conspiracy theories on here. However lots of people have suggested that May may use it to her benefit politically.
Jeremy Vine asked Amber Rudd this question earlier today, as did another political commmentator.
Perfectly legitimate question.

I'm not sure that's the case, kesstrel. There were plenty of people calling those who doubted the official Hillsborough line conspiracy theorists. There were plenty of people who just wanted the families of Jean Charles De Menezes and Mark Duggan to shut up and go away and stop blaming our hard working police force for incompetence and institutional racism. Plenty of people called those who were sceptical of Jimmy Savile's 'saintly charitable work' conspiracy theorists, even just before it came to light. There's definitely a place for healthy scepticism, whatever the event.

Admittedly after only the briefest of google searches I could only come up with one site trying to make political gain by the Manchester attacks, by seemingly putting words in the Governments mouths, and reporting on an imaginary meeting, and what "They" (i.e. The Socialist Worker") think the Government will do.

Carefully disguised as a "don't let them get away with this" when they haven't even done anything yet.

Oh the irony!

Oh, hang on, stop the press-now bloody Morrissey has got in on the act
