I think I read too much news and twitter but I'm devastated by what has happened yesterday and really struggling with anxiety about it.

We all react in different ways but isn't the psychology/ physical reaction we generate more adrenaline which promotes our more basic animal instinct to run/hide or fight/ get angry. Or possibly worse swing between all the different emotions.

The biggest challenge is to acknowledge the tradgedy and support those who are suffering but manage our own emotions by hugging those close to us and making every attempt to not react and move on from emotional reactions and snappyness in others due to the heightened society stress.

We need to keep going and stand strong together as a nation.

dh will be going into London tomorrow as he often does. dd will be going in at the weekend. We've talked over our what to do if x happens plan. They have torches on their key rings and carry water. That's always sensible if the tube loses power anyway.

Have tickets to see ELO in Wembley next month, was so looking forward to it but now I'll be going and be on edge the whole time. We then travel out of Manchester airport in July. Again, what should be a happy time for the family will probably be slightly nervy.
This is what they want though, it's shit.

What she has said is that intelligence received as a result of investigation today suggests a wider cell cant remember the word at large.

My anxiety has really gone sky high. I usually comfort myself saying I'm more likely to have a car accident but yesterday my friend was at that gig (safe and well now) so it's all a little too close to home for me.

I hate having MH issues at the best of times but I'm struggling today. Im terrified of going to the theatre at the weekend.

We've been at critical before but not since 2007. Usually we seem to be either substantial or severe so in other words there is always a risk.

You know, it is ok to be worried.

All this stiff upper lip stuff is all well and good but we're not British caricatures on a fucking tea towel.

I'm shitting it, personally.

@Veterinari unless it's essential that you go, why put yourself through the stress of an unnecessary trip to London? It's not ridiculous to avoid risk.

It's understandable that you're scared Vet but people
Commute to London every day . I remember in the 1980's walking over broken glass when bombs were being set off. Life has to go on.

If raising the threat level means we have more armed police & soldiers on the streets then I think it must be the best thing to do.

It will only get worse. Very frightening.

Munich was a far right extremist, nothing to do with Isis, and was exactly 5 years after Anders Breivik's murders in Norway.

Report

I think everyone just needs to calm down a bit! The level has been raised due to the fact the police don't know if it was a loner Wolf attack or there be a potential for for that particular suicide bomber being in a working group.

Operation temperer has been running in the UK for years and has always included the military. All you will now see is an increase in police present and you will see uniformed soldiers standing with weapons and specific points in the UK. They won't be roaming the streets like normal police.

I know it's ridiculously scary but the best thing you can do is literally go back to your normal life and carry on as normal.

Nope. No intelligence. Theresa Mays making it all up to help her in the polls. Hmm FFS.

Could happen anywhere. DS is off to a concert in Manchester and football at Wembley this weekend. I refuse to worry.

BBC say that we're up to critical because security services have been "unable to rule out whether Manchester bombing suspect Salman Abedi acted alone", and critical means an attack MAY be imminent.

Sounds like they have concerns, but they're not telling everyone to hide under their chairs.

I'm going into London tomorrow, out for dinner in the evening and we'll continue as planned. If raising the level to critical means they can bring in the military in the short-term to guard against another attack while they work out who's behind it then I'm all for it.

There's not much we can do. Just live our lives.
Not sure whether it's the answer but when we were at Disneyland Paris recently there was a massive security presence from the train station to the park. All our bags were x-rayed on entering the park grounds and there were army guys and dogs patrolling the area. Even going from the park hotels to the park you had to get bag x-rayed and go through a metal detector. I was quite shocked, but I can see why.

I am terrified.

I was quite capable of saying 'fuck them, they won't stop me doing anything' when it was just me.

But I will be curtailing my actions with the dc because of this. They are targeting children ffs.

And I'm sick of people trying to tell me today that I, me personally, will be responsible for letting the terrorists win.

Not the psychopaths blowing up children.

Not the governments circle jerking with Saudi Arabia who are funding extremism.

It's all little old me who doesn't want to risk my children's lives for a shopping trip that I can do online instead who is letting them win.

Fuck off.

I always think that no matter what terror can throw at us, we learn, we cope and we adapt. If you think to the horror of 9/11 and sitting watching the twin towers come down, none of us probably ever wanted to board a 747 again. But now airport security is much tighter and safer. We adapted. Concerts/mass public events have long been a soft target, and we have been perhaps a little complacent in security but after last night, that too will change and we will carry on once more enjoying music and events. I can't use the words I would like to to describe these cowards who think they are off to eternal glory but they are in the very very small minority, and we can't let them destroy our society and way of life. Life goes on.

Daytona - pass the spliff, I want to get high too Hmm

I am normally a worrier and risk averse, but I am not losing sleep over this. Frankly what can you do? - that would be nothing. I am with the poster who pointed out that the risks are tiny.

Perhaps the only thing I do differently these days is that I consider my escape route and options when I go somewhere public and busy - a part of me remains alert...but it doesn't actually stop me doing what I want to do

COULD be imminent not is imminent. I know it's scary but I don't think everyone panicking and misunderstanding the threat is unhelpful. Stay strong and carry on don't let losers win.

Tbh I think it's delusional to think that the announcement hasn't been made after careful consideration and discussion about how politically advantageous or otherwise it will be to make it.
