Her date for Manchester isn't wrong. It was yesterday which is 22/05/17z

sonjadog - it's not wrong, it was the 22nd May yesterday

Daytona I can see it's a coincidence that so many attacks have happened on the 22nd but that 'pattern' is manipulated. Where is Berlin, Paris, Nice for example.... presumably removed as they don't fit the pattern of dates.

Keep calm and carry on is more than just a slogan on a tea towel. I can't imagine even for a moment how it must have been for my grandparents living in a London during the Blitz, people dying night after night, building destroyed, fire, carnage, and yet they carried on and the City kept on functioning. Unimaginable, but inspiring. If my gran could carry on through all that I'm buggered if I'm going to let the odd arsehole with a misguided death wish put me off using the tube, going to shops or just generally getting on with my life.

The attacks could be anywhere in the UK not just London. It is frightening, but they could happen anywhere.

Absolutely awful, but nothing we can do about it, just be as careful and vigilant as you can

Report
seoulsurvivor · 23/05/2017 22:04

It is pointless to be scared. What can you do? I have to take a flight tomorrow - should I cower in fear just in case?

Let's be strong and show the terrorists that we can't be made to live in fear.

Theresa may has just said they believe an 'attack is imminent'. I've just watched her say it. How is anyone 'scaremongering' Hmm

Report
BuckinghamLass · 23/05/2017 22:05

Please stop scaremongering. It simply means they're beefing up security forces while they try and figure out if there really is/was a network around the bomber.

There will be so much security out you'll probably be more safe in the coming weeks.

Threat level info here

so an attack is imminent

Seriously unhelpful phrasing OP.

Why did you feel the need to sensationalize what is actually a fucking scary enough situation? Why not report accurately what was said?

"UK terror threat level raised to highest level of 'critical', meaning further attack may be imminent, prime minister says"

Actually, from the Security Services link above, the definition of Critical threat level is 'an attack is expected imminently'. But no, there's nothing for us to do differently because the level has been increased (it hasn't been imminent 'forever' by the way; this is the first time since 2007 it's been at Critical), it just affects the activities of government, police and security agencies. It's published now for reasons of transparency, that's all.

I'm usually in the keep calm carry on camp. But I'm supposed to be travelling to central London tomorrow from the North where I usually work.

It's not an essential trip and Exposing myself to airport, tube etc does concern me - am I being ridiculous?

Report
myoriginal3 · 23/05/2017 22:06

It's extremely significant that the terror threat has been raised. That's what has me worried. DP travels across London on the Victoria line twice daily. My heart will be in my mouth all day now.

Sorry I'm cynical - how politically convenient for May...

All we can do is keep calm and carry on. We coped with the IRA through the 70ss, 80 and 90s and we'll cope with this. Just be sensible and be aware.

Report
OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/05/2017 22:07

It is going up to critical, presumably because today's attack looks more organised than recent attacks. In saying that, it doesn't mean that anything is necessarily going to happen.

We need to carry on as normal, but heed any advice given. We are a country that is good at this. We need to be brave and sensible.

FloweringDeranger · 23/05/2017 22:07

As far as that supposed pattern is concerned, take a look at:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Islamist_terrorist_attacks

Numerology is fake news. I also found it interesting how often the islamic countries themselves crop up in that list.

Yep. The death of children is politically convenient.
Seriously? WTF

Report
JamieXeed74 · 23/05/2017 22:08

It must mean the bomber was part of a cell that is still at large with the capability of carrying out another attack of similar ferocity.

FFS. Do you mean the bombing? Or just the increased threat level?

I thought we were all getting on with our lives and not letting terrorism defeat us? Why the anxiety? You've got more chance of being hit by a car I read on here earlier.

This thread is giving in to terror.

It's raised because they have intelligence there WILL be further attacks

There isn't a higher level than this, it's as bad as it can be

Sounds like she's doing something to look like she's doing something in the run up to the election rather than having information that a threat is imminent.

They are stepping up security in Birmingham for Pride

My DC are flying for first time this weekend so wondering if airports will be chaotic.

It is scary. Im going to see a gig at tge Olympic Stadium next weekend and for first time wlll be noting exits.

The thing is....it could be anywhere. You would have to avoid going out. Some people work and live in cities and carry on.

I think we must always expect something now. Sorry if that sounds dramatic but we are in a new world.

But we are here. Must think of those parents that cant hug their children tonight.
