Dark concerns

For reasons I won't go into -DH I'm looking at you- our laundry was "darked on" overnight.
AIBU to consider one of the following remedial actions?:

a) throw the clothes away and buy replacements. It was a washing line full, all in very good condition so would be costly.

b) invest in a tanning sun bed (saw a used one for £2.5k on eBay) and use it to bring the laundry back to the "light". Could be a good back up in the event he does this shit again.

c) LTB.

I'll go with the highest vote, I'm really not precious about it. Thanks.

Spiders have willies?

Well only the male ones, obvs Grin

MineralWater · 23/05/2017 13:39

I really thought you were saying your DH had pissed all over the clean laundry.

Darked as in dark patch of piss.

I'm very disappointed, OP.

NicolasFlamel · 23/05/2017 13:40

I feel confused and amused at the same time

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 23/05/2017 13:41

I think you should be ok with re-washing it. Obviously some of the more interesting "darks" might survive but perhaps you could boil wash any of DH's stuff, just in case?

WorshipTheGourd · 23/05/2017 13:42

ITooHaveBeenThere · 23/05/2017 13:45

I often leave my washing out to be darked on.

For that intention.

I like the smell of darked on laundry.

Sgtmajormummy · 23/05/2017 13:46

Nuke it in the microwave piece by piece. (Grin Never done that.)
OR
Make a quarantine area and give it a sniff before you put it away. (I HAVE done that in the case of rained-on or damp/dank/dewy washing.)

RosaDeZoett · 23/05/2017 13:47

My oh has a fear of laundry getting darked on. Sometimes he brings it in at dusk. I wait until he's gone to bed and hang it out again. (aibu?? 😂) He says rats run up and down the washing line at night..... I'm not saying they don't, it just seems really unlikely.

BarbaraofSeville · 23/05/2017 13:49

For those not up to speed on 'getting darked on', I think it's to do with judging people who leave their washing out overnight but on questioning, not coming up with any real reason as to why it is unacceptable, so 'it might get darked on' which isn't really a thing obvs is as good as any other reason usually related to different standards of housekeeping.

Lotsawobblybits · 23/05/2017 13:51

My knickers got darked on a few nights ago- they were on the octopus and I got distracted & forgot to go back out for them. But something had laid little green eggs all over a gusset. Shock

Op- I go with the sunbed option!

viques · 23/05/2017 13:52

For the benefit of those who do not understand the seriousness of darked on washing can I remind you about that really scarey Dr Who series with the stone Angels (dontblink!). If you remember you weren't scared of statues or blinking before that were you?

It's the same with darked on clothes, once you KNOW there is no going back............

That's a bit deep Barbara , no judgement toward others here, the only person I'm griping with is my DH!

So back to my original question, what do you think I should do? Grin

You need to rewash the whole lot again. And then throw your washing machine away immediately due to contamination.

DJBaggySmalls · 23/05/2017 13:56

You have to launder it again, everyone knows that.

kaytee87 · 23/05/2017 13:56

My husband hung a wash up after dinner and left it out one night. I told him it had been darked on and he looked at me like this Hmm
They just don't understand!!!

Burn the washing and ltb

GerdaLovesLili · 23/05/2017 14:00

did it get rained on? because that removes the CURSE OF THE DARKENING!

ImNegan · 23/05/2017 14:01

No rain just pure dark.

Ceremonial burning

Soubriquet · 23/05/2017 14:03

You need to do a cleansing ritual

Get some sage and tie it togother in a tight bundle

Light it and blow out the flames sonits smoking

Then waft it over the clothes muttering dark be gone

Much more effective if done at the time the sun is highest (so midday) and naked

Fink · 23/05/2017 14:04

I'd go with all three options. Burn this lot, obvs, beyond repair now. You're going to need the sunbed in case another lot gets close (I've never heard of being twilighted on, yet, but there are some strange goings on in our garden around dusk so you never know). And clearly you have to LTB, no question. Make sure the cost of replacement clothes comes into the divorce negotiations.

BloodWorries · 23/05/2017 14:07

I vote LTB.

The clothes cannot be saved. The only way to cleanse your household of the curse is to tie DH to a stake, scatter the clothes around his feet and set them alight. If DH survives then the curse has been lifted, if not it is passed down to the sons. Their souls (shoe souls of course) will be forever darkend.

toomuchtooold · 23/05/2017 14:09

At first I thought it was a euphemism for taking a poo. That would have been quite a different thread Shock

Out of interest, is there a name for the sinful state of clothing after they've been hung out on a Sunday?

leghoul · 23/05/2017 14:10

Wash it again then freeze it
