Is OP pronounced OhPee or Awp?

In a debate with someone over this

AIBU is eye-boo? People actually say it out loud in their heads like that?! Funny.

When reading posts that mention the OP, I have always said it in my head as the letters O and P (Oh Pee).

I'm really confused! I've never heard anyone say doll where it didn't rhyme with lol! Saying that, though, go just a few miles up the valley from me and people pronounce the world hole as haul!

Hmm, the doll one is weird. I pronounce doll/goal/bowl/troll the same.

Doll and troll rhyme, sure.

Goal and bowl rhyme, yes.

I can't accept anyone saying Opp instead of Oh Pee. It would be like saying that the country we live in is called the Uck, that Donald Trump is president of the User and the breakdown service with the yellow vans is the Aahh!

I think some people pronounce Doll and Troll with a long sound, like roll.

OP is "oh pee", and AIBU is "am I being un" to me.

Goal and pole and bowl all have long 'o' sounds, however.

See, I've always pronounced all of them the same as pole.
Never noticed whether anyone else pronounced it differently before.
Guess it's just a regional variation like bath = barf/baff. (You should hear the bickering over this one in our house!)

Not all acronyms are pronounced by sounding out the letters. That said I would say Oh pee for OP.

"op" as in "shop"

Oh so I just learnt something as I view DD as an acronym when it is just an abbreviation. Sorry for my tautology.
