In a debate with someone over this

OP posts:

The only way I can get doll to rhyme with goal is if I do a poor attempt at a New York accent.

PuppyMonkey · 23/05/2017 19:44

Doll does rhyme with Lol though. Doesn't it? Confused

CondensedMilkSarnies · 23/05/2017 19:48

I say Opp because I thought it stood for Opening Poster . Mind you if that's the case I guess I should be saying Ope Confused

Coulddowithanap · 23/05/2017 19:56

Doll rhymes with goal for me, maybe I'm saying them wrong but no one has ever told me lol

Back to OP, I never say it out loud but read it as O P.

FreeSpiritJen · 23/05/2017 19:58

Definitely Oh-Pee. As has been said, it's 2 letters that stand for original poster - or original post. So it's the letters O and P.

MiddleClassProblem · 23/05/2017 20:07

I think I can say doll and goal to rhyme but I am saying them both in repeat I'm so confused. It might've be more dole and goal...

CondensedMilkSarnies · 23/05/2017 20:10

I'm from Sarf Lunden and I say doll and goal so that they both rhyme with bowl .

Waltermittythesequel · 23/05/2017 20:11

It's Oh Pee because it should be O.P. to stand for Original Poster.

I can't believe people think any differently!

NauticalDisaster · 23/05/2017 20:13

OhPee

And I am another who cannot understand doll and goal rhyming.

Doll rhymes with bawl
Goal rhymes with bowl

Giddyaunt18 · 23/05/2017 20:15

Awp??? Original Poster, so OhPee obvs!

MerryMarigold · 23/05/2017 20:18

Doll doesn't rhyme with bawl or bowl! It.rhymes with 'sol' in solitude or 'bol' in Bollywood/ bolognaise

MiddleClassProblem · 23/05/2017 20:18

Doll rhymes with bawl? Not to me. Doll rhymes with hole...

But yes, Condensedmilk. My av end is sw London and doll also rhymes with goal unless really annunciating goal.

MerryMarigold · 23/05/2017 20:20

Hole and goal. So what's the difference between a baby doll and being on the dole

Giddyaunt18 · 23/05/2017 20:22

Doll rhymes with knoll
Goal rhymes with hole

MiddleClassProblem · 23/05/2017 20:24

I think you can over pronounce dole and goal but not doll iyswim but I think it's all the same in my accent.

Doll, knoll, hole, goal...

Grilledaubergines · 23/05/2017 20:25

South London-Surrey border and I could never say doll to rhyme with goal. That would be dole to rhyme with goal. Doll sounds like LOL by anyone I've heard say it.

JanetBrown2015 · 23/05/2017 20:52

Of course it's oh pee.

Everyone says em pee for MP. We pronounce capital letters in a particular way in the UK.If you don't you must be weird or foreign and never learned English.

TalkinBoutNuthin · 23/05/2017 21:23

It's definitely OP as in Shop here!!

I had a Canadian friend years ago try to tell me that poor, pour and pore were all pronounced differently, and then he proceeded to tie his tongue into knots inn attempt to prove it... weird!!!!

TalkinBoutNuthin · 23/05/2017 21:24

In AN an attempt (stoopid autocorrect)

EauPea · 23/05/2017 21:33

Was someone calling me? Grin

ImNegan · 23/05/2017 21:53

I quite like pronouncing it as Ope (one syllable) when I'm reading in my head. I'd never say it like that out loud/admit that to anyone in rl -because it sounds a bit twattish-

paxillin · 23/05/2017 22:58

Perhaps I am the only one not rhyming doll and goal.

Giddyaunt18 · 23/05/2017 23:14

GB for Great Britain is Gee Bee so OP as in Original Poster is Oh Pee. Simples.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 23/05/2017 23:18

Jip? Is that a joke? Grin

Plunkette · 23/05/2017 23:22

Pax I'm with you doll and goal do not rhyme in my accent.

dole and goal yes, but not doll.

Sugarnet OP is an acronym for original poster so it's O.P. Anything else would be illogical.
