To wear short(ish) shorts in the heat?

I'm a size 10, 5'4, but the definition of skinny fat. I'm not big but I'm a bit wobbly. I have a couple of pairs of shorts that fall above mid-thigh. I know we can wear what we like but would you inwardly judge? I'm mid 20s.

If your arse isn't hanging out why would anyone judge! Grin

Pinkheart5917 · 22/05/2017 23:02

Unless your showing your arse cheeks ( I've seen a lot of this lately) wear your shorts

user1491572121 · 22/05/2017 23:02

I wouldn't judge no. If you feel good in them then wear them.

user1495490253 · 22/05/2017 23:12

Arse cheeks will most definitely be tucked in! It's just the thigh fat I'm concerned about.

Do you feel self conscious? I wouldn't wear them if I felt I'd be thinking about it all the time, as I don't see the point in wearing something that makes me feel like that. If you would feel happy and confident in them, then wear them.

Gileswithachainsaw · 23/05/2017 12:35

Wear them. Who cares what anyone thinks. Anyone who has time to give a shit needs to get a hobby!!!

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 23/05/2017 12:36

Wear them. Why on earth would you not?

MrsJayy · 23/05/2017 12:36

Arse in thighs out and you are good to go

arbrighton · 23/05/2017 12:37

Heat???????????????

Ummmm, it's just WARM

MrsJayy · 23/05/2017 12:38

Just back from spain soo many arse cheeks in those thong shorts

Puffpaw · 23/05/2017 12:38

The thigh fat will look far better with a bit of a tan anyway, so get your legs out. But don't forget some spf.

I've discovered that actually shorter shorts look better on those, like me, who are chubbier of leg rather than longer ones....

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 23/05/2017 12:44

I'm 32, about the same height/weight as you.

Cut off denim shorts and army boots are what I wear in summer- have done for years, see no reason to change that now!

Don't care what anyone else thinks.
If you don't like it don't look.

I really really despise all this crap about clothes and whats "appropiate" for women of certain ages (or men for that matter).

I think the less judging in this society the happier everyone might be.

Wear what you like, when you like and sod everyone else.

BarnsligRav · 23/05/2017 12:45

I'm a size 16, so ACTUALLY fat, not "skinny fat" and I will be wearing shorts this year.

MrsJayy · 23/05/2017 13:12

What is skinny fat ?

NotAnotherUserName5 · 23/05/2017 13:15

This!!

I'm going to be wearing shorts this summer (if it's warm enough!) and my legs look like cottage cheese. I decreasingly worry about others' opinions. It's one of the benefits of ageing.

wineusuallyhelps · 23/05/2017 13:19

I had a conversation yesterday with a friend about the same thing. I like the shape of my legs but there are broken veins/imperfections, so I never wear shorts even though I'd like to.

She basically said "you're 40 and your legs are lovely - they're not going to be as good when you're 60, are they?! So WEAR THE SHORTS NOW!".

I'm going to be taking her advice Grin

VladmirsPoutine · 23/05/2017 13:29

Unless there is any bum showing then I'd say get your legs out!

changingShorts · 23/05/2017 13:36

I'm a similar size/height to you (and mid 40s) and I wore my short shorts at the weekend - but not too short: arse was in. Was mostly in my garden but did venture out to pick a couple of things up. No-one pointed, laughed, or looked on in horror.

motherinferior · 23/05/2017 13:53

What heat? It's under 20 degrees here in London!

Crunchyside · 23/05/2017 14:00

Shorts? How uncouth. Get your knickerbockers and petticoat back on young lady and make sure you cover those ankles with a full skirt as well, you don't want men swooning at the sight of them!

statetrooperstacey · 23/05/2017 14:02

I wear quite short shorts, I'm 43. (No arde cheeks tho)
Thing is you have commit to the shorts, they will look a bit horrible first few days but Stick with it only 2/3 days to lose the milk bottle look then you can wear them with no worriesSmile imo short shorts nearly always look better than longer ones. You can always try some instant leg tint if your really self conscious but I wouldn't bother just tough if out! Imperfections will be gone as slight tan will cover them.

DisorderedAllsorts · 23/05/2017 14:28

Wear what you like but I find floaty long layers a better way of keeping cool as your skin isn't frying in the sun. As long as there's no camel toe or backside on view then wear what you like.
