to love the sound of heavy rain

It's the most relaxing sound possible for me. I open the bedroom window wide and snuggle up in bed.
Is this a throwback from being forced to sleep in a campavan as a kid or does everyone like it?

Also, where the hell do I get a good recording?! All I've come across sound like white noise. Not the same

I love it too. It helps me get to sleep.

Hadenoughtoday · 17/05/2017 01:10

Another one laying listening - also love the sound of rain on a tent.

Redglitter · 17/05/2017 01:11

Have you tried the 'Rain Rain' app. I love it, so relaxing

MontyPythonsFlyingFuck · 17/05/2017 01:12

I have a skylight on the landing and I'm currently enjoying the sound of rain on it. Also thinking about the poor, parched garden - it so desperately needs a good drenching - so that's very relaxing too.

Raaaaaah · 17/05/2017 01:20

It's keeping me calm as pat my poorly little ones bum all night. Rain on (watertight) canvas is the best.

Spuddington · 17/05/2017 01:37

I adore it.

If it's raining at night I open the window and listen to the sound.

toffeeboffin · 17/05/2017 01:40

No idea about a recording but I find it soothing too. Definitely harks backs to caravanning as a child and the cosiness it gave.

Also remember driving back from Blackpool illuminations in heavy rain, watching the rain trickle down the windows. Very relaxing. Stuffed full of fish and chips and tired from walking along the front Grin

SashaSays · 17/05/2017 01:41

Yep I love it too. It makes me feel calm, gets me to sleep. Don't quite feel the same when I'm stuck in it though.Hmm

WanderingNotLost · 17/05/2017 01:50

I love it too. I think it's the extra feeling you get of being safe, protected and cosy, all wrapped up warm and snug in your duvet while a storm rages outside. My DP thinks I'm nuts.

DixieFlatline · 17/05/2017 02:14

I've always liked this. Though I can see how it sounds rather white noise-like, now you mention it.

The quality of the rain sound is better on Rainy Mood's site:

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 17/05/2017 02:19
& there are lots more available*
  • I don't own or run this or other videos btw.
GoldilocksAndTheThreePears · 17/05/2017 02:55

I have a white noise app on ipad that includes rain on ground, rain on window, rain on umbrella. Though my fave is aeroplane cabin noise. I prefer an app cos I can't find a way to close the youtube app without stopping it and it's too bright to sleep to

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 17/05/2017 03:01

Download the Rain Rain app, it has several different rain options and you can blend them together to make your own perfect mix. I like dirty rain mixed with laundromat and ocean waves, it sends me happily to sleep.

OrlandaFuriosa · 17/05/2017 03:52

It's lovely the first few nights. After that I pity my waterlogged garden.

MsHooliesCardigan · 17/05/2017 04:25

DS2 has a skylight in his bedroom. He woke up half an hour ago and called for me. It was lovely snuggling with him and listening to the rain.

Temporary2002 · 17/05/2017 04:57

I do too, there are some great videos on youtube, here is one channel. www.youtube.com/channel/UClKZ6IL7WhLm3DePEr_fHPw

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 17/05/2017 05:50

Me too.
There are "relaxing noises" apps available that often have rain sounds.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 17/05/2017 06:04

I love it. And the smell of rained on recently dry ground - or petrichor.

Teabagtits · 17/05/2017 06:07

I love that sound too, particularly in a tent or similar. It makes me very sleepy

LittleBooInABox · 17/05/2017 06:14

Yanbu - it's lovely! And the smell of the earth after 🙂

Chillidawg · 17/05/2017 06:18

YANBU.
I live in a chalet bungalow with velux roof lights in my bedroom and love lying there in the dark listening to the pitter-patter.
Reminds me of caravan holidays when I was little. If there was thunder and lightning mum would make us all hot chocolate and we'd sit up and watch the storm.
The teens will not be happy this morning if it persists at bus stop time.

blubberball · 17/05/2017 06:21

Yep, it's lovely. I sometimes find some good videos on YouTube.

Natsku · 17/05/2017 06:24

It is so lovely, definitely best hearing it in a tent.

faithinthesound · 17/05/2017 07:14

YABVU to not invite all the rest of us over for sharesies Grin

DrDiva · 17/05/2017 07:18

I was just thinking this last night. I really miss rain on a corrugated iron roof. When roofs in my home country joined the 20th century, I was devastated!
