to find vegans really annoying?

Just that really. I know a few and my god do they ever preach on and on about their coconut oil macha powder cacao powder chia seed energy balls and milk industry and calves being killed etc. It's the over earnestness and attitude that they are the most enlightened people to walk this planet that wind me up. It reminds me of being 18 again.

the hospitals are not full of vegans. They are full of obese meat eaters with diabetes, cancer and all the rest.

I give you an example of the types of goady comment that give people negative images of vegans as being preachy "I'm more caring than you/ I'm saving the environment more than you / I'm healthier than you"

Meat causes cancer. So does red wine. So do mobile phones. But wine also lowers the risk of cancer. Hmm

As said before, people can make whatever choice they like but they don't have to self righteous about it like their life choice is more enlightened than anyone else's

ArcheryAnnie · 16/05/2017 19:07

perhapsiwill but the vegans in the post about the wedding were preaching to the husband (not my husband, btw, another poster wrote that). And yet you think him giving a comeback is "bullying". How is it bullying?

perhapsiwill · 16/05/2017 19:10

*Archeryannie

My comment about bullying was about the thread, I said the person who made the comment was an arsehole

What an arsehole.

You all sound like bullies with all this vegan bashing.

Rockaby · 16/05/2017 19:10

Vegans believe that an animals life is equal to a human life. Basically everyone and everything has the same value. As such they don't believe they are superior.

Sorry, I know you aren't vegan, but this^^ simply isn't true for all, (or, I would venture, most), vegans.

I am not vegan either, but have been working my way towards it since the start of the year. I do not for a second place the same value on the life of say, a bee, as I do a human. I certainly don't think all humans are all as intelligent, moral or ethical as each other, (but I don't feel the need to pass judgement on anyone either). That is not the reason I want to become vegan. I can't speak for everyone else, obviously.

Janey50 · 16/05/2017 19:12

Anyone can be a diet bore. It's not exclusive to vegans. A couple of the most 'preachy' people I know are carnivores/omnivores and are forever banging on about the virtues of their latest diet.

RebelRogue · 16/05/2017 19:12

Some people are just arseholes. Their diet has nothing to do with it.

YoloSwaggins · 16/05/2017 19:13

True - to be honest I haven't found the vegans as annoying as the people in the office who announce they "don't eat carbs at lunchtime".

ArcheryAnnie · 16/05/2017 19:14

So why was the husband an arsehole, then, and not the people preaching at him, perhapsiwill? And who has been bullying here?

perhapsiwill · 16/05/2017 19:14

Also I find it a bit like the old racist jokes in the 70s/80s. If a black person told the jokes or laughed at them they were a good bloke/funny person. I am supposed to laugh at the vegan jokes being made otherwise I'm a miserable vegan etc. It's just acceptable to make fun like it was with fat people, gay people etc who laughed along with the jokes in an attempt to stop the bullying/fit in.

perhapsiwill · 16/05/2017 19:16

Archeryannie what were they saying?

BossyBitch · 16/05/2017 19:17

Some people are just arseholes. Their diet has nothing to do with it.

This. A hundred times over. I'm afraid I have still not unfriendly the baby-signing, vegan, housing a misunderstood Islamic fundamentalist in her spare room pansexual, non-binary Facebook friends because I find her (them?) bloody hilarious. I suppose this makes me a bad person, but the laughs are with it!

BossyBitch · 16/05/2017 19:18

*unfriended. Autocorrect really needs the 21st century.

ddssdd · 16/05/2017 19:18

ArchieAnnie no vegans do not think of themselves as part of an oppressed minority, I've heard it all now Grin

I've never had someone threaten me (yet) for my food choices, but I have for my colour.

BossyBitch · 16/05/2017 19:18

... Plus some ... I give up!

malificent7 · 16/05/2017 19:22

I used to be vegan... god i was annoying!

Went back to meat for a bit.

Am considering giving meat up again.

I have to say part of the reason why i became so preachy as a vegan was that i got so much grief from meat eaters so i had to justify my Lifestyle.

I wish everyone would live and let live. Im sure wed live in a better world if intensive farming was abolished but i cant see it happening. I dont think we do need animal oroducts to be healthy.

ArcheryAnnie · 16/05/2017 19:22

ddssdd except someone did on the very first page, and perhapsiwill has just done so on this page, a few posts up from this.

It's both ridiculous and offensive. Being vegan is absolutely not comparable to being Black or gay.

derxa · 16/05/2017 19:24

I'm in the middle of lambing. The idea that I, DS and my shepherdess don't care for our sheep is beyond ludicrous. The animals live in fields and give birth in fields. I hate petting zoos. They're miserable places.

ArcheryAnnie · 16/05/2017 19:25

And just to say - I don't usually order meat if I'm in a cafe with a vegan, and if I have a vegan visiting I will go out of my way to make sure they have nice things to eat. But I will not be preached at or told that vegans are better than me or somehow oppressed.

YoloSwaggins · 16/05/2017 19:25

*"Surely it's better not to have been born than to be born into an industrial farm."

You make that decision for all farm animals, then? hmm Would you say the same about people born deaf and blind, for example, if you feel that beings with sub-optimal living conditions should not live at all? *

That's not at all what she was saying. There's a difference between happening to be born into unfortunate conditions and being bred specifically to be trapped in a small cage standing in your own shit in the dark until you die.

Are you seriously trying to argue that factory farming is a good thing?

RebelRogue · 16/05/2017 19:27

Perhaps did you just compared jokes about veganism with racism and homophobia?
Did anyone attack you for your food choices? Threatened you? Tell you you are an abomination ?

CakeAhoy · 16/05/2017 19:31

But of a generalisation there. Let's switch a few words shall we?

'I've met some annoying muslims that just preach on and on about Allah and mosques. They are all so annoying. Aibu to find muslims annoying?'

Generalising any group of people tends to be a rather ignorant and unpleasant thing to do.

I'm a vegan, apart from my meat eating dc and Dh no one else needs to to know.

But does that stop some people badgering me?

'Why won't you eat the cake?
Go on, have some.
Why?
Are you on a diet?
Why not then, it's really nice, just try a bit please.'

And if I do tell them I'm vegan? The non stop questioning, telling me about nutrients (Hmm yeah, fairly clear I've reaped more stuff than you have about this) and going on and on and on....

I don't care what anyone eats, I've made a personal choice and I don't look down on anyone who has made a different one.

If only that was reciprocated by a few too many nosy dicks Grin

WhenLoveAndCakeCollide · 16/05/2017 19:48

Are there no annoying meat eaters? Of course there are. There are dicks in all walks of life.

I'm not vegan, but I am vegetarian. I was raised on a vegetarian diet, and made a personal choice to remain vegetarian, once I reached an age where I felt I could make an informed decision that was right for me.

I've lost count of how many times, I've had meat eaters recoil in horror, when they learn - because they've asked "how long have you been vegetarian?" - that I've never eaten meat. They then usually proceed to wave their burger/pork chop/battered cod/whatever in front of my face, encouraging me to try it. "You don't know what you're missing," "how do you know if you don't try," etc etc. The only time I ever get 'defensive' about my diet, is when I'm provoked, otherwise I just happily get on with things.

Anyone who feels the need to judge others on their choice of diet, is a twat, and those twats can be vegan, vegetarian, pescetarian, omnivore, flexitarian, fruitarian and so on.

ArcheryAnnie · 16/05/2017 19:53

KLAXON! At least three people now in this thread making ridiculous comparisons between veganism and actually being oppressed.

RebelRogue · 16/05/2017 19:56

@WhenLoveAndCakeCollide exactly.

I actually think it's a bit of a cop out,and excuses twatish behaviour when it's "attributed" to a certain(limiting) characteristic.
Someone isn't a dick because of what they eat, believe in,wear, buy, drink whatever.
A twat is a twat, and it will always find something to be a twat about.

user1487175389 · 16/05/2017 19:56

You're just jealous of our perky, Soya-fuelled boobs, lovely clear skin and relatively clean consciences aren't you, OP?! Grin

Vegan for about 6 weeks and looking hotter than I have done in a long time. More energy too.
