to find vegans really annoying?

Just that really. I know a few and my god do they ever preach on and on about their coconut oil macha powder cacao powder chia seed energy balls and milk industry and calves being killed etc. It's the over earnestness and attitude that they are the most enlightened people to walk this planet that wind me up. It reminds me of being 18 again.

My username is very old now think it came from my love of cats originally, my cat isn't vegan BTW nor has he tasted energy balls. My kind of energy balls are the chocolate coconut ones 😀

ShoesHaveSouls · 16/05/2017 00:35

Shoeshavesouls is from Red Dwarf - and a crap joke told therein - it's not vegan, neither am I.

Never realised it could have that connotation tbh, but cool.

LostSight · 16/05/2017 00:38

I tend to agree, people don't want to know where their dinner cake from or how it was treated, we as a society want to totally detach ourselves from the killing of an animal do we can chew on its flesh, we chose not to make the connection.

Isn't this just another generalisation? I know exactly where my meat products come from and am au fait with all stages of production. The system is imperfect, but I am satisfied with the majority of the animal welfare I have seen in the UK.

www.imdb.com/title/tt0684175/quotes

There you go, second item down. I'm a veggie and a red dwarf nerd. The worst person to be in a pub with.

blerp · 16/05/2017 00:40

I am not offended by vegans generally, but I have come across an instance of individual vegans choosing to preach to little kids that cow's milk is like pus and worse while their parents were unaware, and that made me very sad.

ShoesHaveSouls · 16/05/2017 00:42

You've done it now blerp. Dairy debate.

Blondie1984 · 16/05/2017 00:42

Completely agree with kimonolady - you can't say you dislike an entire group of people based solely on bad experiences with a few of them

Anyone who has a strong belief that they try and push on you is irritating - regardless of whether it's religious, political, dietary etc

kali110 · 16/05/2017 00:43

I don't think it's fair to lump all vegans into that category, but some def are!
I've been told i can cure my pain if i went vegan Hmm
I'm still anazed that some make their pets vegan, i had no isea you could Confused

sweetkitty · 16/05/2017 00:43

Lost sight - just my opinion and experience when people find out I'm vegan

I don't have the time or the inclination to preach to anyone what they should or shouldn't be eating.

LostSight · 16/05/2017 00:44

Dairy debate?

I like full fat milk myself, but I know it's controversial.

Tabulations · 16/05/2017 00:45

I call these types of people Vigilante Vegans. I know a few (I'm vegan myself, couldn't give a flying fuck what other people eat, definitely don't think of meat eaters as 'feral' lmao) and they are ridiculous sometimes.

One of them actually ranted at me when I was feeding my nephew. He's 9 months old, I had him for the afternoon so my sister could get some errands done and she'd left me to give him his dinner. The offending item? A Petit-Filous. Apparently I was 'poisoning' him, compromising my beliefs and I "wasn't the person she thought I was." It's probably just as well she wasn't there for the main course of pureed chicken and veg, she'd burned me at the stake.

seriouslynowdontbesoearnest · 16/05/2017 00:45

yep, heard that cows milk is like pus line too! Plus I have a (vegan) friend who makes a big fuss if anyone she is eating out with orders fish because it disgusts and offends her. Said friend politely changed her order to something less offensive. Honestly! Mushrooms make me gag but I wouldn't tell someone not to order them in a restaurant.

Vegans are annoying in so far as they remind me, merely by existing, that it would be possible to live more ethically if only I were prepared to make more personal sacrifices. It would be so much easier not to have to think about that.

I don't know any preachy ones.

LostSight · 16/05/2017 00:52

Fair enough sweetkitty. I think we live in a society where lots of things end up getting brushed under the carpet and hidden away, to a point that is unhealthy.

It is difficult though as openness that you are involved in the meat industry, or worse, animal experimentation, no matter how necessary,, might put you at risk of attack from the minority who hold extremist positions.

CheeseandGherkins · 16/05/2017 00:54

Agree with Kimonolady. Why are you judging a whole section of society based on the limited few that you know? Wow.

CheeseandGherkins · 16/05/2017 00:56

I'm not a vegan, but afaik, yes a percentage of milk is pus.

seriouslynowdontbesoearnest · 16/05/2017 01:01

there's a lot of very serious responses on here.

Kimonolady and blondie84, I agree with your point about anyone that preaches lifestyle choices at you being annoying. My point is that, in my experience, those prone to a dogmatic outlook are often attracted to veganism.

Sweetkitty, I will make an exception as you don't seem annoying. If I knew how, I would change the post title to 'Vegans are annoying (except sweetkitty)'.

seriouslynowdontbesoearnest · 16/05/2017 01:02

ShoesHaveSouls · 16/05/2017 01:05

Pyong Grin I used to be SabrinaMulhollanderJjones. With all the Jeff-hacker malarkey, I shut that one down and started a new account Sad I miss that name.

At one point there was a plethora of RD names on here.

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/05/2017 01:08

back to the op....

More than half of my social circle are vegans or veggies that err towards veganism. And none of them are at all preachy and there are several "mixed marriages" iykwim. But.....the fitness freak gets on absolutely everyones bloody nerves. She eats a low carb high protein diet of steamed chicken etc and tries to convince the vegans that their diet will give them bone weakness, muscle wastage, plague., you name it. We all fine her intensely annoying.

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/05/2017 01:10

Proud to say that I "own" SmegHead on MN!

SugarnetMum · 16/05/2017 01:13

Not the vegans specifically but vegans who go on and on

For example.
Serving customer in a takeaway, girl skips que and comes to the till. I say sorry, que that side, points over.

She says "can ive a vegan wrap?" Do you do vegan wraps?

Me thinking woooooww oh my god vegan yeah so eccentric and different, of course we fucking do vegan wraps, jeez just get no bloody meat or cream you twat.

Get to the back of the line!!

SugarnetMum · 16/05/2017 01:13

Thinking she's special and different cause she's vegan, pisses me off.

sobeyondthehills · 16/05/2017 01:25
