to find vegans really annoying?

Just that really. I know a few and my god do they ever preach on and on about their coconut oil macha powder cacao powder chia seed energy balls and milk industry and calves being killed etc. It's the over earnestness and attitude that they are the most enlightened people to walk this planet that wind me up. It reminds me of being 18 again.

And won't it be even more crazy when people compare the rights of animals to humans and decide that this barbaric treatment should be stopped? Maybe, one day in a couple of hundred years they will. The world will be a better place, now go ahead and ridicule me.

CakeAhoy · 16/05/2017 20:06

KLAXON! At least three people now in this thread making ridiculous comparisons between veganism and actually being oppressed

Why? Because I said 'saying all vegans are annoying is the same ass saying all museums are annoying?

Both are personal choices that come under fire.

Also I don't think a comparison to a looked down on religion is that far out seeing as being a vegan has been compared on this thread to being 'evangelical' and 'cult-like' do you?

MissBax · 16/05/2017 20:06

I'd be tempted to go vegan myself if I didn't think I'd be consigned to a life of hanging out with people telling everyone what I cured with my pure organic coconut oil and looking smug.

Then you clearly are totally clueless about the actual reasons for veganism. No wonder they feel the need to preach to you, although it seems that animal welfare goes way over your head.

CakeAhoy · 16/05/2017 20:07

Bloody fingers must be the calcium deficiency

'Muslims'

I obviously wouldn't compare vegans to museums Grin

anon1987 · 16/05/2017 20:07

User14787 yes if you follow it right. My old brownie leader and her husband were vegans, she was really over weight, he was skinny, both died of the same cancer within 5 years of each other. They were late 50's early 60's at the time.
I also know a vegan who recently had a Gastric band fitted after developing diabetes type 2.

My daughter is dairy free (metabolic) and a lot of the vegan alternatives are high in sugar, salt and fats.
You got to do it right to get the right benefits from it.

Rockaby · 16/05/2017 20:12

One of the reasons it's taking me so long to commit to being fully vegan, is the weight gain and tiredness I have experienced. It is definitely NOT an instant recipe to a "hot" body. It's easy to get it wrong and I think some people are more predisposed to gain weight on a vegan diet. Some (not me) will lose weight and / or feel incredible jackasses Wink.

user1487175389 · 16/05/2017 20:12

Good point, anon and that's really sad. it's tempting to indulge with all the lovely vegan ice cream, cheese, fake meat on the market nowadays, but ultimately we should all be aiming for at least 10 a day, and building our diets around wholefoods, regardless of whether we eat meat and dairy or not.

MaisyPops · 16/05/2017 20:13

SOME vegans ARE Evangelical about it (assuming that is referring to what I said). SOME vegans do love to spend their time critiquing how others eat and why their veganism is best. One of my friends loves cheese but then she went vegan and now anyone mentions cheese you know she's going to say "i miss cheese so much buy it's worth going without because eating cheese is so wrong".

CakeAhoy · 16/05/2017 20:13

One of my lovely work colleagues after refusing that bloody cake repeatedly told me that I'd get fat if I stayed vegan.

Because she knew a vegan who got at and turned diabetic because all she ate was chips.

I would have told her about my two trips to a nutritionist, hours of reading and how I make sure I am missing no nutrients by eating a wide and varied diet.

But I didn't bother. She wouldn't have cared anyway, she just wanted to judge me.

and possibly talked about me or posted on mn about me going on and on about my 'diet'

CakeAhoy · 16/05/2017 20:16

MaisyPops oh I agree totally.

Some vegans can be, so can some meat eaters, muslims, christians, gym goers etc.

I was just pointing out that saying:

'All vegans are annoying because I met an evangelist' is the same as saying 'All (insert above example here) are annoying because I met an evangelist.'

MissBax · 16/05/2017 20:17

Rockaby sounds like you need to focus on a WFPB way of eating!

user1487175389 · 16/05/2017 20:19

I agree to some extent Rockaby, I'll admit I was absolutely knackered and felt quite ill for the first two weeks, but that was for two reasons: not having adequately researched how to to get everything my body needed from plant based foods and the widely acknowledged dairy withdrawal phase. I realised I was literally addicted to cheese. Even now I'm like an ex-smoker who accepts a cigarette on autopilot. I'll be making a cheese sandwich for the dcs and find a lump of cheese halfway to my mouth befofe realising what I'm doing! I don't actually miss it though.

perhapsiwill · 16/05/2017 20:23

There were a few people who didn't agree with slavery when everyone else went along with it. There were a few people who didn't believe beating women was okay when most thought it normal....One day....

Rockaby · 16/05/2017 20:23

Yes, whole food plant based is what I'm trying to do now Smile.

CakeAhoy · 16/05/2017 20:23

Rockaby if you were interested the 'China Study' cookbooks are quite good for nutritional balanced/healthy meals.

Not preaching though Grin just if you were looking for vegan recipes that definitely won't expand your waist line or leave you tired.

RebelRogue · 16/05/2017 20:25

Perhaps once again you are comparing eating meat with slavery and abuse. And then you wonder why some people think some vegans are twats?

perhapsiwill · 16/05/2017 20:27

No slavery and abuse in factory farming of course. Carry on with the insults.

user1487175389 · 16/05/2017 20:30

rebel either you haven't seen the Simon Austell mockumentary or you watched it but for some reason it didn't induce any feelings of empathy in you.

RebelRogue · 16/05/2017 20:32

Meh I like my bacon.

RebelRogue · 16/05/2017 20:33

I am also a twat Grin

to find vegans really annoying?
user1487175389 · 16/05/2017 20:34

So did you watch it or not?

MissBax · 16/05/2017 20:35

Rockaby good luck! Have you got the Forks over Knives app?? There's loads of great recipes on there

Rockaby · 16/05/2017 20:38

Oh I wondered about that app miss. I wasn't sure if it was worth the money. Do you use it? Is it good? I'm guessing so.

cake, definitely not preaching! I'm glad of the recommendation.

YNK · 16/05/2017 20:41

There are lots of them in my B12 deficiency support group!
Now they are evangelical about injecting B12.

Lovely people but full of regret for years of very poor health because of not supplementing properly.

CakeAhoy · 16/05/2017 20:46

The B12 apray from Holland and Barrett is lovely.

My Dh uses it too, despite being a big lover of meat and cheese he is deficient in B12.

Apparently his doctor said he thinks everyone should be using a supplement for it, whatever their diet.
