50p army indeed? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_Cent_Party

It's obvious, but remember to check the parties manifestos and make sure you are voting for the policies you agree with, and not just being influenced by the opinions of others and the politics of inevitability.

OP posts:

OP I couldnt agree more and have posted the exact same link on the political threads that Im on, they predominantly seem to be the anti Corbyn posters, they either claim no political allegiance or they use the 'im a lifelong labour voter but....'

I'm very pro Corbyn, very political and Im not getting paid for it, havent felt like this about an election since my first time voting in 1992, I was gutted that bugger kinnock lost Angry

whatwouldrondo · 16/05/2017 11:52

Dianne They reappear in waves when they worry that their political agenda is in danger of getting derailed eg around the time of the Lords amendments to the article 50 bill. It is quite eerie, you look around to see what has rattled them......

As well as the above MO they are usually new posters to Mumsnet and often foul foul of the guidelines fairly quickly too.

NotDavidTennant · 16/05/2017 12:44

I don't see how the sums add up.

The Chinese state has massive financial resources, and the real "50 cent army" are paid something like £70/month which might be a decent enough pay packet if you're living in China, but not for a UK-based person. The cost to the UK political parties would far exceed any benefit they could ever hope to reap.

squishysquirmy · 16/05/2017 12:48

Many of them aren't living in the UK, NotDavidTennant.
You know when someone is using technically correct grammar, etc, yet something doesn't quite feel right about their post? Like they might be fluent in written English, but not a native speaker?

DJBaggySmalls · 16/05/2017 12:50

If there's any propaganda posted on these forums I think its done by volunteers. I find its counter productive anyway.
I dont mind people having a point of view, but I get the rage when they post flat out lies.

pineapplesquash · 16/05/2017 12:59

I agree. It's like Momentum are posting every three seconds. Hmm

I was sat in a hotel room in a seaside town on election night in 1992 getting more and more depressed :(

Oh god that paints a picture,

I remember the '87 election as a 15 year old who was the only 1 in my family let alone my peer group who gave a shit watching it on my portable in my bedroom (ironically got repossessed a week later) , so I thought nah we must have it this time and nope we didnt, I voted every election after but with none of that gusto from '92 except for this year

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 16/05/2017 13:48

I remember being bloody amazed that Kinnock lost we really thought this was it as the tories were in disarray and major and his soap box seemed ludicrous.

I think there was a degree of anti Welsh feeling to be honest.

Anyway I still think it's a stretch to think parties pay posters and even if they do there are equal anti May anti Corbyn threads on here just look.

I'm aware that people like this exist on parts of the web but can't think of many instances on Mumsnet.

The fact that people can't agree on which side it is that is behind the "paid" posts is quite telling. If your Facebook page is full of mainly pro-Corbyn or pro-May posts and then you come on Mumsnet and find a lot of people are very anti-Corbyn or anti-May then it can be instinctive to think that something fishy is going on at Mumsnet, rather than that most of us mainly exist in bubbles of like-minded people.

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 16/05/2017 14:05

I miss the mother and child parking threads and deadly cat poo. Bloody politics

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 16/05/2017 14:05

I would like to apply for one of these jobs please. I can even pretend that I like Theresa May if the money's right and I can type strong and stable pretty fast, so I'd be perfect for your campaign.

ExplodedCloud · 16/05/2017 14:08

It was a grim evening. Friends were doing election night but I was away with work. I thought I'd be missing a party. And then...

They played the "Well allllllllriiiiiiight" thing that Kinnock did on the radio the other day. Made me squirm with misery.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 16/05/2017 14:09

In seriousness, I think there are a lot of Corbyn supporters (or to use a claig phrase, teenage whizz kids) who are going on forums to post their opinion, but I doubt they're getting paid.

scaryteacher · 16/05/2017 14:11

Claig was very much in evidence during the 2010 election as well. I think it is passion as opposed to payment.

ExplodedCloud · 16/05/2017 14:15

I wish I was a teenage whiźz kid :(

Not really? I can give you examples of both Labour and Conservative employees being caught pulling this kind of thing before.

noblegiraffe · 16/05/2017 14:22

I've seen the line 'lots of teachers vote Tory' trotted out on education threads enough recently to suspect astroturfing.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 16/05/2017 14:24

I've seen the line 'lots of teachers vote Tory'

Lots do though. Just like they probably vote LibDem, SNP, Plaid Cymru, TUSC, SWP even UKIP.

To think they only vote Labour is naive.

NotDavidTennant · 16/05/2017 14:24

I'm sure there are members of different political parties/movements posting in Mumsnet and other parts of the web without being open about who they are.

What is being talked about here though is people being employed specifically to post in internet forums and comments. If you have evidence of that happening in the UK then lets see it.
