Another thread derailed by troll hunters.......

user94567433 · 15/05/2017 09:42

Anyone else sick of threads being derailed by troll hunters?

There is a thread which seems to be genuine, MN have certainly left it up there, but the messages of support are drowned-out by people discussing trolls.

Does anyone else not give a damn what troll hunters believe or don't believe? Can't they just spend their oh-so-important time on whatever they want and leave the rest of us to get on with a thread?

They could become moderators if they like policing things.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, I've never seen anyone troll hunt a thread that didn't turn out to be a troll.

And to be fair it's very frustrating to see page after page of people offering heartfelt advice and personal stories when it's patently obvious the OP is talking a load of crap.

Maudlinmaud · 15/05/2017 11:10

Arf Grin
Those who can spot trolls a mile off should just forget the report button exists and leave the thread. Wonder what will happen then.

Sparklingbrook · 15/05/2017 11:13

Yes lets all just stop reporting anything at all.

Get rid of the trolls and the trollhunters will go too.

The obvious troll posts (and some are very obvious) can be annoying. I don't blame people for pointing that out.

Maudlinmaud · 15/05/2017 11:20

For what it's worth, I did not report this am. I read the op, knew something was off and then saw hqs comment. Lots of people shared experiences. Think about the motivation of that op. Think about it and be disgusted!

Sparklingbrook · 15/05/2017 11:24

How about a Zombie trollhunting thread from 2013 reanimated this morning?

*I'm bored with trolls.

I'm fine with people with GOOD trolldars giving others the heads up.

I'm bored to fuck with dimwits calling troll on threads they simply don't like or understand. Calling troll on an op that's posted under the same names for years is ridiculous.*

Agreed, I think most people who shout 'TROLL' are idiots who don't like the thread.

Not sure about harmless especially as it ran and ran.

I will never agree there's such a thing as a harmless troll. They all damage the site.

BigGrannyPants · 15/05/2017 12:00

I think if people see a trolly post it should just be ignored completely then the trolls don't get what they want and MNers can go back to talking about whatever they were talking about

SumThucker · 15/05/2017 12:07

Trolls annoy me way more than troll hunters.

LagunaBubbles · 15/05/2017 12:16

Troll threads are very rarely of a harmless topic

They may seem harmless but Im guessing it may just be a build up to something else, either on that thread or something worse in the future? I got really annoyed by cake troll because as a cake decorator it really annoys me people stealing other peoples pictures and pretending they are their own.

Sparklingbrook · 15/05/2017 12:23

When I joined MN in 2011 I had no idea people would make stuff up. Got totally sucked in by a thread by a poster called DanSnowboss. They were about to date their boss and they posted outfits for us to choose from and would even update MN from the bathroom of his very swish apartment. All very fast moving and we all clamoured for the next exciting instalment, when they were clothes shopping in Bicester.
Then all of a sudden gone Shock All made up. Shock

Obviously if that was posted now I would be eye rolling inwardly and hitting report.

Once I knew, then I finely tuned my radar for the future.

I'm new here, when I was very new I got taken in by a poster who needed finacial help, that happened because I wasn't savvy in the ways of how the internet works, ie people not being who they say they are. That experience made me learn hard and fast but not quickly enough as it happens because stupidly it almost happened again. What stopped it happening where people posting on the thread in what you could call a troll hunter fashion.

Sparklingbrook · 15/05/2017 12:58

It was brilliant Navy, I was so happy for her and getting to choose her outfits and everything. Sad Grin

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 15/05/2017 13:02

We need a few pissing about threads.

Or a rewind of Hully's bus thread. I think I enjoyed the sheer outrage even more than the premise and point (which I agreed with).

Maybe 'MumsnetLite' ?
