To ask how you wash your 'bits'

I'm not using the word 'bits' as some vague twee-ery to describe my vulva, I mean, everything under your knickers.

But I've got to 38 years old and suddenly wonder if the way I do it is the established norm (spurred on by recently hearing about douches and various online comments about how soap should never do much as touch your undercarriage).

For me: I always shower (bath about one a year), wet whole area (externally) wash external area with mild soap (including mons pubis, groins and bum crack), then using hand held part of shower rinse including rinsing inside a bit (vulva not vagina). So although I don't actively soap my vulva I use mildly soapy water to cleanse it. Then rinse well.

So far it's worked for me, my 'bits' are not prone to infection, but am I doing it all wrong? Should I be avoiding any water/vulva contact at all?

Napalm.

Hope that helps.

MyheartbelongstoG · 14/05/2017 11:57

More often than my bra.

OhWotIsItThisTime · 14/05/2017 11:57

Gynae I saw recommended sls-free aqueous cream. Obviously, like most women, I use WD40 and a pumice stone.

HappyAxolotl · 14/05/2017 12:01

Just water. Nothing else needed.

picklemepopcorn · 14/05/2017 12:03

I remove mine and pop them through the dishwasher cycle.

styledilemma · 14/05/2017 12:05

AUTOGYNEPHILE ALERT

CaoN, what is that?
Don't want to google it in case all sorts of nasties turn up.

MyheartbelongstoG · 14/05/2017 12:05

I get my bits wet then wash it with soap, scrub the hair with my nails actually then I do my arse minus the scratching, then rinse. Then do the rest of my body then repeat wash down below.

I use soap on the inside too.

When I'm rinsing I change the setting on my shower to jet wash and then give it a final rinse using water that is a little hotter so it gets everything out.

If I'm on my period it's vile what comes out with a jet wash!!

Kpo58 · 14/05/2017 12:07

I miss having a bidet. If I ever get a house with a large enough bathroom, I am so going to buy one.

Honeyandfizz · 14/05/2017 12:07
Hmm
NotTheBelleoftheBall · 14/05/2017 12:07

I'd guess:

Auto = self
Gynea = women's sexual organs
Phile = lover

Basically suggesting I love my own sexual organs. I mean, they've been very useful, but to LOVE them might be going a bit 'vagina monologues'

I douse it in petrol and set it on fire.

C8H10N4O2 · 14/05/2017 12:08

I use WD40 and a pumice stone

Oh me too, but I find too much WD40 causes the pumice to slip a bit so I use rubber gloves to apply.

Kpo58 · 14/05/2017 12:09

Was going to add, how do people wash their bits if they have a fixed shower head?

That's what the handstands are for.

NotTheBelleoftheBall · 14/05/2017 12:09

TheQuestingVole that was my next question! Is petrol definitely better than diesel?

AnyFucker · 14/05/2017 12:10

Oooh , all us laydeez together talking about our bits. Heartwarming stuff.

TheCatOfAthenry · 14/05/2017 12:10

OP, they're suggesting you're a man who gets off on thinking of yourself as a woman.

I think it's a perfectly reasonable question. I get asked it as a doctor and can see how someone might ask for opinions from other women.

What you do sounds fine.

Terfing · 14/05/2017 12:11

Squirt of febreze and a dust once-a-month

thesunpeeksthrough · 14/05/2017 12:12

With fixed shower heads I have to wash soap away with my hands.

Justaboy · 14/05/2017 12:14

Well this is what I use;!

MerryMarigold · 14/05/2017 12:15

I like a bit of tea tree shower gel. Gives it a healthy, clean burn. (Not an sm freak honest, just like the sensation). Never wash inside. Jet wash on period sounds hideous.

VladmirsPoutine · 14/05/2017 12:15

Why are people getting so angsty about a perfectly reasonable question? Hmm

haveacupoftea · 14/05/2017 12:15

You mean you're supposed to wash them? Shock

styledilemma · 14/05/2017 12:16

OP, they're suggesting you're a man who gets off on thinking of yourself as a woman.

Or, a man who's desperate to be seen as a woman, but lacks the insight to realize that normal women don't go around discussing how they 'wash their bits' of a Sunday morning.
Such a lot to learn.
