Cost like a million pounds a night and the only highlight is you get to look at the most disgusting river ?

The river isn't the only part of the view - and the view isn't the only part of the experience. The location of the Shard is phenomenal for people visiting London - it's super easy to reach most of the iconic London tourist attractions. On top of this the Shangri-La hotel group are lovely, luxury hotels.

Yep that's right, the only thing we have to look at in London is a dirty old puddle called the Thames, there is literally nothing else here

Where are you from OP? Are you jealous you can't afford a night at the Shard?

I live near the Thames outside London and it's beautiful, certainly not a 'disgusting river'.

YABU. We stayed a couple of years ago and loved it. £500 a night and if people can afford it, why not?

I want to know the cheapest way to go up the shard! (hopefully less than a million). Mayve an afternoon tea package or something!!!

I'd so stay in it if we had a higher income. Unfortunately 500 is our family holiday budget!!

You can buy a ticket to the viewing level it's about £25. There's a great Travelodge at Covent Garden , book far in advance for cheapest rate.

Ive had medical appointments London v nearby so often go past it and want to go in!!

@CountryCaterpillar The trick with the View from the Shard is to prebook - turning up on the day is double the price I believe.

You can also go and eat in one of the six restaurants [one of which I don't recommend] or have a drink at the bar. Saying that there are other options for good views of London too, some of which are free.

I went when it first opened. Gorgeous view, great room and the bar right at the top serves fab cocktails. The only thing that let it down was the breakfast, very poor service for a Shangri-la.

Anyhoo, to answer your question. Yes, YABU. We can spend our hard earned money on whatever we like. And we like swanky hotels thanks

If you want to go up the shard for the view don't bother paying for the viewing platform, go to one of the restaurants. We used to live within 5 minutes walking distance of the shard and have been for dinner and cocktails a few times. You can get a nice meal for around £25 per person if you chose the cheaper options and just one course or pay £10 per head and just go for cocktails at Oblix. Nicer atmosphere than the viewing area, live music nice decor etc. It's not as high up but the view is still amazing.

My friend stayed at the Shard night before her wedding and her wedding night. Said it was worth every penny. They didn't have a honeymoon though.

Love looking down over London from a great height, but prefer brunch at the the Duck and Waffle up the Heron Tower, especially on a sunny Sunday. Not cheap, but reasonable value for decent quality food and views.

I'd love to stay there, but I'd be too nervous to sleep that high up! Not sure I could tolerate that lift many times either

I've stayed the weekend there and work just round the corner. It's fabulous.

I love London and am proud of our capital city so could stare at the view for hours.

Lemon- or they work in marketing for Shangri-La and it's worked out exactly as they planned.

If that's the case, dumbledores , then I shall make the point that there are loads of great places in London where you can oversee the city - centre point, sushi samba, sky gardens (to name but a few).

SheSaidHeSaid You got there before me. The view from the Sky Gardens is comparable and totally free. You just have to prebook in advance (and weekend slots go fast).
