Yeah, you're right - enough of this shadow-boxing. Roll on June 8 for what people really think of all this stuff.

Oh for fucks sake. I am not a Tory. I will note vote them. This does not mean I will necessarily vote for Corbyn. I do not believe he will follow through on the manifesto if elected, it all looks lovely but is it achievable? (I plan on attempting the sums over the weekend to see how feasible it is).

I don't know how I'll vote. I will wait for the info and visits from the local candidates as it's important to know what they'll do to serve the community. Just because I dislike Corbyn doesn't mean I get my info from right wing press. Believe it or not, people have different opinions and values. Talking to people as if they're idiots won't change their minds!

"30 free hours in my area from this September."

Subsidised by providers and parents because the Government won't fund it properly. Many providers will not offer it at all and lots are going out of business because of it.
Let's see if it's in their manifesto this time around, shall we?

Why should those earning over £80k be taxed even more because they worked hard to do well in life and get a good job?!
No i don't earn anywhere near that before you ask, but i work with a lot of people who do and they bloody deserve it, they trained hard for years, sat lots of exams and now they work hard.

wasonthelist · 11/05/2017 15:57

I love the threats to "get up and leave"

Yeah, me too. I have a pal from school who runs his own business - he was banging on about fucking off to Spain to run it if we voted for Brexit. There is zero chance of this actually happening, not least as he doesn't speak a word of Spanish and has no customers there. The again, his primary reason for encouraging us to vote remain was so we could join (what he said was) the shorter queue in passport control.

I'm for Yvette Cooper style Labour.

I think Yvette would have been an excellent choice

ExplodedCloud · 11/05/2017 16:18

Yvette Cooper was too close (obviously) to Ed Balls though. The media would have had a field day there too.

Anon213 · 11/05/2017 17:56

How bad does Labour have to lose before JC will resign?

Just watched Labour saying a bad deal with the EU was better than no deal. Great so if JC was negotiating with them he is admitting he would accept a bad deal.

That's as stupid as building a nuclear weapon then telling your enemies you would never use it, no matter what.

Labour politicians are just a shambles. [facepalm]

Justanotherlurker · 11/05/2017 18:01

I just don't see Trident as necessary anymore , we are a tiny island that nobody in the world really cares about, can't see where our enemies are. We don't have an empire anymore, also I would rather we put as much difference between ourselves and the US as possible just now.

That logic doesn't add up, we will become more dependant on America as protective power if we do scrap trident, not to mention the loss of jobs/R&D that bleeds into other fields.

It's a nice thing to want in theory, but the nuclear cat is out of the bag now, that's before we get into the situation that the labour party don't and would never scrap it anyway.

TessTube · 11/05/2017 18:19

Any deal is better than no deal.

The Bank of England haven't prepared for no deal.

No matter what the May Bot tells you.

Nor does she need a bigger mandate to negotiate. Bullshit.

She's playing a blinder though feeding all the shite to the Brexit folk.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 11/05/2017 18:22

Gosh, I hate the Tories, but posts like yours OP make me want to vote for them.

Yes to nuclear weapons. Yes to immigration targets. No to free insulation for veterans. No to more rights for Roma.

Slarti · 11/05/2017 18:44

Spending billions on weapons = fine
Going into costly wars = fine
Giving the Queen a pay rise and decorating her palace = fine
Giving hundreds of billions away in tax breaks to be funnelled off shore = fine
Giving your children health care and education = "who's gonna pay for that!"

What a horrible place this country has become. I genuinely feel sorry for the generations who will follow us.

FastForward2 · 11/05/2017 20:19

Yes we should all vote labour Smile. They won't win so nothing to lose.

Leaking this manifesto is a shrewd move. Again, they won't win so nothing to lose. Their ideas will now be open to discussion and hopefully get taken on. Theresa has already taken the idea of capping utility bills.

I see it as a list of aspirations, in the same way Theresas has an aspiration to limit migration to a level they have already failed to meet twice. There is no way labour will do all of this stuff, anyone who expects any party to do everything in the manifesto is deluded.

Corbyn appears shambolic but is more trustworthy than Boris and co., imho, who have irresponsibly got us into a rediculous mess with Brexit.

SeaWitchly · 11/05/2017 20:33

Who funds all this? Don't say high earners because that will push them all out of the uk

Yeah, they will all leave on the next private jet to Switzerland Grin

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 11/05/2017 20:35

A shrewd move Confused

May could hardly contain her glee at Labours shambolic handling of the situation

Of course it's being talked about but what also is being talked about is who is behind the leak Corbyn, someone who doesn't support him, someone in his team

That's isn't good for Labour it plays into the shambles narrative

Rhayader · 11/05/2017 20:36

I'm not sure how raising corporation tax from 19% to 26% and increasing the minimum wage to £10 an hour will encourage businesses to invest in the UK.

I currently pay all of my after tax salary into tax and childcare which costs more than 30K a year. Presumably my childcare fees will go up because of the increase in minimum wage and the fact the manifesto calls for nurseries to be graduate lead... My salary would then be LESS than my childcare and then I wouldn't be able to afford to work.

We live off DHs high salary and in order for labour to collect the amount of money they say they would from the tax increase on people earning over 80K, they need to create a new 60% tax band for over 80K. This would mean that your salary just over 100K would be taxed marginally at 80%!! this is insane. DH would be paying so much more tax that we wouldn't be able to afford to stay in our flat in the London suburbs without going into debt every month because house prices are so high.

We would have no choice but to leave the country or for him to quit his job. I don't think many high earners will stick around. The top 1% already pay 27% of all income tax. It wont take many people in our situation leaving to mean that the lofty figures that Labour say they will raise will be diminished to nothing.

Maxandrubyrubyandmax · 11/05/2017 20:36

No because labour seem to have the economic sense of your average 2 year old. Increase taxes for those who at the moment probably buy quite a few "luxury goods" and pay 20per cent vat on them, the business who sells the goods pays tax and the people that business employs pats tax. Increase the taxes of the wealthy and this money goes from the economy. It's probably not dissimilar amounts just different pots. Striking train staff are a pain in the arse (as is anyone on stike) people have lost their jobs as they can't get to work. Tge Roma operate outside of society by and large what other rights without responsibility does jezza fancy handing over? Scrap nuclear weapons??? Have you notice North Korea? Where's the money coming from to buy all the shares in the companies that have long since pritavised??? Jezza (who I highly suspect leaked the manifesto so his MPs couldn't vote against a return to 1973) is quite frankly so ideologically driven he can't listen to reason

Justanotherlurker · 11/05/2017 20:37

If you see the UK/World as simple as that, then no wonder you have a hard time grasping geo politics and can brush it off as "horrible"

Anon213 · 11/05/2017 20:47

Can we please stop putting down 2 year olds.

JC doesn't have to pay for the companies he is nationalising he can just send the army in to seize them. We can literally own Amazon and google.
