Why don't crumpets come in an 8 pack?

Six is just daft. Four crumpets is a sensible serving. But then you're left with two stragglers.

Is it a ploy to make us buy two packs? I think it's well shifty.

Well I know what I'm having for supper tonight....

MrsHathaway · 10/05/2017 16:35

You can get pikelets in our Morrisons. Also Staffordshire oatcakes which look like big crepes Confused

PeanutButterCheesecake · 10/05/2017 16:40

Someone told me once to put honey on my crumpets. I did. It was bloody horrible.

minipie · 10/05/2017 16:41

Lemon curd is very very good though

Spuddington · 10/05/2017 16:45

Staffordshire oatcakes don't seem so strange when you live there Grin

UnicornPug · 10/05/2017 17:00

My husband cuts crumpets in half. It's terribly distressing but he won't be told. Sad

VerySadInside · 10/05/2017 17:04

4 is a huge portion!
1 for breakfast or 2 for a big breakfast/lunch is the norm surely? Especially given that they have to have half a kilo of butter and cheese melted on each one.

1 muffin is a portion, 2 halves.

Okite · 10/05/2017 17:09

We are a family of 5 who all love crumpets. Even with 2 each as a serving, no one sells a pack big enough for us. I always buy several packets at once with the intention of putting the extra ones in the freezer, but they get eaten before they get that far

MrsHathaway · 10/05/2017 17:13

What are you meant to do with them? Treat as crepes or as oatcakes? Hot or cold? I just don't knoooooooow.

We are not in Staffs but not a million miles away.

AlliHearMumMuumMuuuum · 10/05/2017 17:15

Oooh I want crumpets now...withs lots of butter...texting DH now to grab after work Grin

But Oatcakes are amaaazing!! The ones that the supermarkets are shite though...cant beat fresh ones made from an Oatcake shop hot with bacon, sausage and cheese on a Sunday morning.... drooling on fone

MongerTruffle · 10/05/2017 17:16

Crumpets are a breakfast food surely?

AlliHearMumMuumMuuuum · 10/05/2017 17:17

with ones that the supermarket sell Blush bloody thumbs getting excited for food

iklboo · 10/05/2017 17:21

DS & I have Secret Crumpet Club. Sometimes when DH is working in the evening DS & I will go up to bed with hot buttered crumpets, he has a hot chocolate & we cuddle and watch tv.

tooyoungat40 · 10/05/2017 18:05

I have to make my bloody own. Curse you husband for moving us overseas. I make 24 at a time. They just disappear!

TheExuberant1 · 10/05/2017 22:31

I will only eat Warburtons, I don't think the supermarkets brands cut it on the crumpet front.

TheExuberant1 · 10/05/2017 22:32

Oh and I only have 2 per serving with eggs on top.

SquidgeyMidgey · 10/05/2017 22:35

DCs like the square crumpets that Sainsbury's make. I hate all crumpets, the soft bit in the middle makes me feel sick.

hennaoj · 10/05/2017 22:38

Gluten free ones always come in packs of 4, not matter what brand they are. Quite handy as only my eldest and myself are the coeliacs in this house.

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 10/05/2017 22:42

See, if you have three topped with butter and poached eggs, that's enough for a meal. Then you've another meal.

Co-op do AMAZING buttermilk sourdough crumpets (and I know how incredibly middleclass that makes me sound!)

Magicpaintbrush · 10/05/2017 22:46

I was having one lonely crumpet for brekkie whilst on my diet but recently it crept back up to two and I was feeling guilty - but after reading this thread it turns out 2 is the norm so now I am happy to stuff my face with double crumpet deliciousness, hurrah! Grin

Crumpets with peanut butter are the best possible combo.

Floppy crumpets are an abomination.

AdaColeman · 10/05/2017 22:59

Sainsburys TTD crumpets are the best, thick and sturdy, not thin and floppy like other brands.
I usually just have one at a time, with tea about 11ish, lashings of butter of course, it's criminal to cut them in half!! [tea]

Occasionally I make an eggy crumpet to go with bacon.

IrregularCommentary · 10/05/2017 23:00

I should not have read this at late night snack time Sad

A crumpet serving is 3 crumpets: one drenched in butter, one with marmite and cheese (toasted), and one with butter and jam.

Man I want crumpets.

Schlobbob · 10/05/2017 23:08

Warburtons crumpets are the best - tesco do them in 6 and found them in waitrose as a pack of 8, that was much better!

DH and I have crumpets with Greek yoghurt, cooked fruit (mixed frozen berries with mixed spice) and a drizzle of honey. Most amazing breakfast ever and keeps me full until lunchtime

Found it in a hairy dieters cookbook but our version is less diety than theirs!!

Binkybix · 10/05/2017 23:14

My DH (native to Staffs) was shocked to his core when he saw the price of oatcakes in Borough market. This was before they were in supermarkets and hard to track down.

2 crumpets is a portion. Love the dipping them in eggs idea :)

PralineCake123 · 10/05/2017 23:38

Quite sure I buy a warburtons 9 pack! I usually freeze on day of purchase and then wrestle the frozen fuckers apart when needed. I'd never ever eat more than 2 in one sitting! Crumpets with chocolate spread....yum!
