As the impartial CPS will not be charging any candidates for alleged electoral fraud, yet this was what many said was the reason for May's calling an election.

I always thought that the election was for a strong mandate going into the negotiations with Brussels. I assume that everyone must now.

Where exactly did you say it was May's religion you were talking about? if you explain that, I will apologise.

Orlantina · 10/05/2017 15:17

I do wonder what Jesus would make of our world.
Where our Christian leaders get upset over a chocolate firm and the National Trust not mentioning Easter.
Where children live in poverty and go hungry.
Where wealth is so unevenly spread.
Where we spend a fortune on weapons.

I do wonder what he would say to leaders who claim to be Christian.

somerville

Sorry if I offended or hurt you in some way. And sorry this thread made you think of all the tough time you have gone through. You are a lovely person. Flowers

Somerville · 10/05/2017 15:22

My first post was linking the biblical teachings about the vulnerable that May professes to believe/esteem/follow and the actions of her government in cutting benefits massively to those groups. Other posters have understood that so I don't think I was unclear, OP.

I've tried to engage with you properly OP but your responses show you don't really give a damn. I don't know if that's because you're too blinkered by your bias, or if this is an act to give Tories even more of a bad name. (If the latter, then well played old chap! If the former - I've had enough of you now.)

Orlantina · 10/05/2017 15:24

Cameron discussed his faith and Theresa May has made a big thing of her faith.

I fail to see her faith in action when I see the way this country is. But I suppose it's much easier to talk about being religious than putting things into practice.

Somerville · 10/05/2017 15:28

Valentine I didn't read anything offensive from you.
Thanks for being nice. Smile

Sostenueto · 10/05/2017 15:35

Haven't you heard? Teresa May is bringing fox hunting back....on the news this morning. Apparently she said she liked sport.

Sostenueto · 10/05/2017 15:38

I reckon May had a lot of faith when she thought she could pull off eating a bag of chips as if it was something she has done before. Sorry but her God let her down.

forfuckssakenet · 10/05/2017 15:47

I hate Tories. A lot.

kimann · 10/05/2017 16:11

just wondering - is mumsnet mildly left-wing? I only ask because there seem to be a lot of posters/posts who hate the tories? not many posts about how great the other political parties are either.

Summary of findings

The Commission found that

There was no evidence that the Party’s spending return for the 2014 European Parliamentary election was incomplete
It is likely that expense returns delivered by Party candidates at three Parliamentary by-elections during 2014 understated the value of the Party’s spending on their campaigns

On three instances in 2014, relating to the said three Parliamentary by-elections, Mr Day as registered treasurer failed to ensure that the Party’s accounting records were sufficient to adequately show and explain the Party’s transactions with the candidates and/or their agents, as required by section 41 of PPERA

The Party’s 2015 UK Parliamentary General Election spending return was not a complete statement of its campaign spending payments, as required by section 80(3) of PPERA. Mr Day had included payments that were not Party campaign spending and omitted other Party campaign payments

The Party’s 2015 UK Parliamentary General Election spending return also failed to include all the required invoices and receipts associated with the Party’s campaign spending that were required by section 80(3) of PPERA. The Commission has also referred one matter relating to section 83(3) of PPERA to the Metropolitan Police Service. Section 83(3) required the Party’s treasurer to declare that he has examined the return and that to the best of his knowledge and belief, the return was complete and correct as required by law. A declaration to that effect was delivered alongside its spending return

The investigation established that the Party’s general election return was neither complete nor correct, and the evidence gathered during the course of the investigation has given the Commission reason to suspect that an offence may have been committed. Knowingly or recklessly making a false declaration under this section of the Act is a criminal offence and falls outside the remit of the Commission’s civil sanctioning powers. It will be a matter for the police as to what steps they take following the Commission’s referral

Not being charged ain't the same as not being guilty. Whether it was cock-up or fraud, it shows the Conservative Party to be either incompetent or criminal, OP. Which interpretation would you prefer?

Besides, your original point was a straw man. Nobody with any intelligence seriously thought it her the prime reason for calling an election. She's doing it in hope of decimating the Labour Party and, thus, being able to push through legislation and Brexit without opposition.

Much good it will do her. She's playing a poor hand badly and the people who voted for Brexit won't forgive her when prices and inflation start to rip. Similarly, her 'mandate' won't cut any ice with the EU. They'll simply point to their 'mandate' of 500+ million people.

Like you, she needs to be wiser and more careful about what she wishes for. Still, having said all that, I expect her grammar and punctuation is better than yours. A small mercy if she's drawing up future legislation...

nachogazpacho · 10/05/2017 16:32

I don't think she knew what the outcome would be, so it could still be one of the reasons. Along with attempting to speed up the destruction of labour perhaps. I think they have a good chance of winning the election and taking down labour whilst they're at it.

Personally I think it's a very sad state of affairs. I would like politics to move with the times. It reminds me of dodgy 80s salesmen. We prefer fact based honesty but politicians hide behind rhetoric to gain more votes.

It's very upsetting that all the social building done after the devastation and leveling of the second world war is now being destroyed. It's OK to protect your assets but it is fundamentally wrong to do it when you're robbing many of their potential future assets or the little they have to increase your own assets. I think many tory voters want to protect what they have but are standing with people who ultimately don't believe others should have the opportunity to gain. I know tm says she wants opportunity for all but that is not what taking down the education system or the NHS will do. It's rhetoric. Watching her bullshitting in an enquiry the other night she is perfectly capable of talking bs to get what she and her fellow tories want.

Sostenueto · 10/05/2017 17:17

The Great Repeal Bill will be pushed through and all Mays far right wing policies will get through. But to ensure they get through she had to destroy the labour party and she had been planning an election for a while and picked now as the moment. The EU is not bothered about her mandate or any other leaders mandate because there is a law in the EU that forbids the common people of all European nations having a say in EU policies. So Mays majority is of no consequence whatsoever in any negotiations.

Sostenueto · 10/05/2017 17:22

PS I do not hate Tory voters they can vote, hold opinions do what they like as long as they allow the same courtesy to others and remember folks we are ALL equal whatever background or his much money you have or not or how well your educated or not we are all the same and EQUAL.

olliegarchy99 · 11/05/2017 13:57

sost
TM is not bringing back foxhunting - do get your facts right.
the re-visit of the law (which was pushed through by labour in 2004) was in the conservative 2015 manifesto.
It will be a free vote and every MP will have their own view on foxhunting and vote accordingly. The bill could well be rejected.
You ask for courtesy by Conservative supporters - read the other thread on foxhunting and see how much of your much requested courtesy is on display there.
the labour/libdem supporters on MN absolutely hate and revile anyone who does not follow their ideology. At least Conservative supporters are polite in their disagreements with those of the opposite persuasion. Hmm

HashiAsLarry · 11/05/2017 14:00

😂😂😂
Thanks, I needed a massive laugh today.

Snotgobbler99 · 11/05/2017 14:47

the labour/libdem supporters on MN absolutely hate and revile anyone who does not follow their ideology

Possibly, but they probably have a better understanding of the meaning of ideology. The idea that all Labour and Lib Dem supporters hold precisely the same ideology is laughable.

Unless, of course, you believe that all leftist ideologies are the same? If so, one might argue that all right-wing ideologies are the same and, ipso facto, you're definitely a nazi....

Semantics: A form of logical argument with which some Conservative supporters have difficulty.

Sieg Heil! Ollie!
