AIBU wondering what the Tory-haters have to say

As the impartial CPS will not be charging any candidates for alleged electoral fraud, yet this was what many said was the reason for May's calling an election.

I always thought that the election was for a strong mandate going into the negotiations with Brussels. I assume that everyone must now.

so the law found no case to answer and YET still you all bleat that there was something illegal going on.

I think some people are a bit unclear as to what today's announcements mean. The Tories were found guilty of breaking electoral law. That's why they were fined. Today's announcement was the CPS saying that they couldn't prove whether it was done deliberately.

NoLoveofMine · 10/05/2017 13:10

As I understand it the Conservative Party broke electoral law but the CPS deemed it'd be difficult to prove/not in the public interest to try to prove that individual MPs/candidates knowingly broke the law.

WyfOfBathe · 10/05/2017 13:10

May could win every seat and doesn't change the negotiating position a single jot
This. Do you think that the EU really care how many seats May has in the British parliament? It won't change negotiations at all.

And given I don't believe that the Conservatives actually have a crystal ball, and so won't have known in advance what the CPS would decide, I still believe that it was a factor in choosing to call an election.

ProudConservative · 10/05/2017 13:11

Squoosh

I'm not sure you're in a position to be correcting people's posts! Have your own posts back?

peoples' and have I [what] my own posts back?

I'm sure there's some kind of cosmic balance where if you correct someone's grammar or spelling, your doomed to make a mistake in the post Smile

In that sentence of mine you quoted, the subject was omitted with proper use of ellipsis and parenthetical information denoted by commas. Nothing wrong with it.

We're getting derailed here though!

@Somerville

The Prime Minister should be embarrassed to call herself a Christian.

Anyone should be embarrassed to call themselves Christian although I can see that if you hate someone it could be a useful insult.

OP posts:
squoosh · 10/05/2017 13:13

peoples'

No dear, it's 'people's'

Somerville · 10/05/2017 13:13

Interesting that that is the part of my post you choose to respond to.

squoosh · 10/05/2017 13:14

'In that sentence of mine you quoted, the subject was omitted with proper use of ellipsis and parenthetical information denoted by commas. Nothing wrong with it.'

The sentence I quoted was incomprehensible.

I refer you again to my sherry advice. Hope it helps.

HashiAsLarry · 10/05/2017 13:17

The CPS cannot find sufficient evidence that the MPs themselves have deliberately committed fraud. This doesn't mean there was no fraud.

The electoral commission found the Tories guilty and fined them, and they accepted this. This does however prove there was fraud.

Hence the screaming to get rid of the electoral commission. The people who did their job correctly.

Girls girls depart in peace not pieces as my dm used to say while dsis and I had a fight Grin

Well, quite!

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 10/05/2017 13:26

The Conservative party has been found guilty of election offences. Please don't pretend they have been exonerated as they have not been.

I am not a 'hater' but I'm very unhappy about the way the Conservative party has gamed the election spending rules. The party centrally given't given a fig for the local agents and candidates when they broke the rules with such abandon.

ProudConservative · 10/05/2017 13:26

If you found it incomprehensible then I suggest you take your own sherry-drinking advice.

Not sure why you're so intent on derailing the thread though.

Er, says the poster who initially derailed the thread.

Jupitar · 10/05/2017 13:33

My 86 year old mum recently left hospital after breaking her hip and has been given no care support at all due to none being available so has to rely on me and her neighbours for cooking her dinner and shopping and washing. But a nurse was available to come and speak to her for 2 hours to talk about her signing a DNR she refused, and after me complaining to the doctor about this another nurse turned up to do an assessment (though still no care) and she admitted they now have targets for how many people they can sign up to DNR.
Do I hate the Tory government, bloody right I do 😡

YokoReturns · 10/05/2017 13:35

Why do Tories I've never seen before on here keep starting goady threads?

ProudConservative · 10/05/2017 13:44

I did send you a message Yoko, asking if I was allowed to start a thread but when you didn't reply I went ahead anyway.

Sorry.

I'm interested in why you think it is a goady thread though? When TM called the election, many people on MN said that it was due to the electoral fraud investigation. I was and am interested in what they think now. I wasn't looking for people to post all over again why they don't like the Conservative Party but rather what they thought of this specific and breaking news.

OP posts:
JacquesHammer · 10/05/2017 13:46

My opinion as to why TM called a general election hasn't changed. I think it was in part due to the suggestion of electoral fraud. Which they haven't been exonerated of.

Sostenueto · 10/05/2017 13:50

Never mind just think of all those extra Tory votes after seeing May with her husband on the one show talking about her shoes. Quite appropriate I suppose as may would like to grind every working class and poor person under her heels. Then she can go for a jolly fox hunt which would be a perfect ending to her day.

Orlantina · 10/05/2017 13:51

Either the tories were incompetent in not declaring the expenses properly or it was a deliberate tactic.

Somerville · 10/05/2017 13:52

Why a goady thread? Where to start

  • It is in AIBU rather than politics.
  • Tory-haters in title
  • 'Do keep up dear'
  • Your attempt at pedentry.

HTH

kirinm · 10/05/2017 13:52

Will the fact the IMF have come out and confirmed Labour's proposed policies add up financially change anyone's mind? Nope, of course it won't.

The Tories haven't even set out their policies let alone how they intend to fund them other than the fox hunting but that's irrelevant. They don't need to because they're 'good with the economy' 🙄

kirinm · 10/05/2017 13:54

Sorry, wrong thread!

BreakWindandFire · 10/05/2017 14:02

so the law found no case to answer and YET still you all bleat that there was something illegal going on.

No the Tories have been found guilty of election fraud and were fined £70,000 - the maximum amount. They accepted this at the time (March this year).

The CPS agrees with this earlier finding but has decided that the lines of responsibility were so diffused no person at a constituency level can be held individually and personally criminally responsible.

ProudConservative · 10/05/2017 14:03

@Somerville

You began the pedantry. I said I found it hard to read sentences with a full stop after every word.

There are 8 other political threads on the first page of AIBU. Are they goady?

Having been called a colossal idiot, an idiot and a chump, I think calling someone 'dear' is fine.

Many here have ignored my post and simply said why they do hate the Tories. I don't think anyone except perhaps you (disingenuously?) thinks that the term is goady.

HTH

@Sostenueto

Then she can go for a jolly fox hunt which would be a perfect ending to her day.

You do know that fox hunting is illegal, right?

It's naive to think we get 'to negotiate with Brussels'. We get to leave the EU. That's it. There's no fucking British Empire Brucie Bonus for inventing Bertie Wooster.
