Dd is in year 4. This year teacher decided that the class pet will be given out only on holidays and half term, and it will be given to the child who is traveling somewhere exciting.
Dd is now desperate to go somewhere sunny as the little bunny would like a sunny place for the summer half term Angry.
When she first told me the rule i was a bit Hmm. But now am getting really annoyed at the idea that the teacher is even telling them thats your last chance who is going somewhere sunny to get the pet.
I feel i should talk to the teacher and let him know that i feel that is really unfair and stressful.

If you are flying somewhere it is going to be bloody difficult to take a rabbit.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 09/05/2017 19:31

Er, what?!Confused

Are you serious? They cart this bunny around like a piece of bloody holiday luggage?!

Yeah, it is unfair and stressful OP. On the BUNNY.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 09/05/2017 19:31

Who the fuck takes the class pet on holiday?

SecretNetter · 09/05/2017 19:32

What's the point in giving it to a child going on holiday? Who the heck wants to take a rabbit on holiday?

PeaFaceMcgee · 09/05/2017 19:32

It is totally unfair and misses the whole point behind the exercise.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 09/05/2017 19:32

It's got to be a teddy and not a real bunny, I bet you anything.

dancemom · 09/05/2017 19:32

Class teddy?

BrieAndChilli · 09/05/2017 19:32

This is very unfair as
A - it's not possible for everyone to have a go as only 6 holidays/hAlft terms a year
B- it is discriminatory to children who's parents do not have he money to take them somewhere 'exciting and sunny' so not only do the rich kids get a nice holiday they also get the bunny, where the poor kids get it rubbed in that they do not have an exiting enough life.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 09/05/2017 19:32

I bloody hope so Moo!

ZilphasHatpin · 09/05/2017 19:33

So basically the well off kids are the only ones who will get the pet home. Nice.

Rkd808 · 09/05/2017 19:33

Sounds like the stupidest rule, who would want a rabbit to spend hours in a hot car or take it over seas ( this is assuming it's a real rabbit), it would be much kinder to the rabbit to be kept at the child's home)

WonkoTheSane42 · 09/05/2017 19:33

How are you meant to take a rabbit to the frigging Costa del Sol or whatever?

QueenMortificado · 09/05/2017 19:33

Did your child tell you this or the teacher?! Sounds like something someone would get confused about...?

originalbiglymavis · 09/05/2017 19:33

I'm assuming it's a toy. The oven is nice and hot.

PeaFaceMcgee · 09/05/2017 19:34

Oh hang on - Y4 - you don't mean an actual animal, do you? Or a toy?

BrieAndChilli · 09/05/2017 19:34

And I couldn't even take the class bear swimming without leaving him behind in the changing rooms resulting in having to drive back late at night to hope it was still there! No way am I taking it on holiday!

Graceflorrick · 09/05/2017 19:34

It's a toyRabbit - yes?

HarrietKettleWasHere · 09/05/2017 19:35

But misleading to say 'pet', isn't it OP Hmm

M00nUnit · 09/05/2017 19:35

OP are you talking about an actual pet or are you talking about a cuddly toy?

SlaveToDisney · 09/05/2017 19:35

Please say you mean a stuffed bunny and not a real one?

But yes I would be speaking to the teacher about this surely a more appropriate way of dishing out the bunny is based on behaviour?

Not everyone can afford a holiday to the Bahamas or such like and I'm sure the children that are unable to go on these holidays already receive enough flack for it from their peers (I know I did when I was at school) and now from their teacher too.Hmm

Mysterycat23 · 09/05/2017 19:35

Rubbish, all of the class should be given a turn to take the teddy home. Thought that was the point of a class teddy!

WannaBe · 09/05/2017 19:38

Well, I'd think yourself lucky that you don't have to take the class "pet" home then. Wink fortunately ours never had such things but sounds like my idea of hell... Grin

Consider it a positive move on the part of the teacher to aid parents to save money...

AwaywiththePixies27 · 09/05/2017 19:38

YNBU. Definitely unfair.

DS wanted to take his class toy to flipping everywhere on a week when he won it and I was brassic.

The furthest it got was to the lake to feed the ducks! Grin

M2R2 · 09/05/2017 19:47

Sorry it is the stuffed toy they call it class pet at school

OP posts:
Strikhedonia · 09/05/2017 19:48

please tell me you need a teddy!

It's ridiculous, and I would be very annoyed, I think I'll even complain.
Unless the teacher meant to do something exciting from the kids point of view: building a den in the garden, going on an adventure in the local park, hunting for chocolate in the supermarket. Basically not watching TV for an entire week.

If nothing else, I try to avoid to have any class mascot the week/ holiday we do anything interesting, it's embarrassing otherwise. You look like the show-off parents, so we always keep it so so low key...
