To think this class rule is stupid???

Dd is in year 4. This year teacher decided that the class pet will be given out only on holidays and half term, and it will be given to the child who is traveling somewhere exciting.
Dd is now desperate to go somewhere sunny as the little bunny would like a sunny place for the summer half term Angry.
When she first told me the rule i was a bit Hmm. But now am getting really annoyed at the idea that the teacher is even telling them thats your last chance who is going somewhere sunny to get the pet.
I feel i should talk to the teacher and let him know that i feel that is really unfair and stressful.

No EU? Bear-exit?

loverlybunchofcoconuts · 09/05/2017 21:51

I think you should ask the teacher yourself what she said - it sounds incredibly unlikely that she'd specify that the toy needs to go on long haul holidays! - it seems far more likely that your DC has got the message slightly muddled.

If it turns out that she DID say anything like that, you can tell her that its unfair, and if she doesn't reconsider, I would complain to the Head, but I bet she will say that your DC misunderstood in some way,

M2R2 · 09/05/2017 22:08

Rebelrogue its not a new rule. Was like that since the beginning of the year. Dd was asking if we are going anywhere for every holiday. We normally go in easter or summer as tkts on its own is expensive (we go to our home country) we tend to go for longer.
For this year we decided the summer will be good as will have the newborn for everyone to meet.
What made me talk about it today is the fact that he is telling the kids its the last chance who will be taking it, it must be a nice Sunny country as its the summer break bla bla bla. It feels like he is teasing them.

Why haven't you raised it with the teacher/HT before this? Teasing or not,the rule is bonkers and should've been challenged at the beginning.

M2R2 · 09/05/2017 22:18

Now i feel that i should've done that. Its been a stressful year to be honest and wasn't bothered much. But seeing dd so upset and willing to travel on her own to take it make me sad.

I think it's really important for children to learn that extra privileges go to people who.already have higher privileges...

ilovesooty · 09/05/2017 22:25

I can't believe that either parents or pupils take this seriously in year 4.

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 09/05/2017 22:32

Year 4 and they call a toy bunny the class pet? I had to re-read that she wasn't 4 and in reception.

MrsPinkCock · 09/05/2017 22:36

In fairness, DD had the same class "pet" from reception through to Y6 and was always pleased when she got to take him home.

He had a diary that you had to write in about his weekend escapades.

The amount of parents that gave him a bath and made him sleep in the kitchen was amazing Grin

Scholes34 · 09/05/2017 22:40

But it's more than just taking the bear/bunny away with you. It's an opportnity for a mini project, time to think about what you're doing/where you're going and it doesn't have to be abroad. We did it year 2 camping on the east coast and the Forest of Dean with DC1 and then DC2. By the time we got to DC3 we went to a very posh wedding in New York (taking the bear and the children out of school in term time). Great fun, except my friend's wedding photos all have the bear in them!

Teardropexplodes · 09/05/2017 22:43

I think Mr Bunny's getting a bit entitled. A week down t'coalmine wouldn't go amiss.

YouCantArgueWithStupid · 09/05/2017 22:44

Teacher is blatantly trying to smuggle drugs via Bunny Grin

rightwhine · 09/05/2017 22:58

But hasn't anyone asked the bunny where he would like to go?

Fanciedachange17 · 09/05/2017 23:08

We had the class pet for the summer holidays when I was a child. it was a guinea pig called Tina. Next doors jack Russell broke into the outdoor run and savaged the poor thing. We weren't allowed to have the class pet after that.

Fanciedachange17 · 09/05/2017 23:10

We did replace Tina with another guinea pig but the new one was a different colour. We told the pupils Tina and Tom (the new pig) were cousins and doing an exchange visit. Satisfied most of them.

HeyHoThereYouGo657 · 09/05/2017 23:26

Tell them you are off to Iceland..Then send pic of teddy in a freezer

Grin
LorelaiLeighGilmore · 09/05/2017 23:39

Your DD will get over it. It's a stuffed toy.

FFS

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/05/2017 23:44

That's not the point Lorelei.
Its the fact that this arse hole of a teacher is penalising the children of poor families.
And that 'IS' what she is doing.

LorelaiLeighGilmore · 09/05/2017 23:52

I get that, and it's shit, but the OPs DD won't be traumatised by this long term and I'd like to think most class parents will slate the teacher, hopefully to her face. Stupid rule so OP = yanbu but it's a small thing really.

Dixiestamp · 10/05/2017 02:31

DS was mortified that he had to look after the class teddy for a weekend in year 4; he made his younger sister carry it home and 'look after it'. Fine for KS1, but a bit much at that age!

TrinityTaylor · 10/05/2017 02:34

it will get lost and that will be the end of it all

TrinityTaylor · 10/05/2017 02:39

OR lie... and send a note in with a pic of a beach in Tahiti saying you are off there with dd and newborn for 3 weeks over summer and would bunny like to come and experience the polynesian way of life...then take a pic of bunny on the swings at local park with a can of strongbow and another note saying GET LOST YOU PETTY LITTLE SHIT, BUNNY STAYED AT HOME AND HAD A GRAND OLD TIME, GET A NEW RULE

TrinityTaylor · 10/05/2017 02:39

maybe don't swear if kids will see it Grin

MaryTheCanary · 10/05/2017 02:44

Isn't 9-10 a bit old for this kind of thing?

TitaniasCloset · 10/05/2017 03:31
