To think this class rule is stupid???

Dd is in year 4. This year teacher decided that the class pet will be given out only on holidays and half term, and it will be given to the child who is traveling somewhere exciting.
Dd is now desperate to go somewhere sunny as the little bunny would like a sunny place for the summer half term Angry.
When she first told me the rule i was a bit Hmm. But now am getting really annoyed at the idea that the teacher is even telling them thats your last chance who is going somewhere sunny to get the pet.
I feel i should talk to the teacher and let him know that i feel that is really unfair and stressful.

Tell teacher it's a Brexit bear and so under no circumstances will it be going anywhere forrin, exciting, sunny or otherwise.

Hates class pet

PedantHere · 10/05/2017 05:33

Say that you're going to Kenya, and go to a safari park in the UK as a day trip.

RebelRogue · 10/05/2017 06:48

It's not exactly discriminating against the poor children. There's about 6(hols and half terms in a year. That means out of a class of 30 only 6 kids at most,so the majority of the class is missing out.

Can't quite believe that none of the parents made a fuss about it

flyingpinkduckgirl · 10/05/2017 06:57

If what your dd says is spot on then that's terrible and yes it favours the well off families, however, I wonder if the teacher just said that they had to "take it somewhere exciting/interesting" which dd has interpreted as a holiday abroad?
We get a lot of kids telling us that they stayed in all holiday and played on iPad or Xbox, so she may be trying to encourage kids to get out and about a bit more?

soontobemrsmckeown · 10/05/2017 07:03

My dd was desperate to get her for ages. When she got it, it was the worst weekend every. I was in hospital after having major surgery so the bear only came to the hospital to vist me :(

emmyrose2000 · 10/05/2017 07:04

If this is accurate, the teacher is an idiot.

When I go on holiday I've got enough to worry about trying to keep track of my own paraphernalia, let alone some stupid item belonging to someone else/school. Nor would I waste mine or my child's time writing a report or taking specific photos of the toy on our time off.

Spikeyball · 10/05/2017 07:11

The teacher can't be arsed to chase a missing bunny every week and tried to think of a good way of putting it to the class. Unfortunately it wasn't a good way.

BoboBunnyH0p · 10/05/2017 07:22

A stuffed toy in year 4! Our school stops the nonsense of the class bear at reception (thank goodness).

TheMythOfFingerprints · 10/05/2017 07:31

Fancied omg you might have lived next to me the year I looked after my sister's jack russell.

Sorry about that Blush

Fresta · 10/05/2017 07:44

Their Geography topic for the next half term probably requires some information about hot countries. I guess the teacher is trying to relate the toys journey to class work.

In my opinion Y4s are too old for a class teddy to take home. It's the sort of thing they enjoy in Reception and Nursery.

liz70 · 10/05/2017 09:32

Confused The last time DD3 brought a class cuddly home, she was 4 and in playgroup. Never heard any thing like it in school.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 10/05/2017 09:37

take bunny to iceland

...the shop... Grin

metalmum15 · 10/05/2017 09:49

We only have a class bear in the Infants, it seems a bit young for year 4 children. And the rule is always that every child gets a turn to take it home. I'd just be grateful I didn't have the added worry of losing the precious class bear 2000 miles away. By the time holidays come around, I'm sure your dd will have forgotten all about it.

Tie a helium balloon to its leg and send the bugger into space

Lie and tell the teacher you are going to Thailand or some other such exotic place. Then put a selection of scenes from said place up on your TV or PC screen, with Bunny placed in front of it, and take photos, taking care not to get the edges in, obviously. #genius

M2R2 · 10/05/2017 17:06

Checked with teacher today. It is indeed true who ever is going to holiday get to take the bunny, if more children going at the same time teacher is choosing the more exciting place 🙄

@M2R2 - so did you tell the teacher what a discriminatory and unfair policy this is? Or why he thinks it is fair to give this 'treat' to the children of the best-off parents?

M2R2 · 10/05/2017 19:48

I couldn't discuss it much as it was at pick up time with kids around. Just wanted to make sure am not judging him with dd miss understanding the situation. I said that its not fair and we are only going away in the summer so he cut me saying dd can have it for the summer. I am sure he noticed how surprised i was but it looks like not much children care about it, thats probably why it didn't creat a problem in class.

TheAntiBoop · 10/05/2017 19:57

There's probably only a handful that are bothered so maybe he was planning on letting them each have their turn anyway.

Always odd when the school expect the kids to do something only their parents can control

Cubtrouble · 10/05/2017 22:07

What utter bollocks.

TrinityTaylor · 10/05/2017 23:34

The kids are too old, I think he needs to find a different class "thing" maybe just a diary of the weekend they have to write themselves that gets passed around?
