To hope "twinning" is not a real life thing?

Having a nosey on Instagram and came across a very lovely account where the mum dresses her DC in matching outfits (I.e the same out fit as the mother). It all looks very sweet sat here from afar but is it really transferable in real life? Would you feel like a total prat walking round Tesco in an identical outfit to your 5 year old? Apparently "twinning is winning" Hmm prehaps in instaworld it is. I'm thinking that maybe I should try it out? Would it make me and my DCs happy? Would people stop to tell me how wonderful it is to see real life Von Trapps and thus spread the joy to the people of Northen England on a grey day?
Seriously, does anyone really do this or know someone that does? It's very much brightened my day to be honest so I'm not been mean spirited.

Whilst I'm on it does anyone know anyone who really stands in woodland wearing a variety of "outfits of the day" or shares a candid picture of a cup of tea in bed? I do love instagram it just makes me feel so dull Grin

It happens with Dh & I, we both turn up on the landing wearing black biker jacket, black top, khaki biker jeans.

He gets sent back to change.

At least neither of us own those beige anoraks. I've bought red jeggings this year & he's definitely not up for that look.

EB123 · 09/05/2017 14:46

This reminds me of going to the supermarket with my 3 boys and DH and the lady at the checkout said I love how yo u are all coordinated! Only then did it click that we were all wearing different items but at least one in a mustard.

LoveMyLittleSuperhero · 09/05/2017 14:55

Me and DD (6 months) go out a lot in jeggins and t-shirt with a jacket over the top. They're comfy (c-section scar) modest and easy to clean. I've had comments that we match but I honestly can't GAF.
My DP has a t-shirt with a console control on that says player 1, DD has one almost identical that says player 2, I think it's sweet.

PrincessHairyMclary · 09/05/2017 15:02

My 7 year old like us to match. Might be converse, jeans and similar style tops, I have a photo of us at the Meriden line in black leggings and denim skirt, white tshirts and leather jackets which is sweet. I get a lot of our clothes from Fat face where a lot of the adult and children's range are similar.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 09/05/2017 15:24

I rarely do it with DD, and never on purpose except one Christmas when she was 2, but my mum has a photo of me and my 3 siblings, all in our 30s, wearing matching stripy tops. It was completely by accident, but amused us.

Iwantacampervan · 09/05/2017 15:47

Last week my eldest (17) and I went out together in purple hoodies (slightly different shades and completely different printing etc) - it was purely by accident but I've been told it must never happen again!

flirtygirl · 09/05/2017 15:48

This is often cultural, a nigerian wedding may have 30 ladies all in the same outfit, so sisters, aunties, cousins, old and young. The boys and men of the family would have matching ties, waistcoats or traditional long shirt dress, also in the same fabric.

Twinning of mother and daughter/ daughters also done on a daily basis.

I dont get the bitchy comments on this thread as each to their own.

Camomila · 09/05/2017 15:50

It's a thing in the Philippines, as is everyone wearing white to special occasions (like weddings!)

Whenever we go to a family party I'm the scruffiest one there Grin

nigelsbigface · 09/05/2017 17:35

I just saw on my fb feed that primary have bought out a range of Mother/daughter matching outfits for people to do exactly this.why??!!

Fishwiife · 09/05/2017 19:24

I often accidentally put similar outfits on my son, if I'm in a stripes mood we both end up in stripes.... Not so much with superhero outfits

Sleepdeprivedredhead · 09/05/2017 19:28

My mum made us dresses. Got us similar hats i had a cardi she had a jacket. Family wedding in the 80's. Bloody awful. There's still photographic evidence.

squizita · 09/05/2017 19:38

Only insomuch as jeans + black tshirt is both of our day to day wardrobe.

sonjadog · 09/05/2017 19:45

I know someone who dresses in the same outfit as her husband. Jeans, top, jumper, trainers - which is normal enough, except they are exactly the same - same colours, style, often the same garment in different sizes.

toomuchtooold · 09/05/2017 19:46

Sounds like a great idea! I'm totally going to go out tomorrow wearing a white/tomato ketchup stained tulle skirt and a t-shirt that says "I believe in unicornos". I might walk about half the day with my hands down the arse of my tights as well just to complete the look Hmm

tigerskinrug · 09/05/2017 19:46

Purposely matching clothes on a family for everyday wear is a bit nauseating to me so consciously choosing the same outfit as your dc is Hmm My dc wouldn't be seen dead dressed like me Grin

herecomesthsun · 09/05/2017 19:51

Gosh my 5 year old likes rainbow stripe leggings, glitter heart sunglasses, pink tulle and facepaint. That would be one hell of a look at my age. Eat your heart out David Bowie.

trilbydoll · 09/05/2017 19:56

I put DD's in one item of matching clothing if we go to a theme park or similar. They're only 4 and 2 though, and if their trousers match they will have different tshirts or vice versa. Makes them easier to spot if one does a runner!

I can't think of anything in either of their wardrobes that would look remotely good on me though Grin I wear leggings a lot, maybe I should buy them some black leggings?!

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 09/05/2017 19:57

I've got a couple of hoodies that I bought for DS (4) that are so snuggly that I couldn't resist the age 13-14 for myself Grin I tend to wear jeans and he wears jogging bottoms so we're not too matchy even if we have ended up with the same jumper.

The DCs (4&6) often choose to match and raid each others' clothes. I buy an item for one of them and the other wants one too. I wouldn't impose it on them.

I recently walked around town with my mum, and realised after that we had the same boots on!

Love51 · 09/05/2017 20:04

I thought it was just a way to display wealth. Doesn't float my boat, but had less enough.
My now 3 year old had a checked shirt handed down to him (from a slightly bigger kid, not his dad) which was very like his dads shirt. He used to say 'Im like daddy'. I'm sure a couple of times dh used to match them up on purpose. Given that dh pays as little attention as possible to what he wears it suggests that this satisfies the human mind's need to make and see patterns.

neverthetwainshallmeet · 09/05/2017 20:06

My Mum and I have the same taste in clothes so we tend to have the same outfits!!!

DH and DS tend to wear similar-looking outfits of a weekend... usually a hoodie of the same colour with jeans! Unplanned!

MetalMidget · 09/05/2017 20:11

I'm always massively jealous of my son's colourful dinosaur/pirate/woodland animal clothes. I'd totally dress the same as him if they came in adult sizes! :P

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 09/05/2017 20:15

I have done it Grin. I tend to buy clothes for my DD that I would wear though (so the other day it was black trousers and a grey jumper). We both have denim trousers and white tops.
I wouldn't wear the same if it was something like a dress etc

anothermalteserplease · 09/05/2017 20:34

I've occasionally done it with my DDs but not consciously. And it would be a relaxed look like skinny jeans with t-shirt. I also tend to do it with hairstyles so we'll all have top knots or pleats. But I don't ever purposefully plan it. I'm not even a huge fan of coordinated looks let alone matching.

IheartDodo · 09/05/2017 20:45

I think it's cute if it happens by accident!
My sister and I had the same skirt when we were little, (didn't have matching clothes in general, but I think we both liked it in a shop on holiday and so mum let us have them!). We used to wear a similar top and pretend we were twins! (I think we were about 5 and 9!)
