To hope "twinning" is not a real life thing?

Having a nosey on Instagram and came across a very lovely account where the mum dresses her DC in matching outfits (I.e the same out fit as the mother). It all looks very sweet sat here from afar but is it really transferable in real life? Would you feel like a total prat walking round Tesco in an identical outfit to your 5 year old? Apparently "twinning is winning" Hmm prehaps in instaworld it is. I'm thinking that maybe I should try it out? Would it make me and my DCs happy? Would people stop to tell me how wonderful it is to see real life Von Trapps and thus spread the joy to the people of Northen England on a grey day?
Seriously, does anyone really do this or know someone that does? It's very much brightened my day to be honest so I'm not been mean spirited.

Whilst I'm on it does anyone know anyone who really stands in woodland wearing a variety of "outfits of the day" or shares a candid picture of a cup of tea in bed? I do love instagram it just makes me feel so dull Grin

My OH and DS did recently wear matching polo shirts, though they were going to football so can be forgiven

Is it a Geordie woman who posts photos with her daughter dressed like her once a week?

I have to text my mum now to make sure we arent in the same thing when meeting up as we have so many similar clothes! Even my winter boots are the same as hers!

I wouldn't do it. It's bad enough when DH and DS end up wearing similar clothes (chinos and polos) as they both like the same colours and styles. They have the same coat in different colours too, accidentally bought without realising. It's like they are wearing a uniform Grin

We all like similar colours...so it's not unusual for us to appear when going out and look like we have tried to match...there ends up being last minute clothes changing

Finally got photo of them after lots of face pulling

I hate it. Only once have I ever accidently 'twinned' with DS, in that I had a long checked shirt and leggings and he had a similar coloured checked shirt and black jeans. The poor soul was mortified once someone pointed it out. He doesn't want to be me and doesn't want to dress like/similar to me.

I won't be dressing this baby and DS the same (both boys). I can't stand it when parents force clothing choices on children when they don't want to (within reason). For example I know someone who, for every special occasion, has both her sons in the same shirt and jeans combo despite one child passionately hating jeans.

My mum would sometimes dress me in an adapted version of her outfit which I loved. For example, I have a gorgeous photo from the early 90s when I'm about four taken around Christmas where my mum is wearing a lovely tartan skirt and black top and I have a tartan dress.

One of my friends' mothers used to do this. She had severe depression & if they all dressed the same it was easier (all 3 daughters & the mother). This was in Montreal in the late 1960s early 1970s. My friend does not dress her daughters the same.

Gnats Crikey, poor boys. DS is eleven and he has been quite decided for while, like lots of DC's his age, about what he will and won't wear. And he's not that bothered by fashion

My mum used to roll her eyes at my dad when he dressed himself and my brother in jeans and a matching top. He always insisted that he hadn't realised but nobody believed him Grin

Oh dear. My ds often says #twinning. I better tell him it has a whole new meaning now!

No, this is absolutely not a thing I would ever do.

DD1 is nearly 19. Her type of clothing would look ridiculous on me, I'm 48. DD2 is 11 and lives in leggings/harem pants and loose tops. While the style is nice and I wouldn't say no, she'd be utterly horrified.

Aren't we all individuals with our own taste in clothing?

I remember in the 70's my sister and I (2 years part) had matching hair and matching clothes. And I hated it.

Doubt my DD would go for it 😂

Otherwise she'd be wearing a scruffy hoodie with paint stains and old leggings 😂

Someone I used to know (well was friends with until she decided that my divorce meant she should pick sides...no one else did including her husband!) did this with her young kids. And yes she looked ridiculous.

Often the kids were in clothes in styles way to old for them, the girl in particular often looked very uncomfortable more like a toy dress up doll than a little girl.

There is something faintly ridiculous about a mother and 2 children in matching zebra striped coats and hats.......

Cyberjammies have matching mother and daughter PJ sets - at least you won't be showing them off in public

There's a mother and daughter I've spotted in Glasgow who do this. The daughter is about 40 and the mother must be about 70. They wear matching black ensembles and have matching black ringlets.

Sinister.

I saw this a LOT in Florida theme parks, all members of the family dressed in the same t-shirts etc. Bit sad, if you ask me. Could be useful if you lost them. When mine were little I think I would have struggled to describe what they were wearing if they got lost, would have been "well it could be her blue dungarees with a pink jumper but then again it could be her grey tracksuit." Not the most observant mother.

We did this once - 2 adults, 4 dc. But only because dd1(14) was always going on about how we all had no idea about style and were sooooooo embarrassing. She would live in skinny jeans and a top of some sort.

On a day out I made sure only one of her favourite tops was clean, a what I would call pretty boring blue tshirt. I had purchased almost identical blue tshirts for us all which we put on under our clothes. On arrival at our day out destination, we all removed our other tops so we were all matching Grin. DD1 was mortified.

Thinking about it, the cost of the councilling she has had to have since does seem to be adding up a bit now though Wink
