To hope "twinning" is not a real life thing?

Having a nosey on Instagram and came across a very lovely account where the mum dresses her DC in matching outfits (I.e the same out fit as the mother). It all looks very sweet sat here from afar but is it really transferable in real life? Would you feel like a total prat walking round Tesco in an identical outfit to your 5 year old? Apparently "twinning is winning" Hmm prehaps in instaworld it is. I'm thinking that maybe I should try it out? Would it make me and my DCs happy? Would people stop to tell me how wonderful it is to see real life Von Trapps and thus spread the joy to the people of Northen England on a grey day?
Seriously, does anyone really do this or know someone that does? It's very much brightened my day to be honest so I'm not been mean spirited.

Whilst I'm on it does anyone know anyone who really stands in woodland wearing a variety of "outfits of the day" or shares a candid picture of a cup of tea in bed? I do love instagram it just makes me feel so dull Grin

Yeah I do for special occasions. N have done and will still do for family pics.
It doesn't have to be match outfits all the way but some colour or jackets or shoe co-ordination, does no one any harm.
Not asking anyone to look or be bothered or posting our pics on social media (awful) just enjoying our day looking gorgeous as usual just matchyBlush

My DD is 2 and she LOVES if I accidentally have even vaguely the same clothes in as her. Apparently "we're the thame" Hmm

The four of us (me, dh and two ds's) had matching Xmas jumpers last year...but that's the time of year you're allowed to be cheesy IMO.

At any other time, no.

I have done twinning once accidentally stumbled across nearly matching pjs for my daughters first Xmas eve and decided they would make great 18th birthday photos

My DD loves for all of us to match, she thinks it's so fun. She is almost 5. I normally do matching Christmas shirts or something for us all to wear out, me, DD, and DH. We all have Sesame Street shirts that we wear as a family... we are a bit weird though Grin

Sorry guys but I do that! I tend to match my outfit to my little girl's (she's 14 months) once in a while. It's never the exact same dress or jumper but very similar ones. And I bought us matching fake Doc Marteens. Everyone comments on them and tell us they look cool, I even had colleagues adl if they could take pictures of us! To be honest, I just love having 'baby-mummy' matching outfits days! I figure I can still get away with doing it now but will probably have to stop when she's 3-4 years old.

At Christmas yes! Dresses, jumpers leggings anything I can get both sizes in. But any other time nope.

Have not read every post, so apologies if this has been mentioned.

Primark have just launched a Mini Me range so that mothers and daughters can wear the same outfits.

Personally, I think it's a tasteless idea and smacks of yet more infiltration of Americana via the whole pageant culture and 'cutesy' Mom & Daughter photography packages where they dress up in matching outfits. As our American cousins would say....Barf!

Little bird at mothercare do matching tops etc. Quite cute for events and parties.

I have the same funky 'slugs and snails' tights as DD. Havent worn them out of the house though as too fat

I wouldnt do full on outfits though.

Don't think my toddler DS could pull off a purple jersey wrap maternity dress really (although pulling it off might be the most sensible option, were he to try) so we don't tend to do this. I could see myself in future using leftover fabric from when I make my own clothes to make him or the new baby a shirt or shorts or something but wouldn't particularly try to coordinate us wearing them at the same time.

I do remember that my mum made herself a couple of new nighties when she was going into hospital to have my brother and made me two as well out of the leftover fabric. I really liked us having the same ones, especially while she was away in hospital for ten days as was usual then.

Genuinely saw a mother and daughter today in the sweltering heat wearing black sweatshirts with big gold glittery writing saying (mums jumper) "like mother" (daughters jumper) "like daughter" ConfusedHmm

Oh god, I've done this by accident. Turned up at baby group in a blue and white striped top and navy trousers, realised DD was wearing a blue and white striped dress and navy leggings Blush it was so embarrassing. Reading this thread I realise people probably thought I did it on purpose which makes me feel even worse!

I have 4year old twin girls (+3 older boys), at the moment it takes me all my time to get up ready and dressed in clean clothes never mind trying to put matching into the Mix! I couldn't imagine 3 outfits all the same being clean and ready to go at the same time without weeks of Planning!

We were out for a meal the other day and saw a mummy with her daughter who we later found out was 3. They were wearing identical dresses and shoes. To be honest I did think it a bit inappropriate the vintage halter Neck dresses were not over bad but the little girl and mum had sandals with quite a high wedge heel. She kept turning over on them and I was worried for her little ankles

My husband and son occasionally wear matching socks, does that count? Dh sometimes travels for work and they arrange in advance which days to do it on when he's away so DS knows his dad is thinking about him.

We make she we don't when we leave the house! Sadly it is a thing, but I associate it with a certain type of person. I guess it might be cutesy with a baby but any older and its shudderworthy!

Love it!!! It's just a bit of fun!!! I do it with my one year old son.. not the exact same outfits but I try and match colours . Hubby got jealous once and I quickly changed my outfit as I did find all three of us a bit nauseating.. lol

If I could afford it then my daughter and I would be twinning all the time.. BUt not in some cheesy dresses with hearts or something, but in stylish clothes like, converse, zara, river island style etc..

We are going on the holiday soon and we have one pair of matching shoes and I am getting denim jackets for both of us.. they will not be identical but at least we can try to dress the same :)
I also got us both grey tutu skirts for a photo shoot and 2 red dresses are being made :)) But the dresses and the tutu skirt is more for a photoshoot not real life... unless we will attend a birthday party or something :)

My DD is 13 so it sometimes happens unintentionally but she would kill me if I actually planned t or bought matching outfits. I guess maybe I would for a special occasion but not a full on matching outfit, just something the same style/pattern. It's a bit naff imo but I'm a boring old fart and totally out of touch with 'fashion'

Well I often catch my DS wearing my dresses, but I think that question deserves a thread of its own!

I saw an impressive real life effort at the weekend at a theme park (UK). Mother mid 30s, daughter about 9 - with matching black uggs, skintight camouflage lycra, blonde ponytails and jojo bows. It was immaculate, down to the same silver necklaces. Quite something.

Bleugh! Looks extremely narcisstic to me. "My DC is just an extension of me!"

Maybe if part of wedding party - otherwise just no.
