Quick Straw Poll - do you all keep raw meat on a separate, lower, shelf than cooked meat in your fridge?

Dh thinks I'm being petty and gets annoyed when I ask him to put cooked meats on the cooked meats/cheese shelf in the fridge (eye level), and raw meat on the bottom shelf. It was something I learned in food hygiene years ago.

So, do you all keep your cooked and raw meat separate? Yes or no...

Yes. The meat should go on the bottom shelf

Fruitbat1980 · 06/05/2017 21:24

Yes.

bimbobaggins · 06/05/2017 21:24

Raw that is

Beerwench · 06/05/2017 21:34

Yes but more out of habit from jobs in catering than any other reason, meat tends to be packaged well and if it's not I make it so or put in a container so it's unlikely to drip anyway.

Seav · 06/05/2017 21:36

Yes

Mytholmroyd · 06/05/2017 21:41

Always - ever since I was taught it at Girl Guides in the 70s!

QuinionsRainbow · 06/05/2017 21:56

Yes

FamilySpartan · 06/05/2017 21:58

Yes. It's also common sense.

Chewbecca · 06/05/2017 22:00

Yes but DH tries to ruin my arrangements as he doesn't get it. My parents don't follow this rule either, makes me cringe. But hasn't made me sick to be fair.

Ev1lEdna · 06/05/2017 22:00

Yes.

dudsville · 06/05/2017 22:01

I never have so much as to have both raw and cooked in the fridge at the same time!

BigGreenOlives · 06/05/2017 22:03

Yes, raw meat is in a separate drawer at the bottom of the fridge.

donquixotedelamancha · 06/05/2017 22:07

Yes.

BirdyBedtime · 06/05/2017 22:08

No. The only raw meat that is ever in fridge is in sealed packaging plus cooked meat is always in sealed container. And like another pp most raw meat goes straight into freezer then put on counter on plate to defrost because I'm a cheapskate that mostly buys marked down meat

I know this is the rule but we never have upset tums so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I now have this picture in my head of all these fridges with raw and cooked meat sitting in open plates ready to drip all over each other Grin

Mrsmadevans · 06/05/2017 22:10

Yes your dh is stupid

londonrach · 06/05/2017 22:11

TheScarletSquid · 06/05/2017 22:12

Yes I do.

WeirdnessOfDoom · 06/05/2017 22:13

Yes. Fish included. A while ago DH wanted to surprise me and bought me some fish which he promptly plonked on the top shelf. The bag has leaked...

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/05/2017 22:13

No

TheFallenMadonna · 06/05/2017 22:13

Yes. And I am slack by MN standards...

Valentine2 · 06/05/2017 22:14

Yes

ThatsNotMyMummy · 06/05/2017 22:18

Yes.
My dh thinks I'm crazy, he puts meat all over the place. He also puts unopened tins in the fridge?????

BarbaraofSeville · 06/05/2017 22:23

No, but it's all wrapped or in bowls so can't drip. Even more shocking for the hygiene obsessives, if I defrost some meat and CBA cooking it, I just refreeze it. Never been a problem, I eat badly reheated rice too. In fact I break just about all food hygiene rules and am never I'll.

2bluestars · 06/05/2017 22:27

Yes, in the meat drawer! Although my fridge designers put this above the salad drawer, for reasons unknown...

gleam · 06/05/2017 22:29

Yes, of course.
