Quick Straw Poll - do you all keep raw meat on a separate, lower, shelf than cooked meat in your fridge?

Dh thinks I'm being petty and gets annoyed when I ask him to put cooked meats on the cooked meats/cheese shelf in the fridge (eye level), and raw meat on the bottom shelf. It was something I learned in food hygiene years ago.

So, do you all keep your cooked and raw meat separate? Yes or no...

No. I have never even heard of this, I just put everything where it will fit as our fridge is tiny.

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 06/05/2017 19:59

No, but anything like that goes in a sealed Tupperware so it cant leak. My fridge is full of little boxes.

Yes. And if it's in a non leak proof package I pop it in a Tupperware so no meat juices can escape and leak through to the salad drawers.

RabidLimboMum · 06/05/2017 20:00

Yes.

robinia · 06/05/2017 20:00

Yes - there's a dedicated drawer at the bottom of my fridge for raw meats. Cooked meats go in the next drawer up and veg/salad in the top drawer. Above that are shelves for miscellaneous stuff.
It works well.

Yes although I never knew why - I just knew that was the way it should be. Glad to see I was right.

plimsolls · 06/05/2017 20:11

Yes.

I was just thinking about this today as I rearranged raw meat that had been shoved on top of cheese and butter. I'm even more cautious about it since I read something about how much bacteria there is on the outside of raw chicken packaging.

Wolfiefan · 06/05/2017 20:11

Always.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 06/05/2017 20:13

Of course.
