...to wonder why the fucking chip shop is closed at 8pm?

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and need chips. Fat British slightly soggy crisps with top much salt and vinegar.

I've been planning it all day

Walked to local high street (one of the local high streets in Southampton, hardly obscure) and the one and only chip shop is bloody closed!
It was open when I got here at 7.55, but by the time I'd waited 8 min for my chicken shish to cook in the kebab place opposite it had CLOSED.

It's 8pm, this high St is student-ville. Why no chip shop? I'm distraught. I don't want kebab shop Iceland frozen chips.

I didn't want battered fish etc either, hence visiting kebab place first.

I want to cry.

Any joy on Just Eat or similar?

CrochetBelle · 05/05/2017 20:23

We have a chip shop that is only open for a couple of hours at tea time Angry

haveacupoftea · 05/05/2017 20:23

Also 36 weeks pregnant. If I can't get the food I want I promise myself double portions the next day!

SmokeCloak · 05/05/2017 20:25

We were on holiday in Norfolk once and the chippy shut at 8. We were most pissed off.

kizzle · 05/05/2017 20:27

I feel your pain... in the village where I work, the local chippy is shut Friday and Saturday nights!!!
What's that all about????

Also 27 weeks pregnant and if you need food, you NEED it there and then!!

DrizzleHair · 05/05/2017 20:28

Thanks for sympathy.

I did consider just eat but I already have my rapidly cooling kebab and I don't want to wait an hour for delivery of chips, or pay the minimum delivery fee of £12!

I will confess I found a Chinese takeaway a few.min walk away which does chips so all is not lost. I'm still incredulous though.

I've been shouting all sorts down the phone to DP about work shy freeloaders. I am not myself!

Chip shops always seem to close early. I've never known one to be open past 9pm, usually 8pm, and I live in the vicinity of about 7 of them.

Mu123 · 05/05/2017 20:34

That really is shit! Our chippy stays open on fri and sats til 130 to get the pub stragglers... it is quite shit though!

I demand you phone the dm with your best sad face, bastards!

FannyWisdom · 05/05/2017 20:35

On a Friday too.

Heseltines.

InfinityPlusOne · 05/05/2017 20:36

Move to Ireland, all our chip shops are open to the wee small hours. (Unhelpful)

SmokeCloak · 05/05/2017 20:42

The ones around here all stay open until about 10.30.

BumWad · 05/05/2017 20:44

Both our local chip shops shut at 8pm too.

Madness

PollytheDolly · 05/05/2017 20:44

8pm!? That's a disgrace!

(Ours shuts at 6pm Angry)

PhyllisNights · 05/05/2017 20:46

They should be open till at least 10pm on a Friday? I thought the Fish & Chips from Tuesday - Saturday, 12noon-2pm & 5pm-10pm was a standard anywhere?!

LoveForTulips · 05/05/2017 20:46

Ours are open till 9pm. except the one closest to us which in my opinion is also the best in the UK.... (around 30minutes away) who decide their hours each day. Total hit and miss...
always worth it when open
second best shitty chippy elsewhere when closed

MajesticWhine · 05/05/2017 20:48

Disgraceful. I think ours is open til late but it's not very local. I am annoyed that the chippy 100m down the road closed to become a posh restaurant. And that happened about 12 years ago. Still can't get over it.

silkybear · 05/05/2017 20:48

YAB completely U. I'm also pregnant and now you have described their fat vinegary loveliness I really want chip shop chips too. Balls.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 05/05/2017 20:50

Although I must say, as a result of this thread I am now in my local takeaway buying pizza Grin

Scholes34 · 05/05/2017 20:57

Vegan in Hunstanton was our saviour when the chippies in the centre of Hunstanton had closed by 8.00 pm on a Saturday in the summer school holidays. No idea what was going on there. Very disappointed (until we were tipped off about Vegas) and I wasn't even pregnant!

RachelRagged · 05/05/2017 20:59

Haha that has taken me right back

When I was pregnant with first born DS I craved chips too , they had to come from a certain chip shop in fact and my then DH would buy them on way home from work (was a pub manager) .. Poor sod wore them once as I sussed they were from the wrong chippie . Grin

MimsyFluff · 05/05/2017 21:01

We lived near one that was open twice a week (mid week) for 2 hours at lunch time! Most bizarre

RachelRagged · 05/05/2017 21:01

Kizzle that's madness. Surely Friday and Saturday nights are a chip shops busiest .. I know mine is heaving always on a Friday teatime .

WhispersOfWickedness · 05/05/2017 21:03

We live in a village that has a fish and chip van visit every Friday evening. You have to get there before 6.30 though, as they've normally run out of fish by then ConfusedHmm

Supersmith · 05/05/2017 21:04

.... I was gong to have some toast for supper but now I want chips doused in salt and vinegar with a can of coke.Sad

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 05/05/2017 21:05
