Juncker is an utter prick - leaking details of the dinner at No.10.
Then there's Barnier, Hollande and other EU officials warning us how ugly it's going to get.

Poland and France wanting to extract every last billion out of us!

They're playing into May's hands - giving her the opportunity to look like the Boudicca of the 21st century when she is actually an utterly useless PM.

I wish they'd show some consideration for the 48%

I'm a Remainer - still want to stay in EU - but it's starting to piss me off so there's little chance the leavers who were starting to wobble will want to stay now.

The Daily Mail are relishing it Angry

I know I am banging on a bit, but why no plan?

Because cameron misread the tone of the country whilst he was having his tantrum and didn't think that enough people would vote to leave.

mellast · 05/05/2017 10:15

I understand why you may object to this line of thinking for ethical or moral reasons.. But it was imo from the beginnig incredibly obvious that this would be the outcome.

Which is why I don't understand why anybody is surprised.

I am absolutely not surprised. I thought 100% that they negotiate in bad faith. What surprises me is why remainers still love an organization that is willing to negotiate in bad faith.

mellast · 05/05/2017 10:19

Tbh I don't think we will get a deal at the end of the 2 years. We may as well walk away now and save our energy & cash.

there is an interesting article by Yanis Varoufakis (ex socialist greek finance minister who has experience negotiating with the EU) and he has many interesting things to say about our predicament. One recommendation is to ask for a Norway deal. I think it wasn't Norway like, but exactly the same as Norway's as a temporary deal. This has the advantage that it puts the EU in a position having to justify not giving a deal currently being offered to another nation.

prettybird · 05/05/2017 10:22

A "Norway" style deal is not possible as the UK I refuse to say "we" has insisted that it will not accept Freedom of Movement.

mellast · 05/05/2017 10:33

That, and many other reasons, are why it may not work. His suggestion on trying to get the moral high ground on the EU, and get a fast deal.

Blowingthroughthejasmineinmymi · 05/05/2017 10:36

there was an argument - ( sunk without trace) that we don't need to negotiate with them at all, we can walk away.

Blowingthroughthejasmineinmymi · 05/05/2017 10:39

I haven't read to the end if the thread yet but your post at 11.14 is basically advocating that the EU uses it's power to force the people of the UK to abandon the democratic decision they have made to leave the EU. It doesn't surprise me to read that but it does shock me

Same here.

Lweji · 05/05/2017 10:49

You can. But then, what? Massive paperwork and taxes for exports? Visas every time a Brit wants to pop into France?
No chance of joint research?
British nationals kicked out of the EU?

nInachu · 05/05/2017 10:54

The stuff in the press is just hype to do with the election.

mellast · 05/05/2017 10:58

why stop now? They have done it many times, to member countries and non-member countries alike.

TheNaze73 · 05/05/2017 11:07

If that treacherous cunt Brown hadn't royally fucked is all over with the Lisbon treaty, we'd not be in the shit storm we're in now

KellysZeros · 05/05/2017 11:22

TheNaze, please explain what Brown did wrong to betray the UK

frumpet · 05/05/2017 11:28

In what way did eventually signing the Lisbon Treaty royally fuck us over ?

JassyRadlett · 05/05/2017 11:30

Well, that's another straw man of saying Remainers 'love' the EU, which is a little bit bad faith in and of itself.

Separately, I'm not sure it's in 'bad faith' considering how open they are being about their goal, which is to minimise harm to the EU (and they consider the continued stability and existence of the EU as a significant part of minimising further harm from Brexit).

frumpet · 05/05/2017 11:41

And it still sickens me to hear 'the people of the UK' being spouted as though 100% of the entire population of the whole of the UK voted leave .
It doesn't suprise or shock me , not a lot does now though .

I will put money on you not being about to find a person who voted remain in june 2016 saying they love the EU

On this forum obvs

Grin says it all really, this was the whole problem wasnt it - who could say a good word about the EU Grin

chilipepper20 · 05/05/2017 14:42

of course that's what they are saying. But you'd have to be a real ideologue to think they are the same (the welfare of europeans and the continued existence of the EU). Why not take the neutral view: we will negotiate in good faith, find the best deal for both parties, and if the people of the EU feel the EU should disintegrate, well then that's fine. After all, the benefits of the EU should sell themselves.

That's certainly a view that doesn't account for power and politics, but it's why I say they are not negotiating in good faith.

Lweji · 05/05/2017 14:42

You don't have to love the EU to think your country is better off within it, than leaving it.

makeourfuture · 05/05/2017 14:45

I love the eu. Europe Endless!

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 05/05/2017 14:46

Absolutely blowing Grin

Although for a few dreadful seconds i thought you had found one!

Railgunner1 · 05/05/2017 14:50

just secure the rights of the Eu citizens in the UK and it'll be much easier for everybody

RoseGoldProsecco · 05/05/2017 15:59

Urgh quite aside from everything else, I loathe pompous prick juncker:

Blowingthroughthejasmineinmymi · 05/05/2017 16:13

cant see your article Prosecco but maybe thats for the best!

RoseGoldProsecco · 05/05/2017 16:18

It's juncker saying that English is losing its relevance in Europe and he's going to give his speech in French..... I don't want to leave the EU, but I wish the EU would leave juncker.

He's a vile misogynistic alcoholic and he is so arrogant with his snout guzzling away in the EU gravy train that he hasn't once stopped to think, "oh shit, millions of people hate my policies". Sack of crap!!
