Is his weird?

I'm normally quite cold in my office so tend to just keep my coat on all day at work - is this weird? It's a nice trench coat but I feel like it is actually quite strange to do this! I work inside...

I would find it a bit weird. My mother used to do that and it bugged me; it was as if she was planning to get up and walk out at any moment, like she wasn't comfortable in my home, like she was deliberately not relaxing and that I needed to make more effort to welcome her.

I doubt your colleagues are thinking anything of the sort about you as that's all my baggage Blush but I would still find it a bit weird, sorry!

pointythings · 03/05/2017 20:45

Wear whatever you want if you're cold. Our office is toasty in winter, but as soon as the heating goes off (NHS), it's arctic. Last summer we opened windows on hot days to get some warmth in and used little oil filled radiators first thing in the morning. I have a jumper specifically to keep me warm and people wear fleeces too. It's just an odd building.

CaulkheadNorth · 03/05/2017 20:45

I have a thing about people wearing their coat indoors because I think it looks rude or unprofessional. I can't really verbalise more than that though, so it may be my issue to address rather than you...

Crinkle77 · 03/05/2017 20:45

Why is it so cold that you have to wear a coat. How about a shawl instead of a coat?

ImAHeartbreaker · 03/05/2017 20:46

It's not even that cold - I just always wear a thin dress and a coat!

turbohamster · 03/05/2017 20:47

I have a jacket i keep specifically at work just for wearing at my desk Grin

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 03/05/2017 20:48

I don't think it's that weird. I'm 100% weirder. I work in an industrial type building so it's not warm, but not freezing but I have a condition which means I am always very very cold. I wear a quilted Barbour coat at my desk, with a big scarf around my neck and a bigger one over my legs/around my back and often change my shoes for massive slipper sock boot things. I'm about alright then 😂

ImAHeartbreaker · 03/05/2017 20:49

Also (awkwardly) I am small but have gained weight and can't find any nice workwear to suit me! Feel like my dresses cling uncomfortably but am vain and am wedded to the coat until can find a better solution... embarrassed that you lot all find it strange though, I'm new in my job and they haven't said a word but feel like they think it's weird!!!

Conversely, some of the other chaps in my office wear short sleeve 'pilot' shirts year round.

Makes me feel cold.

One of my staff in an previous job used to have a small fan heater under her desk year round.

PaperdollCartoon · 03/05/2017 20:51

Yes weird, I'm another who things it's rude and unprofessional to wear a coat in the office. A blazer is fine but nothing else.

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 03/05/2017 20:52

It doesn't even sound like a coat coat, more of a blazer equivalent to me!

ImAHeartbreaker · 03/05/2017 20:52

My coat is a bit blazery

I hate taking my coat off - am famed for always wearing a coat. But I do find that a blazer over a dress looks professional but still gives me a costly feeling. I would hate to wear a dress without a jacket over

luckylucky24 · 03/05/2017 20:53

It's a strange thing to do. I do it a lot in new situations. It is a comfort thing that even I don't understand but I do it when I feel vulnerable.

ifyoulikepinacolada · 03/05/2017 20:58

Fine if it's a blazer, but yeah it looks like you're planning to leave any second if itms a coat!

User99573864 · 03/05/2017 20:59

I used to work with a lady that was going through the menopause who insisted the room always be freezing, so I bought a cardigan in from home.

SilverdaleGlen · 03/05/2017 21:00

Channeling my mother "are you not stoppin'??"

Buy a cardi Grin

Imaginosity · 03/05/2017 21:02

I feel the cold a lot more than other people - medical reason. I try to wear layers or a big scarf -if I needed to I'd wear my coat indoors. Several people (all woman) in our office keep hot water bottles on their laps.

newdaddie · 03/05/2017 21:04

It's not wrong but it is weird. The norm is to layer up. I doubt most people will care though. If I worked with u and noticed and had banter with you. I might ask if you slept in that coat.

P.S. The coat is really nice

MrsJBaptiste · 03/05/2017 21:07

I hate being cold and our office is hot on one side and colder on mine! I just have a supply of scarves to hand as this really warms me up - and lots of teas and coffees!

NuffSaidSam · 03/05/2017 21:09

That coat is definitely a coat/outerwear. It's not like a cardigan or a blazer. It's a winter coat!

And it probably does seem a bit odd to the people you work with.

It's a bit like a flasher's coat. Maybe they think you don't have anything on underneath!

Andylion · 03/05/2017 21:10

I just always wear a thin dress and a coat! Maybe the problem is your dresses?

Sorry, I think the pic posted is definitely a coat, not a blazer. Just wear warmer dresses or get a blazer or sweater.

VerySadInside · 03/05/2017 21:11

I think it's odd and unreasonably I find it annoying. Buy a big chunky cardi.

ShowOfHands · 03/05/2017 21:14

I wear a coat and hat all the time at work.

Nobody cares.
