To think people aren't too tired just lazy... dinner

user1493819825 · 03/05/2017 15:18

I get that once a week maybe or even twice, people have had long days, myself included, out since 8/9am this morning, and get home not bothered to cook a big meal.... though isn't it just like washing? We need to eat, we need to wash, myself included i fell into a rut of eating crap (oven baked) food like breaded chicken oven chips, beans etc cause i was ''too tired'' to cook dinner, when in a matter of fact i was just lazy....

Seen someone comment back to something similar earlier, saying 'bloody hell people nowadays are too tired to cook a meal for themselves' what is the world turning into?
Not going against anybody, i've been guilty of it too and i can admit it was pure laziness.. it takes only a few minutes to throw together a quick/fresh/homemade meal..

my sister is still like that, 5 nights out of 7 she's too 'tired' to cook, even if i offer shed rather buy a takeaway or eat a disgusting cheap oven pizza :S ( i know loads are nice)

Risotto takes longer than 10 minutes, unless your making risotto a la studenthazey - ie a pot rice with extra hot water (and extra peas, if you're feeling fancy). Lazy, my arse.

Goodasgoldilox · 03/05/2017 16:11

Offler - this would be very useful except that in this case the OP has a sister. (Obviously everyone is free to judge and point out 'motes' since only women are involved.) :)

MsHooliesCardigan · 03/05/2017 16:11

Livia Yes and not a very good or original one. OP, there was a troll who got deleted today who was on to their thread before they were rumbled. At least put a bit of effort in next time.

user3459859083590890 · 03/05/2017 16:11

OP has admitted even her own sister would rather buy a pizza than eat OP's cooking Grin.

Offler · 03/05/2017 16:11

😁 I was too lazy to edit it!

BlueChairs · 03/05/2017 16:12

Out from 9am-3.30pm isn't exactly a long day though ... my partner leaves for his commute at 8am and sometimes doesn't get home until 9/10pm ... he is tired not lazy

LostPeppers · 03/05/2017 16:12

We cook all our meals here. Most things are homemade.

I think the issue is that people don't know how to cook and more importantly are convinced it takes a long time.
There are plenty of ways to cut corners and make a meal in 20mins wo using supermarket food.
I also think that people think it's just food, not different from what you would cook yourself. Which is wrong IMO.
Plus it is totally socially acceptable to have convenience food everyday (as shown by this thread).

Does it mean That if you work long hours you can't do wo convenience food? Ime, a well planned ahead week with meals in the freezer works just as well.
Is it lazy if you don't? I don't think it's about laziness? Is it a good idea, healthy, best use of money? No I don't think so.

Elphaba99 · 03/05/2017 16:12

Well done, OP. A good afternoon's work for you winding other people up for your own entertainment. Either you're young and bored, or you thrive on conflict. If the former, perhaps go and do your homework. If the latter, I feel sorry for you.

dynevoran · 03/05/2017 16:12

Are you Katie Hopkins?

expatinscotland · 03/05/2017 16:13

Gawd, who fucking cares?! Get a life and start enjoying your own rather than being judgy about something so trivial.

ExplodedCloud · 03/05/2017 16:14

Does it really notomatoes? That's actually interesting :) A useful troll thread. Who'd have thought?

MsHooliesCardigan · 03/05/2017 16:14
  • third thread.
KungFuEric · 03/05/2017 16:14

You clearly fancy yourself as a processed ready meal version of Katie Hopkins op, what lofty aspirations you have, good for you.

SweetChickadee · 03/05/2017 16:15

OP has admitted even her own sister would rather buy a pizza than eat OP's cooking grin

she doesn't like crunchy risotto Grin

VictoriaMcdade · 03/05/2017 16:15

Are we silly as well as lazy? Aren't you a peach, OP?

I would say that it is far, far more important to show your children that you are kind and tolerant that being able to whip up a so-called 10 minute risotto.

Badcat666 · 03/05/2017 16:15

Risotto taking 10 mins? What planet do you live on OP?

I made chicken and mushroom risotto last night. 20 mins to soak the mushrooms I dried previously as I didn't have enough fresh. Finely chopped onion takes at least 5 mins to cook with the garlic. Cook the chicken as well whilst the onion cooks. Rice needs to be cooked for 2 mins then you ladle in the hot stock and cook a further 20 mins plus depending on how the rice cooks. Stir stir stir. You have to watch it so it doesn't go dry so that at least 40 mins in the kitchen from start to finish. Then you have to wash up.

And not all frozen food is crap. It's just frozen. So what if someone pops a frozen pizza in the oven after a hard and shitty day at work? I don't. Unless they are trying to bash your head in with their frozen ready meal why do you care so much?

LostPeppers · 03/05/2017 16:15

For those who are saying they do very long shifts etc... the way around that in our house is that the other person is cooking.
So if I'm late back home (at some point I wasn't back home until 9.00pm), DH was cooking for all of us.
If I knew both of us would be short of time of xxx day, then we would do a bigger portion of one meal and then freeze it for that day. Or plan an omelette with vegs.

There are ways around it.

user1493759849 · 03/05/2017 16:16

I don't even believe the original post is made up; I think she is serious, and is miffed that hardly anyone agrees with her.

user3459859083590890 · 03/05/2017 16:17

she doesn't like crunchy risotto

Grin Yeah, it's murder on your teeth and the time saved gets used up on dental appointments.

expatinscotland · 03/05/2017 16:17

'There are ways around it.'

Yeah, hit one of the aisles in ASDA, pick up a few trays of family-sized meals. Hit other one, pick up some prepped veg and salad. Job done. Or cut a sandwich or two. As long as everyone's fed and happy, what's it to anyone else?

I'm craving a Pizza Express pizza now, but we're having a chippy tonight. Think I'll go for the fried chicken.

ArcheryAnnie · 03/05/2017 16:17

Would love to know what these "quick/fresh/homemade" meals are which take "only a few minutes", OP.

ExplodedCloud · 03/05/2017 16:18

Yeah but if you've got troll teeth then crunchy risotto is fine.

MitzyLeFrouf · 03/05/2017 16:18

A ten minute risotto?!

OP either a) you don't know what a risotto is or b) you're a really shit cook.

user1484578224 · 03/05/2017 16:19

why would anyone make a meal at 10.30 pm? sorry confused

FrenchMartiniTime · 03/05/2017 16:19

This thread has just made me feel really hungry!

Sometime I cook from scratch, sometimes i'll get a take-away, sometimes i'll throw some chips and nuggets in the oven. I only wonder what I'm eating throughout the day, I couldn't care less what anyone else does and I wouldn't think to judge them.

Oh and FYI, if your risotto only takes 10 minutes you are doing it wrong Wink
