To think people aren't too tired just lazy... dinner

I get that once a week maybe or even twice, people have had long days, myself included, out since 8/9am this morning, and get home not bothered to cook a big meal.... though isn't it just like washing? We need to eat, we need to wash, myself included i fell into a rut of eating crap (oven baked) food like breaded chicken oven chips, beans etc cause i was ''too tired'' to cook dinner, when in a matter of fact i was just lazy....

Seen someone comment back to something similar earlier, saying 'bloody hell people nowadays are too tired to cook a meal for themselves' what is the world turning into?
Not going against anybody, i've been guilty of it too and i can admit it was pure laziness.. it takes only a few minutes to throw together a quick/fresh/homemade meal..

my sister is still like that, 5 nights out of 7 she's too 'tired' to cook, even if i offer shed rather buy a takeaway or eat a disgusting cheap oven pizza :S ( i know loads are nice)

I cook for me, Dh and Dd most nights. Occasionally I don't want to cook, sometimes because I'm feeling lazy, sometimes too tired, sometimes I just really fucking fancy 'a disgusting cheap oven pizza' or other processed crap.

Happyhippy45 · 03/05/2017 15:55

I also now have a health condition which leaves me very fatigued. I prioritise my meals over everything else.

LunaAzul · 03/05/2017 15:55

"Why are you jumping to conclusions?"

Like you deciding that everyone who doesn't cook from scratch is lazy Wink

SailAwayWithMeHoney · 03/05/2017 15:55

😂😂 my gran thinks half a ham sandwich and a couple biscuits with her brew is a fine dinner. Next to her I'm like Gordon fucking Ramsey 😂

blueskyinmarch · 03/05/2017 15:55

You calling us silly now OP? It really wasn't clear whether you cooked for just you or for your family at 10.30. You can cook up what you want when you want but calling people lazy and silly is not very nice.

user1493819825 · 03/05/2017 15:56

Right. before everyone jumps on that wagon.

floraeasy OF Course someone with a serious illness that doesn't give them energy to cook, of COURSE they are excluded from that conclusion.
Everyone else. People that can manage day to day and are capable.

I've never cooked risotto, but that's because it looks like a pile of sick to me. Not appetising at all. (Personal opinion of course 😉)

SmokeCloak · 03/05/2017 15:57

Yawn

user1482079332 · 03/05/2017 15:57

I think it's a cultural norm in the UK. I'm mixed. English side of the family will use passata and say it's home made other side of fam will blend down and jar their own tomatoes and wouldn't dream of buying it. I'll always cook have a few go to quick meals that I can throw together when I'm tired but come Friday I'll be enjoying a take away tired or not as a treat

Ragwort · 03/05/2017 15:57

I'm neither tired nor lazy but just bored stiff at the thought of having to cook dinner every night - I am very happy with cheese and biscuits and a glass or two of wine.

Can't imagine want to eat, let alone cook, a meal at 10.30pm at night - can't be good for you - what time do you go to bed?

Ollivander84 · 03/05/2017 15:57

But you would look at me and go "capable"
I'm not. So you can't judge people by what you think you know about them
I can either clean or cook, I generally can't manage both on the same day

floraeasy · 03/05/2017 15:57

floraeasy OF Course someone with a serious illness that doesn't give them energy to cook, of COURSE they are excluded from that conclusion

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't want to jump to any conclusions. Jumping takes so much energy Grin.

Oblomov17 · 03/05/2017 15:59

Risotto doesn't take 10 mins.
You are a judgemental idiot OP.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 03/05/2017 15:59

funny really

So you admit you are being goady

3luckystars · 03/05/2017 15:59

Good for you!!

TheExuberant1 · 03/05/2017 15:59

And? I can't be arsed to cook sometimes so I order food in. Shoot me!

floraeasy · 03/05/2017 15:59

my sister is still like that, 5 nights out of 7 she's too 'tired' to cook, even if i offer shed rather buy a takeaway or eat a disgusting cheap oven pizza

Maybe you're just not a very good cook, OP?! Grin

BlueSunGreenMoon · 03/05/2017 16:00

I love cooking and I don't really enjoy convenience food, but some days I really am too tired to cook. I'd much rather cook more, I prefer the taste of my own food! But some days I just can't summon the energy.

user1493819825 · 03/05/2017 16:00

risotto does look disgusting i agree! tastes great though

OP posts:
ILookedintheWater · 03/05/2017 16:01

Risotto in 10 mins OP? : have you discovered some miracle of partially rehydated easy-cook Arborio rice? Do tell!
Even the 'instant' frozen risotto in the supermarket takes 10 minutes and that's precooked!

BorpBorpBorp · 03/05/2017 16:01

So, if I cut up chicken breasts and breadcrumbed them by hand and fried it in a pan, would that be more or less shameful than buying frozen chicken goujons and baking them in the oven?

What if I ate a frozen pizza, but cooked it in a pizza oven I built myself in my garden? Would that still be lazy? How many meals is the work of building the oven good for?

I want to know because now that you've informed me that laziness is a moral failing, I want to make sure the labour I perform during my leisure time is enough to make me a worthy person.

Not sure arborio rice has many nutrients in it tbh.
