To think people aren't too tired just lazy... dinner

I get that once a week maybe or even twice, people have had long days, myself included, out since 8/9am this morning, and get home not bothered to cook a big meal.... though isn't it just like washing? We need to eat, we need to wash, myself included i fell into a rut of eating crap (oven baked) food like breaded chicken oven chips, beans etc cause i was ''too tired'' to cook dinner, when in a matter of fact i was just lazy....

Seen someone comment back to something similar earlier, saying 'bloody hell people nowadays are too tired to cook a meal for themselves' what is the world turning into?
Not going against anybody, i've been guilty of it too and i can admit it was pure laziness.. it takes only a few minutes to throw together a quick/fresh/homemade meal..

my sister is still like that, 5 nights out of 7 she's too 'tired' to cook, even if i offer shed rather buy a takeaway or eat a disgusting cheap oven pizza :S ( i know loads are nice)

I don't want anything, just this whole place is backwards! People not able to find energy to cook a meal... i don't know where people are going..

OH I see you do. I'm guessing there are not eating from scratch at 10.30pm.

gregoriesgirl · 03/05/2017 15:41

I tend to be up at 5am, get home and then am out until about 9pm with the DCs sporting engagements so often dinner is a quick thrown together meal. I made a massive bolognese on Monday and we will have that tonight because I can't be bothered to cook because it's a busy night helping the DCs with homework and doing the housework.
If you plan ahead it's not so bad to make sure you have healthy meals.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 03/05/2017 15:41

You're being a dick, OP. A judgemental dick.

I won't try to reason with you when you're clearly too lazy to even change your username.

user1493819825 · 03/05/2017 15:41

See, thats exactly it ^ Risotto, pasta, etc all take 10 mins...

Stir fry, bacon, whatever!

I would rather use my energy on something more productive. I don't cook for many reasons. Nice to know that's backward though

SailAwayWithMeHoney · 03/05/2017 15:42

My kid won't eat my home cooked dinners (he's very anti-veggie for a 4yo) so a huge part of his diet is a variety of processed meats and fish, frozen potato things/mash, pasta and beans/veg. Frozen veg aswell.

The horrors. And it's mainly because I'm lazy. Much too lazy to stand there and cook an entire meal from scratch just for him to refuse to eat it because it's veggie and he doesn't like it 😂

LunaAzul · 03/05/2017 15:42

I left home at 6.35am yesterday and got home at 10.40pm. I am hanging today and have worked all day so because of this my whole family will be eating pizza for tea.

I might not even cut up a cucumber as I am feeling 'lazy', might just let them eat it like a banana...

KallyBox · 03/05/2017 15:42

I leave the house at 6am, and get back at 7pm. I tend to cook simple meals that don't require much effort during the week (curry, grilled meats with pre-prepared veg and microwave rice) but will also get a takeaway usually once a week on a weeknight too.

We don't eat unhealthily, and I'd rather prioritise time with my DSD, popping in to see my baby nephew and his mum who live across the road, walking the dog, going for a run, reading a book - any of these suit me better than cooking a full blown meal every evening.

BeyondThePage · 03/05/2017 15:42

I have a part time job, 2 kids and am caring for an ill MIL in our pokey little house full time for a couple of months - I am knackered - continually. I cook at tea time every day for my (extended) family - difference is, I really don't give a damn if anybody else does or not.

floraeasy · 03/05/2017 15:42

I used to love cooking and baking. Was rather good at it once - even as a child I used to make dinner for the family.

Now though, I am too tired/lazy/depressed/disinterested really. So I rarely bother.

I live on diet ready meals with loads of steamed veg and am losing weight. I have lost interest really.

There is only the two of us and it's easier/cheaper than actually cooking now. They stay in the freezer until wanted, so no waste. It also stops me overcooking and overeating.

Yeah, I could do a lot more I'm sure. I am happy to go with lazy as an explanation. Suits me Wink.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 03/05/2017 15:42

I don't eat rice or pasta

Cba to spend ages cutting up stuff for stir fry

I literally don't remember when I last ate hot food at home

user1493819825 · 03/05/2017 15:43

8yo and 12yo? Ah, that explains it. I have a 6 month old baby, a 7yo who won't leave me alone and a DH who works awkward shifts and is rarely home in time to occupy them while I cook. So I'll just stay over here, with my frozen veg and breaded chicken goujons (they're posher than nuggets y'know Wink). I'd rather heat up quick food and save my sanity thanks.

user1493759849 · 03/05/2017 15:45

Risotto and pasta only take 10 minutes, but a pot noodle only takes 5, and is soooooooo scrummy.

Also, a tin of soup only takes 3 minutes, and cheese on toast takes 5.

And a greggs pasty takes 30 seconds in the microwave.

Why waste 10 minutes, makes no sense? Confused

user1493819825 · 03/05/2017 15:45

I wish people wouldnt get so defensive! Its like you can't handle being called lazy, so people are lashing out....
Some people have the energy to cook, some don't.. i call the ones who dont, lazy. big deal! We all have an opinion

twostepsister · 03/05/2017 15:45

I am up at 5.00 and get home at 6.00 I certainly am not going to lovingly cook a meal when I am physically exhausted. It's a nutritious ready meal and vegetables/salad for me and my family. I am one of the new breed of consumers grazers who basket shops and enjoys casual dining. Judge me if you want but I value what time I have left to relax in the evening too much.

user1493759849 · 03/05/2017 15:46

Oh and a jar of peanut butter with a spoon; my fave lunchtime meal YUM.

TheViceOfReason · 03/05/2017 15:46

You think its reasonable to rock on home at 10.30pm and expect 8 and 12 year olds to start helping to prepare and cook a meal?

Wow.

MrTumblesbitch · 03/05/2017 15:46

I'd rather feed ds kebabs while I lie on the sofa drinking wine and mumsnetting. Meh.

ExplodedCloud · 03/05/2017 15:46

Risotto in 10 minutes? What sort of heathen concoction are you making?

user1493759849 · 03/05/2017 15:46

Oooooooooh we can't handle being called lazy. Hmm

Shame on us!!! smacks own hand sharply!

honeycheeerios · 03/05/2017 15:47

Well aren't you judgemental.

We're having fish fingers, chips and peas tonight. And I don't care what you think.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 03/05/2017 15:47

Wonder why people are getting defensive? Is it because some internet muppet is judging them and calling them lazy? 🤔
