To think people aren't too tired just lazy... dinner

I get that once a week maybe or even twice, people have had long days, myself included, out since 8/9am this morning, and get home not bothered to cook a big meal.... though isn't it just like washing? We need to eat, we need to wash, myself included i fell into a rut of eating crap (oven baked) food like breaded chicken oven chips, beans etc cause i was ''too tired'' to cook dinner, when in a matter of fact i was just lazy....

Seen someone comment back to something similar earlier, saying 'bloody hell people nowadays are too tired to cook a meal for themselves' what is the world turning into?
Not going against anybody, i've been guilty of it too and i can admit it was pure laziness.. it takes only a few minutes to throw together a quick/fresh/homemade meal..

my sister is still like that, 5 nights out of 7 she's too 'tired' to cook, even if i offer shed rather buy a takeaway or eat a disgusting cheap oven pizza :S ( i know loads are nice)

OP posts:

I miss Chicken and Sweetcorn Pot Rice. Sad

MrsPringles · 03/05/2017 18:47

Dinner is coming out of the freezer tonight. I am tired not lazy. There is a difference.

Op, judge away 🙄

Trifleorbust · 03/05/2017 18:50

My risotto takes 30ish minutes including peeling veg. It's still a 'quick' meal but it still requires effort.

Libitina · 03/05/2017 19:22

I leave the house at 6:30am and quite often don't get home until 21:30. Buggered if I'm cooking properly at that time of night!

AwaywiththePixies27 · 03/05/2017 19:23

HoneyDragon I still miss Turkey Twizzlers Wink Grin

ThymeLord · 03/05/2017 19:26

People seem to think I'm making up that Pot Rice was a real thing. Used to love the curry one with white bread to dip.

Willow2017 · 03/05/2017 19:35

Who the hell takes delight in starting to cook tea/ dinner whatever you call it at 10.30 after being out at work all day?
Nobody is that keen on having a home cooked meal surely?

You must be totesamaze op😇

HoneyDragon · 03/05/2017 19:47

Pot Rices were fucking awesome

RubbishMantra · 03/05/2017 20:11

UppityHumpty, so you get up at 4am, don't get home 'til 1am, then cook from scratch? Then eat? So basically never sleep? Confused

That way madness lies. Unless you were having a Giraffe.

UppityHumpty · 03/05/2017 20:16

I get 3-4 hours a day @RubbishMantra and catch up on weekends.

HoldBackTheRain · 03/05/2017 20:29

OP are you out milking cows so you can put really fresh milk on the weetabix you worked in the field for earlier, so you can feel just as smug at breakfast tomorrow?? I'm worried - you've been gone a long time. Although given how much you hate laziness it wouldn't suprise me if you've run a couple of four minute miles as well to keep you from slacking.

MajesticWhine · 03/05/2017 20:30

I quite enjoy cooking although I definitely am ready for a break or a takeaway by the end of the week. Also I can't see much wrong with breaded chicken. Shock horror on mumsnet but it's just chicken and bread. Not the work of the devil. Italians would call it chicken Milanese and make it sound posh.

RubbishMantra · 03/05/2017 20:30

Oh, that's not good, Uppity. Maybe stock up on some ready meals - you can add salad and veggies to them. Give you more time for rest.

Need to look after yourself sleep-wise too. Actually that's even more important than eating.

isadoradancing123 · 03/05/2017 20:36

Oh go and be a food snob somewhere else.. we are not remotely interested

UppityHumpty · 03/05/2017 20:44

@RubbishMantra - cooking doesn't take more than an hour everyday. It's worth it to know I'm feeding my kids nutritious food.

BlurryFace · 03/05/2017 20:51

"These days" nothing, my mum and dad were raised on sugar sandwiches and whatever could be thrown into a single pot and boiled to hell.

One set of my grandparents were working physical jobs growing crops, the other had a large brood and were constantly skint and I'm sure if Iceland were around they'd have been all over it before you could say Kerry Katona. Juggling work/kids/cooking and fudging it a bit is not a new thing. My own parents gave us Dolmio, boil in the bag fish, oven chips etc quite often.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 03/05/2017 20:55

Sugar sandwiches! yum! Remember cinnamon toast too?? you yum yum

My gran used to make condensed milk with bread.

It really is a myth that out forbears were healthy eaters.

stumblymonkeyreturns · 03/05/2017 20:58

I am out of the house around 5.30am and back at 7.30-8.30pm.

I am tired. You try that five days a week and you'll be too tired to cook dinner too and live off cereal like me

bunnylove99 · 03/05/2017 20:59

A lot of posters here work really long hours with commutes, kids and commitments. They will be too tired to produce home cooked meals every night. Meal production isn't black n white home cooked ftom scratch v junk anyway. There are plenty of these half-prepared meals now you can easily cook without any work and serve with veg/salad. I've recently returned to FT work and thought the evening meal would be a huge problem. It's fine, we all eat pretty healthily and survive.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 03/05/2017 21:00

Want2 But shepherds pie etc isn't that nutritious and isn't rotisserie chicken expensive? I must admit I'm picky which is one reason I don't cook.

I'm howling at the overwhelming smugness on this thread - what a total load of bollocks some people come out with. And the pearl clutching about poor people not cooking... it's hilarious GrinGrin

ProfessorBranestawm · 03/05/2017 21:02

I'd say my tiredness is pretty valid, it's part of a medically diagnosed condition and everything :o

Mysteriouscurle · 03/05/2017 21:09

I remember leaving at 8am getting home after 6, making a meal, organising bathtime supervising homework making sure there was clean uniform for the following day bedtime routine. Thats before you factor in the time to sit down and eat said meal. It was never going to be from scratch every night. And GrinGrinGrin to a fresh meal from scratch taking 15 minutes. Plus meateaters and a vegetarian to cater for so often 2 meals to cook/extra washing up.

Bananamanfan · 03/05/2017 21:15

When i was growing up my mum could give us fish finger, waffles & beans with angel delight for pudding. No one gave a shit & she was at home during the day. We've got the blinking nursery bear this eve, so i'll have to invent some quinoa, kale & organic, corn fed chicken to put in his diary.

Athrawes · 03/05/2017 21:18

Walk a mile in their shoes before you judge.

AdoraBell · 03/05/2017 21:22

I was totally lazy tonight. DH away overnight, DD's ate a friends so I had cheese and crackers with fruit.

Sometimes though, I am just too bloody tired to cook.
