To think people aren't too tired just lazy... dinner

I get that once a week maybe or even twice, people have had long days, myself included, out since 8/9am this morning, and get home not bothered to cook a big meal.... though isn't it just like washing? We need to eat, we need to wash, myself included i fell into a rut of eating crap (oven baked) food like breaded chicken oven chips, beans etc cause i was ''too tired'' to cook dinner, when in a matter of fact i was just lazy....

Seen someone comment back to something similar earlier, saying 'bloody hell people nowadays are too tired to cook a meal for themselves' what is the world turning into?
Not going against anybody, i've been guilty of it too and i can admit it was pure laziness.. it takes only a few minutes to throw together a quick/fresh/homemade meal..

my sister is still like that, 5 nights out of 7 she's too 'tired' to cook, even if i offer shed rather buy a takeaway or eat a disgusting cheap oven pizza :S ( i know loads are nice)

She is outside stamping in a barrel of green grapes, laughing at all of us lazy bastards buying wine.

I didn't get back in until late last night. DD had an 8:20 hospital appointment and I needed to take DS to grandmas so she could take him to school in time this morning. We had to walk there in the pouring rain. DS showered. PJ's and happily eating tea with grandma. Me and DD got the bus back. Bath uniforms. Up and out at 6:30am to walk over to the bus stop for the hospital (nearest bus stop is a 20 minute walk away and I have a gammy knee so have to plan the time for twice as long). I was that knackered this afternoon I fell asleep just before pick up time and I never sleep in the day unless I'm ill.

I've just put a toad in the hole in the oven (thanks aunt Bessie) and quite frankly, I am too tired to give a fuck tonight if people think I'm lazy or not. .

The other day we had fresh salmon, pots, veg and fruit and natural yogurt for pudding. Because I had time.

Well done OP - Have a medal Star You have chosen to make yourself a full home cooked meal every nigh even when home at 10:30pm. Good for you.

Now - surely what other people choose to do is their choice. Why would you need to judge them???

Maybe some do feel very tired after a day at work, more so than you do. Maybe you find cooking relaxing so don't mind standing at cooking at that kind of time.

I love cooking, but when I say that I mean I love the chance to spend a decent amount of time cooking a full 3 course meal for family or friends, taking time over it, etc.

Some nights I really can't be bothered. I am out of the house from 7:45am and rarely home before 5, and even then I have work to do at home too most days. I have arthritis and one of the big symptoms of it is fatigue, and my heavy meds I take don't help either. I would in a primary school so it is on the go all day with not much time to just be quiet and still. DH isn't home til 7-7:30pm, and tbh by the time he is home some days I am shattered, so yes - we have a quick meal at times. Sometimes it might be a freezer meal, other times it might be an omelette or some pasta and pesto, and at others a walk to the pub for someone else to cook it. You can call it being lazy if you like, I call it being tired and preferring to have time to just sit and not do anything at all for half an hour!

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 03/05/2017 18:10

Hazey my goat risotto only takes 10 minutes.

It's especially nice when you add oven chips.

never understood why oven chips have been so criminalised. Surely better than deep frying??

Want2bSupermum · 03/05/2017 18:11

kel We have chef Mike and chef Ovi. They are the microwave and the oven. Chef Mike does an awful lot of cooking with chef Ovi doing the finishing cook.

Absolutely nothing wrong with either chef Mike or chef Ovi meals.

SparklyFairyDust · 03/05/2017 18:14

I think it's pretty much an individual thing, as long as it doesn't impact you I wouldn't worry. We're always prepared meal wise, so something is defrosted or chilled, ready to go. It's just a matter of 10/15 minutes cooking.

It's a personal thing though, I wouldn't worry over others that much. Unless you turn up to a dinner party and it's chicken nuggets and chips Grin

DonaldStott · 03/05/2017 18:15

So you get in at 10.30pm and proceed to cook an evening meal. Hmmmmm okay.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 03/05/2017 18:16

"it takes only a few minutes to throw together a quick/fresh/homemade meal.."

This attitude always makes me laugh. Its like when Jamie Oliver did the whole 15minute meals thing and the budget ones.
No mate, let all your kids loose in that kitchen with you and the cameramen ans get all your stuff for dinner and pudding with nothing but a fiver, and lets see if it still only takes you 15minutes when child No 2 is tugging at your ankles whilst child no1 and 3 are scrapping in the corner behind cameraman 4 and you've got to decide whether to let them fight it out or go ans split it up and risk the dinner burning. Then I might just think its possible.

DancingLedge · 03/05/2017 18:17

Cooking?
Really? Cooking?
Have you not heard of the nutrient loss that comes with cooking?
Raw, all the way.
Wink

PyongyangKipperbang · 03/05/2017 18:17

Well aren't you bloody wonderful?

Meanwhile, back in the real world....

AwaywiththePixies27 · 03/05/2017 18:17

Unless you turn up to a dinner party and it's chicken nuggets and chips

My kind of dinner party sparkly! Grin

I'll bring the bottle. of ketchup.

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 03/05/2017 18:18

DontPullThatTubeOut · 03/05/2017 18:19

Haven't read the full thread, mostly because I can't et past the first page due to your smug comments. Quite frankly, you sound like a twat.

DontPullThatTubeOut · 03/05/2017 18:20

Sheeraaargh wish I knew that code the other day!

MirriMazDuur · 03/05/2017 18:21

I make pasta and risotto regularly. I can't imagine how fresh and from scratch yours are if they take 10 minutes?

I'd love to hear what these other fresh and from scratch meals are that you throw together in ten minutes.

FlapAttack78 · 03/05/2017 18:23

OP ah aren't you just amazing. You superstar you. If only we could all do as brilliantly as you. Truly an inspiration to us all.

You almighty judgemental turd

Babyblues14 · 03/05/2017 18:26

I'm tired, I get one day off a week, currently pregnant, two hour school run on two buses as teen stepson refuses to move school since we moved and we dont want to interrupt his progress. I cook 4 times a week, I see no problem with it and dont see why I should be judged

hazeyjane · 03/05/2017 18:27

Unless you turn up to a dinner party and it's chicken nuggets and chips

I once had a dinner party and served pot noodles with peas, obviously I made sure red wine was served with the beef and tomato and white with the chicken and mushroom, you've got to have standards.

DontPullThatTubeOut · 03/05/2017 18:27

Come live my life and tell me I'm lazy. Ever heard of being mentally tired? Clearly not since you are soo perfect.

MontyPythonsFlyingFuck · 03/05/2017 18:28

Making risotto properly (I was taught by an Italian mamma) takes about 30-40 minutes, depending on what you're adding to it and whether you're starting it off with a sofritto. God knows what you're making but no Italian would recognise it as risotto.

DontPullThatTubeOut · 03/05/2017 18:29

hazey you could have left the peas from the beef and tomato one, too many in there as it is.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 03/05/2017 18:30

Er it was me on the other thread saying "Bloody hell what is the world coming to, families too tired to cook etc".

Can I just clarify, that I wasn't taking the piss, I was trying to say I think that it is honestly a disgrace that society has got to the stage that people are working such long hours, because of low wages, house prices, long commutes whatever, that people do not have the time or energy to cook for themselves and eat properly.

Certainly not accusing anyone of laziness.

bananafish81 · 03/05/2017 18:37

I am completely lazy

It's only DH and I, neither of us have any interest in cooking dinner

If we had kids it would be different, there would be a reason to cook a proper meal

But we can't have children, so no reason for us to make ourselves cook a meal from scratch

We eat plenty of fruit and veg. But have no interest in food so cannot be arsed to do anything but throw together prepared stuff, or have something like a Bol veg pot or Covent Garden soup or frozen lasagna from Cook.

Our laziness doesn't hurt anyone else so what's the problem

Babyblues14 · 03/05/2017 18:39

Pot noodle dinner party sounds great (hazeyjane)
But you forgot to serve the curry pot noodle, you got to have some variety and fruit. It has mango chuntney!!!

Biscuitybase · 03/05/2017 18:41

People have different energy levels, often owing to illness. Working all day might be as much as some people can physically/ mentally do for themselves and their families. We are not all boot-strapping and robust. HTH.
