...to tell you all a happy ending story about premature birth?!

My dd was born at 23 weeks and weighed 1lb 2. You could see through her skin.

She was ventilated and on shedloads of steroids and was fed tiny quantities of my milk through a tube into her tummy. I had to ask permission to touch her. She had blood taken from her heel every few hours to check her lungs were working properly; after a couple of weeks the skin on her feet was completely broken down like a wound that never healed.

She's had a heart operation and an eye operation. She's had whooping cough and chicken pox.

Today's her second birthday. She's not on oxygen or any medicine any more. She's running and talking and giggling, and smashing all her developmental milestones. I sneezed this morning and she said 'bless you, Mummy'.

I'm the proudest mum in the world.

Oh wow what a lovely story. I'm a student midwife and just spent a week working in SCBU, it was such a privilige to be caring for such tiny yet strong babies and thier incredible families. Flowers

Your little girl sounds like a beautiful wee fighter! Similar story here (30 weeks/ 11 weeks in SCBU/ home on O2) and my wee fighter was 2 last week too! Totally emotional reading your story - just lovely to hear.

RB68 · 02/05/2017 15:21

Its great to hear these stories - mine was 30 plus 5 and a whopper at 3lb 9oz I was extremely lucky as was she as she had few issues bar a bit of jaundice and was in a crib t 3 days released home after 3 weeks at 4lb (would have been earlier but I ended up with a second surgery at 10 days so they gave me some breathing space)

RB68 · 02/05/2017 15:22

ps she is 11 now and despite being an August instead of October baby holding her own in the top sets as well

flapjackfairy · 02/05/2017 15:23

Oh thanks for sharing this. It is just lovely to hear x

Kohi36 · 02/05/2017 15:27

Happy birthday to your little fighter. My little born was born at 28 weeks weighing a tiny 2 pound. He also had heart surgery. He is thriving now. Preemies are so special. The overcome so much. Congrats to you as you undoubtably played a massive role in getting your daughter to this stage.

SpringBail · 02/05/2017 15:28
