To buy my dh an adult scooter?

As in like a nippy little metal two wheel stick thingy, rather that a moped.

Is it wankery? Will people point and laugh?

OP posts:
BeMorePanda · 03/05/2017 17:22

I'm seeing more and more adults using them (London) - they are probably the urban walking of the future.

I'd be mostly concerned about my legs becoming different shapes - one is stood on all the time while the other pushes. I wouldn't be clever enough to switch sides to keep things even.

(Though I have often been an early adapter, I have never been trendy)

BeMorePanda · 03/05/2017 17:24

I am also seeing people on the electric one wheeled things where you stand astride the wheel - for lazy well balanced fuckers.

Orroco · 03/05/2017 17:28

I judge adults on scooters to be absolute wankers. There's just no need!

IHeartKingThistle · 03/05/2017 17:32

I can't imagine any of them give a shit what you think as they whizz past you, Orroco Grin

Littledidsheknow · 03/05/2017 18:53

"Muppet" 'Wanker" and "Cunt"" FFS. Hmm

People who describe others- strangers - in such terms for no reason other than using a scooter deserve to be subjected to more of them. Please buy one for your DH, OP, to piss these people off as much as anythinganything else.

howrudeforme · 03/05/2017 19:22

I'm a Londonder just moved out. Well true Londoners are functional and don't give a ff about how they look, so just ordered one for ds to get to school. We will share and on days I'm back in London for work I'll use it. Thanks for the link, was just what I'm looking for.

Orroco · 03/05/2017 21:32

IHeart they aren't going much faster than me to be honest, and I get to look like a normal grown adult rather than an idiot so it's all good Wink

OlennasWimple · 03/05/2017 21:38

They aren't safe for the rider to use on the road.

They aren't safe for pedestrians when used on the pvaement

Please don't get your DH a scooter, OP!

MsGameandWatch · 03/05/2017 22:35

No mode of transport is entirely safe, it's daft to just write one off completely as not being safe anywhere.

And why are people just so unpleasant about scooter use? Honestly the name calling is just so OTT.

MsGameandWatch · 03/05/2017 22:39

This is the face I see when I read some of your comments Grin

I judge adults on scooters to be absolute wankers. There's just no need!

You don't know what the needs of a random stranger are. They are just trying to get from A to B within their budget and on schedule, taking their means and abilities into account, same as you. Most adults, on scooters or otherwise, don't care about a rude random judging them to be wankers.

OlennasWimple · 03/05/2017 23:20

MsGame - but the OP's DH could come to serious harm if he scoots on the roads (I'm not sure that scooters are even deemed road-worthy?), and if adults aren't legally allowed to cycle on pavements because of safety concerns, it's not that much different with an adult on a scooter in a collision with a pedestrian

But top marks for the picture Grin

FernCurl · 06/05/2017 17:32

So long as you don't mind him looking like an utter tit, it's fine. I see a lady who scoots to school with her son every day when I'm dropping my son off. She looks awfully cheery as she scoots along but I'm afraid I can't help but think every time I see her, dear god you look like an absolute bell-end.

MsGameandWatch · 06/05/2017 18:03

I'm sure she doesn't give a shit 😊. I know I don't when I am on mine. It's great.

MrsB5343 · 06/05/2017 18:32

Me my DH and kids all have scooters ours are big 17" pump tyres, we all have great fun going along the cycle path :)

MrsB5343 · 06/05/2017 18:52

My DH and I have adult microscooters and we love them!!! We got them for our birthdays with money from various family members, they are such fun! Granted with a 4 and 1 year old we haven't had lots of opportunities to use them together but we still think they are brilliant. Yes I'm 90% sure we look like tits but I'm not interested in others opinions! Isn't that what being a 30 something is for!?

thelikelylass · 06/05/2017 22:51

In the last few weeks I have seen multiple adults on scooters, unicylcles and....a Penny Farthing. They got on the train with it. I don't even live in Clowntown or the Victorian Era.
Won't adult scooter users have one big muscly leg and one normal sized leg?

MsGameandWatch · 06/05/2017 23:14

No because you alternate legs. I do anyway.

YolandiFuckinVisser · 06/05/2017 23:29

DS has a unicycle. He's 15 so must be cool and down with the kids innit?

NeverTwerkNaked · 07/05/2017 06:43

@ferncurl well aren't you lovely Hmm . Why, conceptually, is it any different from seeing an adult on a bike? Do you judge them too?

Ifailed · 07/05/2017 06:52

Who cares what your DH may look like, I'd be more concerned at being mowed down by an adult riding one on a pavement, I'm sure the pain of being hit is no different from being hit by a bicycle and we don't encourage that?

Jenijena · 07/05/2017 06:54

We've just got one. Yes it's wanky. I don't care. But it means that even on days that We have to go to work straight after the school run, my son can scoot to school as it only takes us 10 minutes to get home afterwards, and not 20 minutes walk.

Surprising how knackering on the legs it is

We're not the only parents in this category either (Hampshire suburbia).

MsGameandWatch · 07/05/2017 07:40

It's not the same as cycling on the pavement, why do people keep saying this? It's a third of the size of a bike and you can't even come close to picking up the same speed. Using one is perceived as child like that's why people sneer at it I think. Living in London I see a lot of adult scooter users and they all, including myself, get off their scooters in crowded areas to push them because you just can't use them then.

haveacupoftea · 07/05/2017 07:42

Go on! Life's too short to care even if you do look like a twit Smile
