As in like a nippy little metal two wheel stick thingy, rather that a moped.

Is it wankery? Will people point and laugh?

It's really annoying having adults use them on the pavement and it makes you look like a muppet

Tobolsk · 02/05/2017 11:03

A friends DH used his kids one, messing about riding it round the kitchen. He shattered his knee when he fell off it.

Adults don't bounce like kids do

SistersOfPercy · 02/05/2017 11:11

I work in a school and occasionally get given larger scooters for our kids (SN School). School is about 500 yards from my home. On the occasions I've had scooters I've had a bloody fabulous time scooting into work!
I did mention to DH I'd like to get one or a small bike but he pointed out the time it took me to get it out of our garage and then chain it up at work I could have walked there quicker 😩

SoupDragon · 02/05/2017 11:17

I'd rather have a boring old fart think I look like a muppet than be a boring old fart :o

DissonantInterval · 02/05/2017 11:40

Sod what people think. If he would like one, and would enjoy using it, why not.

Mari50 · 02/05/2017 11:50

I don't have one but I bought my daughter an upgraded micro to take my weight, we go out to the park and have a great time scooting round, most people look at me like I'm a bit odd but fuck it, I am and it's great fun.
I also use her scooter when I'm collecting her from school, why carry the bigger when I can ride it the mile to her school.

gotthemoononastick · 02/05/2017 12:41

I am very old, wear 'funny' things according to DGC's ,have my hair in a silver bun and fly about on the towpath and pavements on one.

Do not give a fig about the double takes and wide grins, but love the occasional little 'race' with small people.

Get him one immediately, but may I suggest the knee protectors.Trying to pull the shopper may be a bridge too far....(sage voice).

teabagsmummy · 02/05/2017 15:30

kirsty allsop has a red one saw it on location, location, location.i want one but wouldn't be able to use it due to baby

mintinbox · 02/05/2017 17:37

Soupdragon who's a boring old fart?

It's boring old farts round here who use scooters. So naff. They're likes by the sort of people who wear crocs.

zen1 · 02/05/2017 17:46

DH and I have one (and we don't wear crocsGrin). Love racing the kids over at the park and sometimes I take it on the school run. Don't give a flying monkey shit what people think.

MsGameandWatch · 02/05/2017 17:49

I've got one. It's brilliant. Everything in my life is easier since I got it, getting to work, shopping, school run. I'm really Confused at people who think they're Try Hard or ridiculous, it's just sneering really to think that way. They're just a very effective way of getting around faster especially in towns and cities.

Sara107 · 02/05/2017 18:01

I don't go to London much, find it hard not to point and stare at adults on scooters as it's the only place I've seen them. Look bizarre to me, and are quite annoying speeding along crowded city streets. I might not mind so much out in a park where they can go on a cycle path or something.

Mintybuttons · 02/05/2017 18:19

I work in a large and very spread out school - I use my scooter to travel between the buildings. Bloody love it and no one has called me a scooter wanker (yet). 🤣

SuperFlyHigh · 02/05/2017 18:25

Tobolsk I'm so sorry but I laughed/sniggered out loud at your comment! Grin

I don't mind them personally, but, when I used to work near a park and walk on the path through it a few adult scooterers would try and mow me down. Until I lost it one day and yelled at one. 'Twas satisfying.

SoupDragon · 02/05/2017 18:26

who's a boring old fart?

Anyone who thinks adults shouldn't go on scooters.

Bubblysqueak · 02/05/2017 18:27

I had one for mothers day (my choice) and love it! It's a great way of keeping up with dc on their scooters.

MeeWhoo · 02/05/2017 18:30

Dh has one and it's actually very good for accompanying little children on their bikes and scooters on cycle routes (not on the road).

Much better than running after the children trying to keep up and much easier to go very slowly if necessary and jump off it compared to a bike.

paxillin · 02/05/2017 19:04

Perhaps. It did really reduce my commuting time though, is lots of fun, costs nothing to run, won't get stolen because it is inside and I lost a stone, too. Randoms thinking it makes you look like a muppet is really low on the list of priorities.

whathaveiforgottentoday · 02/05/2017 19:36

Fine by me but don't fall of it in public otherwise you will look like a twat.
I ride my eldest DD's as its a stunt scooter and goes up to adult size. Its really nippy and easier to park than a bike.

I've only fallen off once and luckily nobody saw me.

MsGameandWatch · 02/05/2017 19:37

Ride a scooter don't ride a scooter but I think people who think such sneery spiteful thoughts about a person using one to get around are probably quite joyless judgmental sorts generally so you wouldn't be the kind of person whose opinion I was interested in anyway.

KingLooieCatz · 03/05/2017 11:29

I do see other adults on scooters. I've yet to be subjected to scooter-related abuse myself, to be honest you're moving too fast anyway. After a while you will get frustrated by walking pace. Especially down hill. I don't have a car anymore; scooters for me and DS, combined with bus passes, mean we can get to loads more places quickly and easily than without.

CottonSock · 03/05/2017 11:36

Great idea for my birthday Grin

Hissy · 03/05/2017 12:38

A couple of times I have picked DS up from school with his scooter, once I was really late due to ridiculous sets of traffic lights and diversions, so had to use it to get to him less late than I would have been on foot.

His classmates thought I was the coolest mum EVER... "Skills!!!" but he's year 6 and I am well aware that my merely breathing next year will be the source of excruciating embarrassment

Hissy · 03/05/2017 12:39

I'm tempted myself to get one!!

StoatofDisarray · 03/05/2017 12:44

seven I guarantee you haven't seen a genuinely trendy person in London on a scooter. I speak as a moderately trendy Londoner.

However, who cares about being trendy? If he wants one, get him one!
