AIBU to be a bit peeved that I seem to be growing a beard?

All of a sudden I have a variety of coarse and fine black hairs sprouting from my chin and neck. Not like an actual beard. There are probably twenty in total. But STILL. I am only 34. Why is this happening to me? Tweezing seems to cause ingrowing hairs and shaving just feels... wrong. I have so far managed to conceal my rampant facial hair from Mr Jam. Is it going to get worse? Am I going to be like a bearded lady in a Victorian show?

Mine appeared on my 40th birthday four years ago. I get them waxed off.

Illuminator · 30/04/2017 17:56

I have a 'tache. i get it waxed or occasionally threaded (ouch) every 4 weeks.

Tis age and hormones!

SignOnTheWindow · 30/04/2017 17:58

Could be PCOS/some sort of hormonal imbalance?

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor!

PodgeBod · 30/04/2017 17:58

I've had really bad dark facial hair since my teens, I have PCOS. It's a pain in the arse. I've just got an IPL to see if that will shift it.

HelenaDove · 30/04/2017 18:03

Its to do with androgens. This is also more common in women of Meditereanen origin.

jamtomorrow1 · 30/04/2017 18:05

Have just googled PCOS. Seem to have a few symptoms! Well done Mumsnetters. I will investigate.... waxing not a bad plan though!

I've had chin hairs since I was about 13. PCOS has not been kind to me. I wax every month, sometimes twice and pluck out any massive ones that seem to crop up overnight as and when. I tried IPL but it gave me an awful rash. So did hair removal cream. Bleaching was also a failure as the hairs were just long blonde ones instead of black. Definitely don't shave. I use superdrugs own facial waxing strips and they are really good.

Don't panic, sorting your stray hairs beard will become second nature and part of your routine like shaving your legs and brushing your teeth. It's great fun. Wine

Badcat666 · 30/04/2017 18:14

Could be pcos. I've got this and resigned myself to tweezers for the rest of my life as waxing basically strips my skin off and I was just left with attractive raw red face and I growing hairs. Tweezers, a magnifying mirror and little torch will be your bestest friends for getting the little gits Grin

sopsmum · 30/04/2017 18:42

Pcos. It's crap.

junebirthdaygirl · 30/04/2017 18:49

Electrolysis works for that.

CoolCarrie · 30/04/2017 18:54

Please don't touch them with a razor what ever you do! Waxing, eplitor threading, electrolysis or laser are the options, see which suits you best.

CoolCarrie · 30/04/2017 18:56

FallenSky have you tried electrolysis ? I have Pcos and it worked for me, not all the buggers mind you, but the majority haven't come back

Joshpaws · 30/04/2017 19:46

Get a spring epilator wand. Cheap and easy to use and removes them from the roots. You don't even need a mirror.

LedaP · 30/04/2017 19:51

I have pcos and have this problem.

Someone on here, recommended the spring wands. I love them. Carry one in my bag just incase i miss any.

Literally life changing. Takes a fee minutes rather than spending 15 mins a day plucking. I have a few thick dark hairs and loads of fine fuzz. Both have got worse since i turned 33.

Dont have to worry about it anymore.

AnnPerkins · 30/04/2017 19:51

I have one of those epistick wand things and it's ok for my tache but it doesn't pick up the long, fine hairs on my neck. I always resort to tweezers but they're not very effective.

KreamyKoala · 30/04/2017 19:59

IPL laser. Might not be pcos at all

PoptartPoptart · 30/04/2017 20:30

I spent a fortune on electrolysis over a period of about 8 months.
Didn't work.

Honeybee79 · 30/04/2017 20:32

Pcos? That's the cause of mine. Endless waxing and plucking Sad

LightYears · 30/04/2017 20:36

Early forties the hairs moved from my legs to my face. Shock

zaalitje · 30/04/2017 20:40

Pcos or mine arrived asking with perimenopause.

Hormone related anyways

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/04/2017 20:57

Yes to pcos- I have it and I have the same problem. Those Epi-Spring things don't work for me. I ended up buying a lumea which also doesn't really work. Mine is so bad now that I have to do it every single day (either shave or pluck) and probably tweeze 50-60 hairs each day. Shaving quickly with a dry razor is the quickest, cheapest and most effective way to get rid. My gp doesn't believe it to be an issue as my pcos hasn't affected my fertility and I won't take the pill.

Ibelieveicanfry · 30/04/2017 20:57

Me too. Pcos also. Tweezers and my hand constantly hovering over my face feeling for them. Never heard of this wand thing. Off to Google.

Justmadeperfectflapjacks · 30/04/2017 20:59

Side line at the traveling shows?
Big dress to match big beard?
£2 a peep?

justkeepswimmingg · 30/04/2017 21:05

I'm 25, and get the odd few black hairs on my chin (ok, I pluck every other day!) Blush. I do have hormonal issues though, so thankfully I know I'm not turning into a man over night Grin

Blueflowers2011 · 30/04/2017 21:11

i get electrolysis done, seems to have lessened for me
