To think that it's okay to leave my DS in the car?

DS is 12. Shoot me if you like but I regularly leave him in the car outside petrol stations or when I go into a shop.

The way I see it is that he gets the bus home from school by himself, I sometimes leave him at home if I go to the local shops, send him to the shop for me, he also walks the dog with friends. Yet apparently I shouldn't leave him in the car outside a shop!

Actually, the other day I went in the car to drop DS off somewhere not intending to get out so wearing a scruffy t shirt, pj bottoms and DH's huge walking boots, only to discover half way down the road that we were running very low on petrol. I filled up but sent DS in to the shop to pay so as not to expose my choice of clothing. Definitely the way forward!
