to think couples wearing matching outfits is a bit odd

Just that really, having driven through town today and been struck by the number of mainly middle-aged couples wearing matching jackets and in some cases matching trousers too. DH has the fashion sense of a colour-blind mosquito, hates clothes shopping and doesn't give a fuck what he looks like, but even he resorts to stealing old clothes from his brother and BIL rather than asking me to pick up two of whatever I'm buying for myself.

OP posts:

Everyone can wear what they like it's nothing to do with you or anyone else.

pipsqueak25 · 28/04/2017 16:20

Hmm bit dodgy imo but then i don't like twins dressed a like either - judgy knicks on Grin

pipsqueak25 · 28/04/2017 16:21

fluffy yes, it is a free country to wear what you what, we are only giving an opinion, there are more important things to concern about Smile

Fruitcocktail6 · 28/04/2017 16:23

YANBU, it's quite cringe.

GooseFriend · 28/04/2017 16:24

It happens unintentionally sometimes.

ShatnersBassoon · 28/04/2017 16:24

My neighbours like to be matchy matchy. Usually Cotton Traders unisex garments.

Not only that but do so many older women seem to morph into their husbands? There seems to be squads of them who seriously could pass for their OH's brother.

I love it when people say this. Yeah alright then we'll just get rid of MN altogether then eh? And most internet forums come to think of it since nobody is allowed to have an opinion on anything that does not directly impact them. Hmm I don't think OP is suggesting a ban of any kind. She's made an observation and is wondering what other people think. Pretty standard idle chat really.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 28/04/2017 16:26

I was in ikea today & there was a couple, probably late teens/very early 20's, who were wearing a matching outfit. I was a bit Hmm but each to their own.

AntagonyAunt · 28/04/2017 16:27

My mum and dad do it unintentionally all of the time. I call them Posh and Becks. When other people do it I find it quite sweet and funny.

Ratatatouille · 28/04/2017 16:29

As it goes, I like it. Can just see me and DH recreating this classic Grin

I have the same type of coat as my husband. It's a great make with a limited amount of quite gender neutral styles...we both also own blue jeans. What can I say, we have impeccable taste.

I'm not sure I could find a man attractive who cared so little about his own appearance that he had to raid the cast offs of other family members, presuming we were both over 14 of course, but hey, just
an opinion

ShatnersBassoon · 28/04/2017 16:30

Yy to some older women becoming their husband's tribute act. Weird. I blame Cotton Traders for all of this. Golf/bowls as a shared hobby might be partially at fault too Grin

Laiste · 28/04/2017 16:32

I think it happens unintentionally sometimes too. Living together a long time means sometimes you start to influence each others colour choices ect. This can lead to 'matching outfits'. Been there Grin

DontBeASalmon · 28/04/2017 16:33

I do find it amusing.

DH doesn't care, but it's annoying when I have to get changed because we are all wearing the same combo - I don't know something like jeans + black top. I am less bothered when we are both wearing a black suit and a white shirt for some reasons (and it's not something that the kids would wear).

jay55 · 28/04/2017 16:34

When I was a teen a couple who ran my youth group would do this from time to time. At first it was super cringy. But later I found it sweet, they were lovely and it amused them.

MrsJayy · 28/04/2017 16:37

Oh the only matchy matchy ive seen is my friends inlaws they do outdoorsy stuff and have the same outdoor clothes and shoes and sweaters its very odd as they also look like they could be related a

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 28/04/2017 16:37

DP and I once went out both wearing Lynard Skynrd t-shirts by accident once and I was Blush that people might think we deliberately matched our clothes.

But I have noticed that matching clothes on older couples do tend to be a thing.

Many couples kind of 'merge' into one person though, matching coats, joint finances, joint facebook account and seem to be 'as one'.

If they're happy then I'm happy. It's kind of cute.

ZilphasHatpin · 28/04/2017 16:37

DH has the fashion sense of a colour-blind mosquito,

Grin mosquitos are well known for their terrible fashion sense!

Floorblob · 28/04/2017 16:37

I think it happens unintentionally to older people. My IL's have started doing it since they retired and are always surprised when it is pointed out to them!

emmalie · 28/04/2017 16:37

YANBU

SaucyJack · 28/04/2017 16:38

I find it quite refreshing to see women who've reached a stage in their life where they give no fucks about looking "pretty" before going out in public.

We all have matching Regatta fleeces in different colours for camping trips. I'm getting there meself.

TuddlesAndSisses · 28/04/2017 16:43

I sometimes do this to DH just to wind him up Grin for example my mum knitted the whole family matching jumpers (which are lovely) but occasionally when DH puts his on I will dress the kids and I in decoy jumpers when we leave the house. As soon as we reach our destination we all out on the ones to match DH and revel in his mild discomfort. When the kids are old enough to care about being cool it's going to be even more fun Grin

InvisibleKittenAttack · 28/04/2017 16:45

There was a thread recently about woman who pack for their DHs for holidays, which transpired that he majority of the packers also bought all their DHs clothes for him like he was a child . Lots of posters found this idea that once married, men stop making any decisions about their clothing perfectly normal and common.

So given that many men are dressed entirely in clothes their DWs have picked for them, it's hardly surprising many of the woman pick clothes they quite like themselves, so pick very similar things.

SpreadYourHappiness · 28/04/2017 16:45

I'd love me and DH to wear matching outfits Grin If I could find any I liked, I totally would!
