to think couples wearing matching outfits is a bit odd

Just that really, having driven through town today and been struck by the number of mainly middle-aged couples wearing matching jackets and in some cases matching trousers too. DH has the fashion sense of a colour-blind mosquito, hates clothes shopping and doesn't give a fuck what he looks like, but even he resorts to stealing old clothes from his brother and BIL rather than asking me to pick up two of whatever I'm buying for myself.

I am currently tormenting dh that once he gets his new bike we will HAVE to get matching helmets, leathers and waterproofs...also coordinated to the bike.

he would always mock that sort when chugging about on his motorbike as a layabout teen, he's not finding it quite so amusing now.

chestylarue52 · 28/04/2017 16:47

Aw I think it's kind of sweet 🙂

madcapcat · 28/04/2017 16:47

To be clear I don't mean similar outfits. I mean identical outfits - same colour only difference is the size. And it is fair to say I love DH for his intelligence wit and nice arse not his clothes...

I aspire to this. I really want DH and I to have matching anoraks and bobble hats. I think it'll look awesome.

DH does not share my dreams.

ExConstance · 28/04/2017 16:57

Anyone who wears clothes from Cotton Traders should be put out of their misery, even my 91 year old mother thinks they are frumpy and old ladyish.

5foot5 · 28/04/2017 16:59

Depends on context.

When DH and I are out walking we have identical waterproofs, just a different size. This wasn't intentional it's just we both needed new ones at the same time and when we visited outdoor shops this was the only style within our price range that ticked all the boxes.

UppityHumpty · 28/04/2017 17:01

Sometimes it's unintentional - for example before he met me, dh stayed away from coloured shirts. But I love colour and my dresses are in really nice jewelled shades which I guess he likes because he's bought shirts to match lol.

KC225 · 28/04/2017 17:02

What is cotton traders?

ShatnersBassoon · 28/04/2017 17:02

It's a shop.

YesILikeItToo · 28/04/2017 17:06

I like it when you see pairs of hillwalkers in the same thing - it says to me, "we thought we'd give going outdoors a bit of a try, so we went to the shop to get some kit, and this one was the best choice." I mean, why would you look around for another - just get out there and try the hills!

YesILikeItToo · 28/04/2017 17:08

Ah - cross post with 5foot5 - I'm right, I knew it!

Seren85 · 28/04/2017 17:10

I once arrived to pick up now DH to go to an ice hockey match to discover we were both wearing black jeans, boots, band hoodies, leather jackets and black beanie hats. We must have looked ridiculous. That said we do often end both wearing jeans/boots/band tshirts and leather jackets because it's the style we both dress in but it isn't 'matchy'.

This couple is adorable:

Meekonsandwich · 28/04/2017 20:18

Its not allowed in my house :/ and no it's not my choice lol!!
I have a leather jacket that I love and I had it first!
Dh asked for a leather jacket for his birthday and because it's his only coat he winges and whines if I want to wear mine, he thinks it's weird and people will stare lol he even offered to buy me a new coat!

pipsqueak25 · 28/04/2017 20:34

FelixtheMouse · 28/04/2017 20:35

Shatners the second I read the title I though "Howard & Hilda"!!

SweetChickadee · 28/04/2017 20:40

DH and I often end up looking inadvertently like Howard and Hilda - one has to go back up to change

we even did it on our first date Grin

redfairy · 28/04/2017 20:49

I want me and DH to have matching fleecy jackets with palaminos or wolves on 😁

BillSykesDog · 28/04/2017 20:51

It's clearly incredibly classy.

honeylulu · 28/04/2017 21:13

You should go to hawaii. It's full of Japanese couples on honeymoon wearing matching outfits! Odd but sweet.

blueamberuk · 01/05/2017 18:09

Does it matter what anyone wears if THEY are happy, this world is so very critical of things that really do not matter.

Deploycharitygoats · 01/05/2017 18:17

DH and I both turned up to an NCT in near identical jumpers. There was much "I got dressed first!" and "all my other jumpers are in the wash" and "but nothing else fits meee!" -ing, until we gave in an just got on the bloody bus looking like his and hers Where's Wally characters. Everyone else in the class was like this Hmm

Trills · 01/05/2017 18:18

If they are on a motorbike together than YAB completely U because it is essential that they match.

Crashbangwhatausername · 01/05/2017 18:37

I only came to check you weren't talking about me an dh today - it was an accident I tell you and I didn't even notice until the waitress commented how sweet we looked at lunch. It can happen to anyone

derxa · 01/05/2017 18:38

DH and I have matching Barbour jackets. I just remembered.
But we have been married for 30 years. Definitely Howard and Hilda.
