To want rain

I am in the IoW (and have been since 1 April). It hasn't rained once in that month, not even briefly. The garden is suffering (and other places). If this carries on, there'll be a hosepipe ban.

Blimey. We've just had a massive hail storm in Manchester.

CruCru · 25/04/2017 19:54

I'm so jealous. I'm going to be out with the hose tomorrow, watering my roses.

I'm on the Isle of Wight also. I have just been out watering my garden the lawn looks like late July (I don't water the lawn) just the veg. There were some lovely cumulus clouds building an hour ago but they have disappeared. On the veg patch/allotment thread posters have been experiencing sleet and hail and rushing to get small and tender plants in. Where are the April showers?

JellyWitch · 25/04/2017 20:03

My garden is desperate too. The short shower earlier wasn't going to do anything.

Pestilentialone · 25/04/2017 20:04

Massive hail storm has reached below the M4, should be IoW in half an hour or so.

elephantoverthehill · 25/04/2017 20:05

I'll look out for that one Pestil.

AlletrixLeStrange · 25/04/2017 20:08

We had a sprinkling of snow in the south west today! I love rain. Snuggly blankets, hot chocolate, sleep like a baby. Come back winter Shock

CruCru · 25/04/2017 20:09

Oooooooh - the BBC weather app says that there are going to be light rain showers from 3pm.

OP posts:
CruCru · 25/04/2017 20:09

Tomorrow, that is.

elephantoverthehill · 25/04/2017 20:11

Yes I saw that CruCru on the metoffice forecast. Fingers crossed.

WhooooAmI24601 · 25/04/2017 20:12

We had snow at 3am today. I woke up at 2.50am with a huge headache, got up to find painkillers and watched it snow for a whole hour. Madness.

notangelinajolie · 25/04/2017 20:13

Thunder, lighning and hailstones in S Manchester earlier. DD got home from school with seconds to spare.

elephantoverthehill · 25/04/2017 21:00

It is looking promising.

It's raining in Derby... you can have that.

I now have frizzy hair 😤

Willow2017 · 25/04/2017 21:17

Will send you some😀
Have had rain, hail and snow, hail, snow and then more rain in last 2 days.

bertsdinner · 25/04/2017 21:27

Me too, my garden is like concrete. Its hailed, rained and snowed a tiny bit today (West Yorks), so that's a start.

thecraftyfox · 25/04/2017 21:29

I flew back from Southampton to Manchester today. Southampton lovely sun, 16°c or so. Got off the plane 40 minutes later to snow/sleet, black skies and 9°c. I've forgotten how to do cold weather!

elephantoverthehill · 25/04/2017 22:12

According to the rain map and my observation Grin the rain has completely missed my bit of the Isle of Wight. West Wight might have had a drizzly bit.

UterusUterusGhali · 25/04/2017 22:14

Me too. I'm in hampshire. It's been lovely, but my poor allotment!

CruCru · 25/04/2017 23:47

Nope, we're in West Wight and haven't even had fog.

OP posts:
CruCru · 26/04/2017 16:20

Aha! It's started spotting.

witsender · 26/04/2017 16:22

I'm on IoW too, we had a shower yesterday and a small one today. I love the summer when we live on the beach, but I do miss having the fire lit and hibernating.

RiversrunWoodville · 26/04/2017 16:28

YANBU we are in NI and other areas have had some good showers but not us, we have really sandy ground and the crops are really struggling to catch (veg farm)

hmcAsWas · 26/04/2017 16:34

It takes 1 and 3/4 hours to adequately water all my shrubs (there's a lot of them) 😬🔫 - just across the water from you OP on the mainland, and similarly no rain for weeks.

Elendon · 26/04/2017 16:50

Had a massive Hailstorm last evening south of Manchester (waves to ikiboo). Glorious afternoon and within minutes I had the lights on and couldn't see out the windows for the hail. Within the next five minutes it was back to sunshine again. Never seen anything like it.

Check out radio 4 Today programme, this date, 26 April, for an item on climate change and the impact on gardens. Should start around 8:17am or thereabouts. Fascinating.

I hope you get the rain soon. But I did read that certain parts of the south and the South West (Devon and Cornwall) are becoming sub Tropical, so I would expect some rain soon.

Imagine if you were dependent totally on the rains for your livelihood such as those in certain countries in Africa and in certain states in India.
