Help. If you were a three year old, where would you hide £100??

MIL came on Friday, stayed, and went back home this afternoon. She's just now called to say that she has discovered herself £100 lighter (five £20 notes). Apparently she left said notes on a low shelf where toddler had easy access FFS. She swears she has searched all her own possessions from top to bottom and can't find the bloody money. So, where might you put £100 if you were three??

My toddler would put it out the cat flap

PeaFaceMcgee · 23/04/2017 23:51

Hmmm. I think then, on the balance of probabilities, she's confused.

3 is old enough to spot & remember some cash and it's nowhere to be found.

FairytalesAreBullshit · 23/04/2017 23:53

She just left the money on a shelf?

Crapuccino · 23/04/2017 23:53

Honu This is entirely possible too. DH asked her to go through her bags and suitcase again and to talk him trough everywhere she'd been in the house but she started getting quite cross with him and telling him not to insult her intelligence or treat her like a child. As far as she's concerned, she's checked everything from her side so the rest of it is up to us and if we don't find it, it's because we didn't look hard enough.

I would be very, very tempted to invite her round to look for it herself and then sit back and enjoy Wink

M5tothesouthwest · 24/04/2017 00:00

Can you not ask the child?

ilovechoc1987 · 24/04/2017 00:04

Check

All bags and purses
Bins
Beds
Inside toys
Down small cracks
Down sofas

Tell your 3 year old if they're able to understand that the money belongs to Father Christmas and he's asked for it back.

BadKnee · 24/04/2017 00:29

Toy kitchen
Bin, (esp a swing bin)
Anywhere you can post it, (floorboards, gaps)

My beautiful diamond tennis bracelet was dangled and disappeared down the plughole. Never found it in spite of dismantling plumbing. (Caught her doing same thing with a gold chain - that's how I found out)

TheClaws · 24/04/2017 03:03

Jacket pockets?

HeiLala · 24/04/2017 03:36

Between any floorboards where there's a gap.

lazycrazyhazy · 27/04/2017 00:22

My DGS (almost 3) also posts things out of the cat flap....

GinIsIn · 27/04/2017 00:25

Letterbox, cat flap or flushed?

lalalalyra · 27/04/2017 00:34

I think it's most likely your MIL is confused, but since your DS thinks notes are Daddies (it's the opposite in our house lol, DD took 'paper money' from her Dad as the paper money is mine) I'd leave a note or two out when your DH wasn't around and see what DS does.

Anything that belongs to Daddy in this house goes in the black coat in the hall that he only wears to weddings and funerals or under the keyboard on his desk.

befuddledgardener · 27/04/2017 08:25

So tell your MIL you've spent 4 hours looking for the cash and can't find it. So suggest you all wait a few weeks and see if it turns up.

befuddledgardener · 27/04/2017 08:26

Tell her you don't have any more time to look

corythatwas · 27/04/2017 08:31

I recently spent 5 hours looking for my library card and finally found it down the side of an armchair which I had already felt 4 times (but clearly with my fingers at the wrong angle.

ChocolateSherberts2017 · 27/04/2017 08:40

My ds would hide everything in the washing machine.
Dd would slide things under the chest of drawers or wardrobe as there is an inch or so gap.

skerrywind · 27/04/2017 08:41

Why did she leave the money there?

Did she even leave the money there?

A sounds a bit odd.

I would stop looking.

Justmadeperfectflapjacks · 27/04/2017 08:44

Bet ya she has found it and just doesn't want to lose face by telling you.

Sparrowlegs248 · 27/04/2017 08:44

On top of the washing machine? Or anything else at toddler height?

RockyBird · 27/04/2017 08:48

My dad handed me his holiday pay which was 3 weeks wages when I was about 2.5 (he may have stopped at the pub on the way home).

Following day parents were searching everywhere for the cash. They asked me where it was and I wouldn't tell them, saying it was MY money.

They found it under my bed all spread out in lines Grin

Goodythreeshoes · 27/04/2017 09:16

Have you checked the recycling in case it's between the pages of a magazine or newspaper that MIL was reading?
Sorry if this has been suggested before.

Funnyface1 · 27/04/2017 09:21

I know you'll have checked all these but under rugs, in dvd cases and in anywhere it could be posted. Like a crack in a cupboard door (without opening it). This is so much worse because you don't know if there's actually any money to find!

paxillin · 27/04/2017 09:21

Posted through radiator slits, into DVD drives, through the floor boards or out of the house through the post flap.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 27/04/2017 09:23

i reckon ds gave it to dh and he's keeping quiet!

If she's not short of money then just tell her, it's MIA, either she never had it, or she lost it...whether that's in your house or somewhere else makes no odds, so if it turns up at yours you will reunite her with it

I'd certainly not reimburse her!
