To not know who the hell the vote for?

As far as I can see my options are:

Tory - probably get the best deal for brexit but I utterly abhor some of their current policies and the way lives are being destroyed

Labour - an inefficient opposition with nothing to suggest they would be any better in government. Their leader is, at best, naive. As an aside I had vowed to never vote for them after they brought in university fees but that's small fry these days!

Lib Dem - no idea what they are doing as shown with the coalition. Plus my local candidate never bothers to get his leaflets proof read which doesn't give you faith in his efficiency if he were in power.

UKIP - should no longer be in existence. They got what they wanted - brexit- so no longer have a point. The trouble with single issue parties is when that issue is gone they really need to disband.

BNP - no. Just no.

Greens - a wasted vote.

Independent - see above. Also in a government run by parties even if they get in will never be more than a backbencher.

Mrs Pritchard's Purple Party - sadly not real.

Have I missed anything?

As far as I can tell, Theresa May won't be doing the actual hard graft negotiations of Brexit. So her leadership/negotiation skills are irrelevant.

Littlebunnyboy130 · 19/04/2017 21:43

Labour.

DorisMcSweeney · 19/04/2017 21:45

If you want totally ineffective leadership and chaos, vote Labour

Believeitornot · 19/04/2017 21:56

Has Theresa May really been an effective and strong leader? Not so convinced myself.

Violetcharlotte · 19/04/2017 22:05

I think you have to stick by your principles and vote for the party whose ideology you believe in. I don't rate Jeremy Cronyn as a leader (understatement of the century!) but I respect his views as a socialist.

The things important that are most important to me are the health service and social care, housing and education, so I'll be voting for Labour.

Oblomov17 · 19/04/2017 22:14

I don't want to vote for any of them. I felt like this last time aswell.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 19/04/2017 22:52

The problem for remainders (of which i am one) is our vote will be split between lib dem green and labour - giving the leavers via the Tory party - a solid win.

Angryangryyoungwoman · 19/04/2017 22:53

Vote labour.

Iwillorderthefood · 19/04/2017 23:02

Voting Lib, no way voting Tory. I hate what the Tories are up to.

MipMipMip · 19/04/2017 23:19

Have to be honest, I need a bit more convincing than to just be told "vote x". WHY should I vote x?!

The issue is less who might run the country but more what deals might they need to do to stay in power.

A minority labour government shored up by the SNPolice could be horrendous. Nicola Sturgeon and Alex Salmond extracting every penny they can from Jeremy Corby as he struggles to keep control of his deeply fractured party? Even my darkest nightmares don't go that far.

I am reluctantly pondering a tory vote.

Goldmandra · 19/04/2017 23:36

If you want an NHS of any description in the future don't vote Tory.

If you don't want a huge number of families plunged into abject poverty or don't want to see people with disabilities left without even the most basic care don't vote Tory.

If you don't want an education system that gives all the best opportunities to the children of rich parents, don't vote Tory.

I think the best outcome for our country right now would be a Lib Dem/ Labour coalition government during which time, hopefully one party or the other would come up with a leader that can unite their party and the country.

A move further to the right which is what would happen under another Tory government is frankly terrifying.

The only way this will be achieved is tactical voting. You find out who is most likely to defeat the Tories in your own constituency and vote for them.

I don't want to live in a country where the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer or where fascism starts to be acceptable, whatever the Brexit deal we might end up with. Brexit is, quite frankly, the least of our worries.

ExplodedCloud · 19/04/2017 23:39

It's hard to point you in the right direction for you without knowing what you want or what you have? Are you in a safe seat? Are you happy with your MP? If you voted Labour previously do you still feel broadly in line with that excepting the fees obviously?

Gottagetmoving · 20/04/2017 08:09

We should be voting on policies not personalities.
All most people know about Corbyn is what the right wing media tell them.
Look at the policies and decide whose will help the average person in this country.
There are millions of people struggling, the nhs is struggling, and the Tories are making them struggle more.
With an increased majority the Tories will destroy a lot more lives.

Goldfishjane · 20/04/2017 11:16

what worries me is that Labour might also come after ordinary people.

I had a brief friendship with a woman from a very rich family and she and her friends all voted Labour. No one would ever get their hands on their money, they had so much they would always find a way to get out of paying anything.

She would say to me - with an income slightly below average - "don't you want to pay more tax for the disadvantaged?" - Um, no, I couldn't make the rent. (I had to give up being friends with her because after she came round and saw my flat, she realised that I was part of a world she couldn't fathom and I could see it on her face and I knew it was over, much as I tried not to do the inverted snob thing).

so much as it looks like a straight choice for me to vote Labour, I can't be sure it is. And I think it was part of Labour's plan for London to become like Monte Carlo wasn't it - they wanted to attract tons of BTL buyers and I still don't know why.

elisa2502 · 20/04/2017 11:19

Corbyn is a disappointment and should not be leading the labour party. But please please look at the state of the NHS and Education under the Conservatives. I will be voting for labour for these reasons

Gottagetmoving · 20/04/2017 13:12

Corbyn is a disappointment and should not be leading the labour party

In what way is he a disappointment? What has he done wrong?

LellyMcKelly · 20/04/2017 13:20

I'm voting for whoever will stand up and get us out of this Brexit clusterfuck. I'd vote for the devil himself.

ExplodedCloud · 20/04/2017 13:23

Interesting thing on WatO just now about people actually hearing Corbyn speak at a meeting and taking questions. Seems to be reassuring.

Goldfishjane · 20/04/2017 13:32

Lelly "I'm voting for whoever will stand up and get us out of this Brexit clusterfuck - I'd vote for the devil himself."

no one is actually standing for that. Also, suppose there was another ref and 70% of people voted for it - would you still say you want someone to get us out of it?

also, the voting for the devil to get out of Brexit concerns me. Some people might find themselves doing that if the devil stands for it - so to speak. and who knows what devil might end up in charge?

This is partly why I hate this election - it's not really an election. If they want to run ref 2 they should just run it. Actually in some ways it's almost ref 3....

pushingthroughcracks · 20/04/2017 13:39

Green have no plans to save the planet. They haven't a clue what they are doing.

AtrociousCircumstance · 20/04/2017 13:41

Vote tactically. Any vote which will keep the Tories out.

Their policies are the grossest celebration of greed and selfishness. They perpetuate injustice. They feed the rich and make things worse and worse for the poor.

ExplodedCloud · 20/04/2017 13:43

Goldfish it is indeed mad to be voting purely on the basis of Brexit. No party has the real ability to deliver on any promises they make over Brexit. We can take any position we like, short of just walking away, but it has to negotiated with the EU.
Meanwhile smoke and mirrors obscure the reality of 5 more years of this shower who got us here.

user1492679224 · 20/04/2017 14:23

OP I would wait and see what the outcome of the French election is. If Marine Le Penn wins that will help Brexit enormously so the pressure to vote Conservative will be off. I swore I would never vote Conservative or Labour again, they have been the main parties and just look at the state this country is in now! They will never get another chance to do any more damage if I had my way!

Goldfishjane · 20/04/2017 14:58

re Greens
I tried corresponding with them in local elections and London Mayoral elections. They had nothing to say. I appreciate parties need time to grow and develop but when there's no contact you don't exactly feel inspired.

also I think they run scared from the overpopulation issue which doesn't give them any "green" credentials at all.
