To not know who the hell the vote for?

As far as I can see my options are:

Tory - probably get the best deal for brexit but I utterly abhor some of their current policies and the way lives are being destroyed

Labour - an inefficient opposition with nothing to suggest they would be any better in government. Their leader is, at best, naive. As an aside I had vowed to never vote for them after they brought in university fees but that's small fry these days!

Lib Dem - no idea what they are doing as shown with the coalition. Plus my local candidate never bothers to get his leaflets proof read which doesn't give you faith in his efficiency if he were in power.

UKIP - should no longer be in existence. They got what they wanted - brexit- so no longer have a point. The trouble with single issue parties is when that issue is gone they really need to disband.

BNP - no. Just no.

Greens - a wasted vote.

Independent - see above. Also in a government run by parties even if they get in will never be more than a backbencher.

Mrs Pritchard's Purple Party - sadly not real.

Have I missed anything?

Cannot understand why anyone would want to keep the Tories in power... must because they are doing such a brilliant job with the NHS, education, mental health, making u-turns on their promises, election fraud...

I am voting Labour.

Doilooklikeatourist · 19/04/2017 19:54

I'm voting conservative, we're in to the brexit now , Theresa May has to have our backing to get the best deal for us all
I didn't / don't want to leave the EU , but we had a referendum and that's what the majority wanted , so we have to be brave and strong and get through this with the best deal

user1471596238 · 19/04/2017 19:54

Not forgetting the programme of cuts, which seemed to have caused a lot of woe without actually doing much at all for the economy.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 19/04/2017 19:55

Wait. Read their manefestos. Read up about the candidates standing in your constituency. Think about what is important to you.

mirime · 19/04/2017 19:55

clairewilliams999 we earn about 33,000 combined and I would gladly pay more tax to stop what this government is doing to disabled people, to the NHS and to Social Care.

Shitonmyshoe · 19/04/2017 20:02

Well said mirime

MipMipMip · 19/04/2017 20:04

I expect so Ghosty! But this is largely cathartic - I think we all feel thoroughly useless and disgusted at the world is need a good rant.

OP posts:
MipMipMip · 19/04/2017 20:08

I agree with vote for your candidate but assuming it will be the same candidates as usual I don't like or respect any of them. So no help there!

And as brexit will happen no matter who gets in i think we should try for the best possible version of it. I just don't know who that will be.

Why is voting green a "wasted vote".

If everyone voted green you could achieve a lot. Maybe save the planet for your kids?

For heavens don't vote Tory. Pack of liars hell bent on a power and land grab.

Lib dems don't have to be in coalition if everyone voted for them either. They'd be in power.

Your vote counts, no vote is a waste.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 19/04/2017 20:17

I am seriously thinking of voting Libdem. Labour just have nobody credible at the helm and are in chaos. Tories are doing nasty stuff to the education system and NHS. I kind of feel sympathy for Nick Clegg as he went into a coalition without actually having the power to make changes as Tories were leading everything, Cameron basically let Nick take the flack for all the unpopular decisions, over which the Libdems had no control.

ExplodedCloud · 19/04/2017 20:21

Doilooklikeatourist but why does she need 'our backing to get the best deal'? How does that work? The outcome doesn't affect what the EU will let us have. The negotiations will be done by civil servants. I don't see it makes the slightest difference.

TaliDiNozzo · 19/04/2017 20:24

I couldn't live with myself if I voted Tory. I sadly live in a stronghold of theirs so won't make a lot of difference what I do around here but I would still feel ashamed if I did it.

Historically I have been a floating voter between Labour and the LibDems but not sure what I'll be doing this time. Fucking can't stand Corbyn though so likely LibDems tbh.

clairewilliams999 · 19/04/2017 20:24

vote labour and let all the people who voted leave understand what fucked really means.

Very clever. How is your face getting on with that cut nose?

BMW6 · 19/04/2017 20:28

Labour are pro Brexit..........

ExplodedCloud · 19/04/2017 20:34

I'm not quite sure where you're getting that from BMW
Corbyn was ambivalent I agree but the PLP as a whole were more pro EU than the Tories.

LovelyBath77 · 19/04/2017 20:43

I'm not sure. We are in an area where it could be Lib Dem or Tory. A remain area. The Tory MP helped me with my PIP, when the DWP 'lost' my won appeal paperwork. he sorted it out for me. So may vote for them and maybe for the Lib Dems.

clairewilliams999 · 19/04/2017 20:46

clairewilliams999 we earn about 33,000 combined and I would gladly pay more tax to stop what this government is doing to disabled people, to the NHS and to Social Care.

How lovely. I'm sure that Corbyn's government would be so effective that all additional tax taken from this policy, would go to just and noble causes. He's proven his leadership ability so I'm sure he'll get all of the departments, councils and factions that make up the British state working nicely together and get the money to those most in need. It definitely won't all get wasted on inefficiency. Not that I am defending the cuts you mentioned.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 19/04/2017 20:57

The timing is disastrous for those of us non brexiters but May knows this which is why she's timed the GE for now. She's shafted us.
She is trying to press ahead with hard Brexit ( e.g a bullish divorce) but running into concern in many places and objections from the remain voters and the Lords. Despite these concerns she is riding a high of popularity amongst many voters for being ‘decisive’ and ‘statesmanlike’ in leading us into .... what, of course, is the key question and many feel it is into an abyss of economic, social and political isolation. However, she is trying to capture the sentiment of support for her that exists at the moment. The Labour share of the vote is now predicted to be as low as 23% - catastrophic.
Likely outcome: only way the left can secure power and reverse or soften Brexit is by cobbling together an alliance of fractured cabals who can’t stand each other … but by far most likely consequent outcome is that May will romp home with an unprecedented majority giving her the mandate to enforce a truly damaging Brexit (anyone seen the pound lately – oh sorry no, must have fallen through to China) ... pass me the wine.

I will however, as I always have done, be voting Labour.

MipMipMip · 19/04/2017 21:05

Under there isn't a chance a Green getting in here. And even if they did it's the same as with independents - you need a party behind you to have any power.

As it happens I have a real problem with the party rule we have in this country - I think MPs should vote according to their constituents wishes or at least their consciences. But you need the party size and whips to make deals, all legislation is made bond compromise. Basically the current system sucks but I don't know a better one!

Labour. Nhs welfare state etc.

Would never vote Tory I hate what they stand for and most people I know that vote them are not kind people and want to punish those underneath them .

motherofdaemons · 19/04/2017 21:23

I like my MP so ill be voting for him (labour). Suggest everyone forgets the bigger picture and votes at a local level.

BonnieF · 19/04/2017 21:24

I normally vote Labour, but not this time. Corbyn isn't a leader and would be hopelessly out of his depth as PM. I can't support him.

Lib Dem or Green for me.

nannyafrica · 19/04/2017 21:37

Never have before but Lib Dem.

Believeitornot · 19/04/2017 21:40

Who is your local MP?

I just checked mine and he got a massive majority in 2015 (24,000) but in the last 4 elections before that, it was hovering around the 6-7k mark. So he benefitted from a massive swing. This gives me hope that he could be unseated and 2015 was just a blip.

So depending on my local candidates I'm going for lib dems or labour. I have said I'd read manifestos (which I will) but I'm voting whichever way is more likely to unseat the Tory.
