*Trigger Warning* AIBU to not understand how this YouTuber isn't being investigated for child abuse?

So I actually found out about this channel via another large forum I post on. Essentially, a YouTube channel which is called DaddyOFive (it's reasonably large, around three quarters of a million subscribers) centres around a blog made by the father, with 5 children. The upshot of it is, people were angry about how the family, lead by the father; bully one of their children Cody, and pass it off as just 'good old fashioned parenting!'

At first until I checked out the videos I honestly thought it couldn't be that bad. I was horribly wrong. Some of the videos are entitled:
Dad burns Cody's Pokemon cards
Dad destroys son's DS
Dad forces son to throw away his toys
I'm sending Cody to military school

In their most recent video, because Cody had been bad (smeared poop on the walls; a recognised sign of abuse and distress), they took all the other kids to DisneyLand.

These videos are horrific, and despite them being located in the US, I really feel like CPS should be investigating and YouTube should shut the channel down for child abuse.

If you can bear to watch the videos, the guy's name is DaddyOFive, and I'd urge you to take a few minutes and report their videos for child abuse. I really don't understand how in this day and age, this kind of thing isn't investigated more quickly. The child is sobbing, and regularly in horrendous distress at the bullying at the hands of his parents and siblings, so these videos could trigger people; that's why I haven't directly linked them and why I've placed a warning on the top of my post.

Signed the petition, and emailed. I just hope that children services get involved and help poor Cody, rather than just YouTube removing the videos and the abuse continuing.

JessKM · 19/04/2017 00:01

Wooooo big up defranco! I don't care who he is, I LIKE HIM

Megbert · 19/04/2017 00:01

People on Imgur and Reddit have said they are reporting too.

SaveMeBarry · 19/04/2017 00:04

Oh I have done jess I just remain to be convinced there will be a result for those children other than the parents being more careful about the videos they put up. The parents being slated on social media might give us some feelings of satisfaction but it's not a result with regard to those children's abusive situation.

JessKM · 19/04/2017 00:14

Those children need help. I'd encourage anyone who can stomach it to watch the original defranco video as it sums every thing up very well and tastefully, something needs to be achieved here!

Cessj · 19/04/2017 00:15

I actually screamed out loud and burst into tears when I saw that father pushed his son Cody into the shelves.

As someone who survived a childhood of physical and emotional abuse, only after being taken into care at aged 11, after years of non-intervention by social services (my brothers and sister were fine, so I must have been telling lies about why I was constantly covered in bruises, wet myself at the sight of my father, lived under the dining room table so as to keep myself out of his sight) I find this so hard to watch.

Despite being non-violent and pro-gun control, honestly? If I had a gun I would put a bullet through those parents' heads, just as a prank, you understand.

It might seem a joke to them, but the harm they are causing to this boy, now, and the lasting damage they will do, is just ..

My parents had the same tactics, pick on one child, and isolate me from the others, and keep my siblings in fear that it could just happen to them if they didn't step into line...

This is just sick, and those parents deserve to be thrown into jail and the key thrown into the ocean...

JessKM · 19/04/2017 00:16

Flowers CessJ

Sometimes it takes someone like you, who has been there and survived, to get people to listen!!!

Cessj · 19/04/2017 00:25

JessKM, Thank you for your care ... I'm 56 years old and I'm still fucked up from all the abuse even after all these years and having made what many would consider a good life for myself.

Sitting here bawling eyes out after watching the DeFranco show (I don't think I could stomach the YOUTUBE videos ) because it brings back so many bad memories...

Heading to the G&T...

Cessj · 19/04/2017 00:28

HalfShellHero, yes, please do share via FB and provide the link too...

DeleteOrDecay · 19/04/2017 00:30

Oh this is just awfulSad I don't think I can bear to watch the videos, those screen shots are bad enough. I'll be emailing the address up thread tomorrow. How anyone can watch this for 'entertainment' baffles me.

Unhurried · 19/04/2017 00:56

Signed the petition using the link on page 4.
I cannot bring myself to watch the YT clips as I'm appalled just by the descriptions from others who have posted here.
Cody AND his siblings are being abused in this hellish household, Cody by being mercilessly bullied and beaten and his siblings by being encouraged to join the father (and mother) in metering out such awful, awful acts.

LockedOutOfMN · 19/04/2017 00:59

Sounds horrible, never heard of him until now. I Googled DaddyOFive and this was the first link.

octoberfarm · 19/04/2017 01:34

Just wanted to post a quick update - I'm living in the US and just called Montgomery County SS in Maryland to report this. The lady on the other end of the line said that they're very aware of the concerns, and that over 100 people have filed reports this evening. Child Protective Services are officially investigating. Thanks so much OP for putting this out there. Awful, awful people.

Lionking1981 · 19/04/2017 01:40

I think the days of them making money from picking on their kids are well and truly over. The way they talk to that little boy is awful. I cant believe they left him to go to disney with the rest of the family, blaming him for behavior they have created. So cruel ! The saddest clip I saw was of him trying to do his Maths homework whilst the parents try over and over to wind him up and convince him he is being sent away and you see him frantically turning over the pages, not taking anything in. I quite like a light hearted prank (the recent clip of the elderly woman squirting water in her husbands face with her 'magic trick' is an example of a funny little prank) but spending 20 minutes doing your utmost to make a kid break down is just cruelty.

OldandJaded · 19/04/2017 02:08

Reported.
Even in the remotest chance these kids are acting and 'in on it' (which I don't think for one second) what kind of emotional fucktard gets entertainment value from child abuse??? Simulated or real???
How has this been allowed to go on? At best it's in extremely poor taste entertainment and probably exciting all kinds of deviant perverts and at worst its child abuse that is being filmed and broadcasted!! What the fuck?!

ilovechoc1987 · 19/04/2017 02:40

Iv watched the video where all the kids agree that they're not being abused but to be honest I don't think they will fully understand what their parents are doing to them until they're adults.

I had a crappy childhood and it took till I was 29 and a mum of 3 before I realised what my parents had done to me, and how the little mistakes I'd made in life and the regrets I had were partly down to them.

The constant shouting and the moany disconnected tone of the mother gets my goat. The way she gets involved and backs up the dad is really bullying and evil.

The other thing that pisses me off is that they have such a huge lovely house, but look like a pair of lazy slobs (house was the same in first vid so can't be down to YouTube money).
Why is it in america they all have such massive houses with big expensive looking beds??.

And the other thing that annoys me, is that they convince their kids they're good parents because they buy them stuff.
Well love is free and they don't give them any of that!.

Lynnm63 · 19/04/2017 02:47

Daddyof5 just tweeted they're not posting a video tonight. Good, maybe they won't post anymore. With luck the next video will be him and his equally vile wife being led away in handcuffs.

ShoesHaveSouls · 19/04/2017 03:26

I never heard of this, but I just watched some of those videos. Not much - but enough. They don't look like fun or pranks to me, they look like a horrible man yelling at his kids.

I watched the haters video - it's like a lesson in gaslighting. Those children have been told they can't be being abused because they live in a nice house and have Xboxes.

That is one of the worst things I've ever seen. Watching kids visibly upset, screaming and being yelled at is not fun.

HalfShellHero · 19/04/2017 07:04

Lynnm63 for some reason that makes me very uneasy ...I hope everyone's ok in that house tonight. Sad

BendydickCuminsnatch · 19/04/2017 07:11

One of his tweets: My kids have been upset all day due to Constant death threats fearing their mom and dad are going to be killed

Why the fuck tell them you've received death threats?? Fucking moron.

I've watched Philip DiFranco for about a decade, he's like the king of YouTube, he rules :)

BendydickCuminsnatch · 19/04/2017 07:17

Wow the twitter conversations are terrifying, way more supporters than not! But I suppose that makes sense, all his followers will be posting to support him. Just scary that there are thousands of people like him in the world.

HalfShellHero · 19/04/2017 07:29

Between this and Onision amd youtube does have a paedophilia problem , it's a hard cold look at you tubes priorities or lack of them. Although in this instance I don't want to hear the channels been taken down I'd still worry for Cody.

WeDoNotSow · 19/04/2017 07:47

To be honest though, the bulk of the supporters look like kids. They prob think he's a cool dad as he buys them electronics and has lulz

HalfShellHero · 19/04/2017 07:51

Similar fan based to onision actually

EatSpamAmandaLamb · 19/04/2017 07:59

Yes watching the video gives them views however much of ad revenue is now based on time watched and complete videos viewed. So opening, immediately pausing and reporting won't bring them too much in revenue.
