Who to vote for in General Election?

Aargh.

Would normally vote for Lib Dems (feel like I should apologise for this!), and voted for them in the last two elections. In an ideal world, I'd vote for them or Labour, but I'm not keen on Jeremy Corbyn's (or Tim Farron's) leadership. Really don't want to vote Conservative.

Wondering perhaps about voting for the Women's Equality Party? They seem pretty good, but are still quite a small party.

What does everyone else think?

I live in a long standing Tory area. V predominantly a MC town.

I've always been a labour supporter but switched to lib dems )which was the year coalition took place!)

I want to vote lib dems again. However labour have more chance of unseating tories and they do have some policies I am 100% on board with locally.

My Tory MP is the governor of that freeschool that's often talked about on Mn! The one with the directed lunchtime conversation!

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 18/04/2017 20:13

The Tories are not our problem. They are not the monsters of the West from Westmonster. Nikki has been twisting her way round this one, not using her own powers and blaming the monsters of Westminster whilst repeatedly ignoring the will of her own parliament and not passing legislation for a year. Zhe has to have someone to demonise I suppose.

The first munster has been taking the piss I'm afraid. I think scottish people are not stupid enough to fall for it. It's like threatening your kids (citizens) with the bogeyman (big bad tories) every time you want them to do something your way, whilst simultaneously feeding the bogeyman steroids (SNP elbow jabbing at westminster to provoke tension)and giving the bogeyman a key and the alarm code for your house (excitedly passing on cuts and refusing to use powers to address them)

Poisonous woman.

The nationalists got Thatcher in too. They love it.

Pettywoman · 18/04/2017 20:15

I think I'll agree to disagree Nippy. I voted no in Indyref but I can't agree that the Tories aren't our problem.

TheCraicDealer · 18/04/2017 20:26

If you're swinging in Scotland (a ho ho!) then seriously think about voting Tory. Aul Ruth's alright and capable, and if anything this Corbyn debacle has shown you need a strong opposition.

If your hand literally won't let you put an X in the Tory box then look at Labour, LibDems, Greens, whoever- but don't let the SNP rest on their laurels.

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 18/04/2017 20:43

Apparently Vince Cable's making a comeback to fight for his seat in Twickenham :)

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 18/04/2017 20:45

Greens said in their manifesto they would not allow another referendum to happen for party political reasons and that a second indyref would only happen on the will of the people. If the people demanded it only then would they support it.
The first sniff on concessions on land reforms and they were straight up the snps arse. Without the greens the snp wouldn't have got it through.

I'd vote anyone but the snp or the greens.

To be honest while I admire the other parties stance on Europe if you give them leverage they will just fuck up the negotiations, which will not make brexit better and let's face it we will all benefit from a good deal. I think in this case even where I would prefer a more left leaning govt the only sensible option to preserve the interests of the whole nation is conservative atm.

Pettywoman · 18/04/2017 20:52

I'd be dead before I vote Tory.

colalight · 18/04/2017 20:57

I'm a conservative voter in Scotland. I'll be voting tatically though.

labour to keep the SNP out. Labour and SNP are the only two with a chance of winning in this country. I like neither party but loathe SNP the most.

SeaWitchly · 18/04/2017 21:05

I would say do your research and vote wisely people.
I'll be voting for Jeremy Corbyn and Labour.
Cannot understand how anyone could contemplate voting the Tories in for another term to be honest.

feellikeanalien · 18/04/2017 21:12

I live in a Tory seat which was Lib Dem for years before the last election.

Previously I have voted Lib Dem (for tactical reasons) but my problem is that I cannot bring myself to vote for a party lead by Tim Farron who makes me cringe every time I look at him.

I think it will have to be Labour as I actually do like some of Jeremy Corbyn's policies. (and that is who I would have voted for in the past if there had been no need for tactical voting!)

I do actually like Theresa May as a person and but have never voted Tory and could not bring myself to do so.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 18/04/2017 21:14

I'll probably look at it tactically in the end too, just to keep the snp out. The conservatives made big gains last time and labour did very poorly. I'm going to check closer the the time.

In the council elections I'm probs going labour 1, conservative 2, UKIP 3 and leaving greens and the snp and the independent (snps in disguise) off. I prefer this way of voting. It ensures that every vote is used. It also makes sure that if you have support for something like the united kingdom you will be properly represented even if you are split between more than one party.

RortyCrankle · 18/04/2017 21:17

I will be voting Conservative.

I'm not sure why Remainers think voting for eg the Libdems will reverse Brexit because the triggering of the A50 is irreversible. Even nice but dim Tim should get it but he seems to be having problems with comprehension.

Plus, of course, the Conservatives will win the election with an increased majority.

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 18/04/2017 21:23

Thanks so much for the Google doc link Mix :) did you make it?!

I feel the same re: Theresa May, feellikeanalien.

I hate STV WeeNippy It's that which gave the SNP the big platform. For my Council ward 4 seats but only 2 Labour candidates. Translates as SNP 2nd place and nowhere under FPTP to 2 seats Labour and 2 seats SNP. It makes sense for N Ireland to preserve Nat/Unionist joint Representation at Stormont but in Scotland it has caused / severely exacerbated the Nat/Unionist split.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 18/04/2017 21:24

Exactly. It would just still be brexit, but muddled dragged out and poorly executed.

MercyMyJewels · 18/04/2017 21:27

I will non tactically vote SNP, WeeNippy

What a frightfully clever name you have

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 18/04/2017 21:28

Re: the reversal of article 50, I've just found this article. Although I agree it is unfortunately unlikely that a) the Tories will lose the election and b) that the other EU leaders will agree to us reversing article 50 and to treating us the Dame as they did before the Brexit vote.

OP posts:
UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 18/04/2017 21:28

Never really thought about it that way howabout but iswym.

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 18/04/2017 21:29

*treating us the same, even. Autocorrect 🙄

KerryLeanne84 · 18/04/2017 21:36

The amount of people saying they plan to vote Lib Dem is insane to me.

Even overlooking their awful track record of shacking up with the tories and helping them to push through so much disastrous stuff.

Even overlooking the fact that that their 'vote for us to stop a hard brexit' guff is transparently nonsense and a cynical ploy to get the votes of remainers who don't look very hard at who they're voting for.

Even overlooking all that, can you really ignore the fact that they think it's acceptable that their leader is a homophobe?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 18/04/2017 21:37

I agree that Tim Farron looked really bad in that C4 interview tonight.

CrowyMcCrowFace · 18/04/2017 21:39

Holding my nose & using a proxy vote for the Lib Democrats - I'm overseas.

Registered to vote in North Norfolk where my parents live, so it's a waste of time voting Labour there.

It'll be a ghastly Tory landslide. I'm just selfishly relieved to have already emigrated tbh.

SallyGinnamon · 18/04/2017 21:39

Over the years I've voted Labour, Lib Dem, Tory and Green often for the specific MP.

Last time I decided to take a scientific approach so spent ages on a website where I ranked each issue and whether I was for or against .... and ended up split 4 ways!

This time I'm hoping for a party to come out with a soft Brexit approach. I voted remain but accept that England voted Brexit so I'd like it to be a soft exit 😢.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 18/04/2017 21:39

Cheers jewels!!! I like it.

I will non tactically vote SNP, WeeNippy

Shock Gin Wine Cake Gin Wine Cake aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh run for the hills!!!

Well I really like her, but I could never vote SNP (joking obvs can't stand her-it's just what people say about the tories) Grin

People vote for what they think is best I suppose Hmm
