Who to vote for in General Election?

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 18/04/2017 12:20

Aargh.

Would normally vote for Lib Dems (feel like I should apologise for this!), and voted for them in the last two elections. In an ideal world, I'd vote for them or Labour, but I'm not keen on Jeremy Corbyn's (or Tim Farron's) leadership. Really don't want to vote Conservative.

Wondering perhaps about voting for the Women's Equality Party? They seem pretty good, but are still quite a small party.

What does everyone else think?

Wait for a manifesto and then use that to help decide?

KerryLeanne84 · 18/04/2017 21:41

@Borders (I'm sat next to a border terrier right now!) - Surely you have to vote labour in that case? They're the only party anywhere near strong enough to hold the tories to account and soften brexit - even if the current state of the party is not ideal

Batghee · 18/04/2017 21:42

sorry didnt say what that link was! Its a tactical voting chart of who to vote for if you are not sure who to go for but know that you dont want the Tories.

HPFA · 18/04/2017 21:43

The amount of people saying they plan to vote Lib Dem is insane to me.

It depends where you live. In my constituency the only thing you can do to stop the Tories winning is vote LibDem. If you dislike them so much that you can't bring yourself to do that then obviously that's your choice but the practical result will be that the Tories have one more seat.

howabout · 18/04/2017 21:46

Love your spreadsheet Mix. Unfortunately it really shows how difficult it is for Labour to win a majority without Scotland and I wouldn't trust the Lib/Dems to form any sort of stable coalition with them atm as they seem to be pursuing the longer term goal of replacing them.

MercyMyJewels · 18/04/2017 21:46

Yes you are clearly on a lot of that booze WeeNippy. Hope it irons you out a bit

Thisisouting · 18/04/2017 21:53

Good work on the spreadsheet batghee

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 18/04/2017 22:01

Thanks Batghee :)

I don't like what the Tories are doing to the NHS.
I don't like what they're doing to school budgets.
I don't like what they're doing to disabled people.
I don't like the fact that they're pushing us towards a damaging Hard Brexit.
I will be voting tactically for the candidate in my constituency with the best chance of beating the Tories ... looking likely to be the Lib Dems.

Where we live will always be conservaties no hope in changing it.

MercyMyJewels · 18/04/2017 22:15

Inspired by your name, WeeNippy How very clever.

btw I didn't watch it. I didn't need to

Studyinghell · 18/04/2017 22:15

I've always voted Lab... but can't stand JC, I'm leaning towards lib dem, but hate what they did with the schools fees, also feel this would be a wasted vote, they're not going to win & even if they got in with tory's like last time they wouldn't help much, and then take all the shit for the mess TM is going to cause. 100% won't be TM. I think she's only called this now to take advantage of the state lab are in, and if she waited until 2020 she'd be held accountable for what ever is to happen with brexit and would be out.... she's buying her self time after hard brexit as far as I can see, and stoping lab buying time to get rid of JC and get there shit together.

OwlOfBrown · 18/04/2017 22:23

I'm not sure why Remainers think voting for eg the Libdems will reverse Brexit because the triggering of the A50 is irreversible

Not necessarily. There is nothing in Article 50 that sets this position out one way or another. As I said earlier (on this thread, or maybe another one - I can't remember) both Donald Tusk and the diplomat who wrote Article 50 have said they believe it may be reversible. Theresa May has said it isn't but that doesn't make it so.

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 18/04/2017 22:25

I agree with Owl. As this is the first time ever that article 50 has been triggered, surely it's at the discretion of the EU as to whether it's reversible or not.

Specialsubject - can they just put whatever they like in the manifesto and then it all gets forgotten about once in power?

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 18/04/2017 22:32

That's what the greens did here so probs.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 18/04/2017 22:39

I'll be voting LibDem and hoping there's another Coalition. That will ensure a softer Brexit.

Labour don't sand a chance in hell and I sincerely hope JC resigns on June 9th, though I doubt his ego will let him.

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 18/04/2017 23:08

IfYouGo I'm also hoping for another Coalition. I wonder how likely it is.

Article 50 is revocable. The creator of Art 50 states this and there is a court case running to further prove this. TM doesn't want this to be a well-known fact.

ShatnersWig · 18/04/2017 23:15

Christ. One poll predicts possible Tory majority of 124!

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 18/04/2017 23:19

Shatner Shock could you link to the poll?

Conservative here.

Because they only other local realistic choice is UKIP as borne out by our recent post Brexit by election.
